I'm going to LJ cut this because I'm tired of seeing, thinking about, and dealing with FFXI, so if it's behind a cut at least I won't have to look at it when I check my LJ main page.

Why am I posting if I don't want to see it? Because players who haven't done G3 yet (heck, or have done it) might want to see how it went.

To complete the entire thing (minus the miniquest) took about three hours. Fully half that time was for Castle Oz. Posters on Alla can all go to hell (most claims said they soloed the whole thing, miniquest included, in 30 minutes).

Castle Oz was the worst by far. I mean really, really bad. It wasn't helped by a bad choice I had made (I didn't want a death on DRK, so I went as WHM/BLM. Reports on Alla said others had done that as well (with jobs as low as 10-20) and no problems were mentioned along with it, but that wasn't true: Damned bats aggroed me. Which meant Oz went from "invisible only" to "sneak and invisible"... which is a damned annoying thing in the middle of mobs of mobs which could kill us all. Eventually we gave up on sneaking and Yossy and Ceh just killed all the bats while weakling me stayed invisible.

@whee. Here Ceh and I were duoing it so we'd be useful (with Yossy joining us just for Oz since he needed it as well), and I was so un-useful that I was actually hurting us. Sigh.

Beadeaux: This one was a pain in the ass and took a while just because true sound mobs wouldn't get the hell out of the way. I swear we spent most of our time there just waiting for the damned thing to move. On the plus side: Ceh knew the area really well (her AF had been there), so I just followed her.

Davoi: We did this one last, and it wasn't too bad at all. I knew the route well from doing the miniquest, and moving invisible through an area is tons easier than moving sneaked. There were more NMs to avoid, and I think I got closer to one than I should have, but I was really at the "fuck it all" point and didn't care too much if I was killed and couldn't finish it.

There was only one death that whole time (me), and I still have no idea how it happened. But I got the yag crest before I died, so that was fine. I had intended to HP after that, but I hit the wrong damned button (because I'm an idiot) and reraised instead. In the middle of a crapload of high level yags. Somehow nothing aggroed me (I have no clue how they didn't) and I got invisible back up. As if a death isn't bad enough, there was a crowd there also trying to get the ???/crest. So not only was I stupid for dying, I did it in front of a bunch of people. Bah.

Back when I ran a MUSH, I did tons of stuff that wasn't fun. But never, ever had I done this much annoying stuff in the name of a game. And I won't do it again, either. Luckily there's not that much more annoying stuff ahead of me. Mostly just Maat... "Just" Maat. Ha. I'm so doomed.

*hugs* Don't be down. We did it!

The Castle Oz dying bit was just really rotten luck, and no one is going to think anything less of you for dying there. Trying to get at a ??? point without being spot by what's practically a HNM is veryvery hard. I freaked and cancelled every single buff including reraise when I was trying to get it, so I'm hardly a paragon of calmness. The getting aggro wasn't so much of a problem with the bats, since we could do them okay (alright, my incompetancy with my weapons not withstanding (see: "Yos, um... little help here?")). And you didn't die on DRK! I saw what happened, by the way, a Yagudo turned just as you uninvised I think. Nothing you could have done to prevent it.

*twirls you* We did it! And without being led around by people in the 70s. And you went and did that mini-quest in Davoi, which you didn't have to do for the both of us, for which I am veryvery grateful.

Be proud! We never have to do it again. XD

Ooooh, you have a new icon! It's spiffy!

Trying to get at a ??? point without being spot by what's practically a HNM is veryvery hard.

At least I know I did better than some other people. Xal died a bunch of times trying it, and Sivara took ... well, many many visits even to just find where the ??? was in the room. (And now that I've seen the room, I just utterly boggle at the idea of trying to kill the high priest if you don't clear out every single other yag first. Gah! So many of them! Such a bad area!)

I saw what happened, by the way, a Yagudo turned just as you uninvised I think.

Ah, that makes sense. I was a little bit scatter-brained at that moment. I had had to retreat back to that hallway we fell into to recast reraise, and while I was doing it Yossy (and maybe you?) got the crest and I was worried I'd be left behind. :P It was just a really crazy trip. I can't imagine people doing that as a whole party...

Yes and yes! We did it! Yay! I'm proud that we were able to do it, but I'm very seriously annoyed at the game requiring us to. But at least G4 will be easy as pie! And I'm going to try not to think about Maat yet. ...oops, failing at that. :P

Be proud! We never have to do it again. XD

Thankfully! Yay! Whew! :) And congratulations! :)

Man, I got so lucky with that Oz g3 run. @.@ Ni knew exactly where to go (Me being a silly and not having maps printed since it was a surprise run..), and when we got there all the Yags were having coffee in a corner, leaving the middle totally free of all aggro. @.@

Still, I did about the same thing Cehra did.. freak when I couldn't target the ???, and drop all my buffs trying to cancel inv. 9.9; Davoi and Bea were SOOOOO much easier. u.u I scampered in and did those no trouble. (Aur opened the banishing wall for me. <3)

And without being led around by people in the 70s.

Trust us, none of us would've lead you around, even if you asked. ^^; While Genkai 1 and 2 are mostly group and alliance efforts, I think most of us did 3 either in small groups or solo. (I did Beadeaux solo, Davoi with Auri and D, and Oz with Auri, D, Niala, and Chip). Still, it's great you guys got through okay. :3

I was just making the point that that was what we've gotten pretty much everything done as: the lowbies being hauled around. Never crossed our minds to ask for help with this one.

Meh, always always assume that things aggro.
Sneak/Invis are tres important, esp. if you're MGSing around in a high level dungeon.

I did mine over 3 different days, so I didn't have to spent so fricking long on one quest (it was done as soon as I hit 61 though), but I would estimate about 45-60 minutes each, except Oz which took about 2 hours. I ran into a JP and then 3 others, JP had 2/3 passwords and guessed the last one (from AK's list) with less than 10 minutes game time to the day ;)

I did mine over 3 different days,

While I'm happy to have it all done, I'm suspecting that doing it all in one day was not the best way. If I were to do it over, knowing what I know now, I would do it in reverse order (Orc, Quad, then Yag last) and on different days.

JP had 2/3 passwords and guessed the last one (from AK's list) with less than 10 minutes game time to the day ;)

Hee, cut it so close! That's one thing we really did do right: We didn't even try to get the passwords, I forced it all from a list. We had all three passwords in moments. (There were maybe 10? 12? passwords on the list, and the three correct ones were in the first five.)
