Yay Friday! (HP and FFXI)
Jul. 15th, 2005 10:08 amYay Fridays! Almost the weekend! Woo!
UPS tracking reports that my copy of the new HP book arrived in my hometown this morning. Wish that meant there was a chance in hell of me getting it today, but that's highly unlikely. Or impossible. One of the two. Either way, at least maybe it means I won't get it too late tomorrow.
I'm still very happy I've seen all the spoilers I have. I know all of the big things that are happening in the book, and many/most of the little things. I was sort of "meh" about the new book till I read everything that would be happening!
---
FFXI: Nothing overly exciting happened last night. I did only one round of digging. Every zone I tried -- 5 of them! -- was totally dug up. Even zones that have only crap were empty! Between that and me having no patience for digging (which had started the day before, when I kept hopping off my bird to kill things), meant it would be silly to keep trying.
Silly and deadly.
Many people on the game assume that DRKs can neither hit things (horrible ACC) nor take hits (defense of a wet paper bag!). Neither is true, so long as the DRK in question isn't naked. And of course I don't wear my armor while digging, so jumping off the bird to kill things is stupid. Yet I did it twice. A strong sign that I'm bored of digging.
On a related note, I found that I have a new earring for 58 (read: now)! Assault earring (+5 att, +5 acc... -too much to either def or eva, I forget which). By the time I wear my Hauby (level 59) I'm going to be about -35 EVA. *BOGGLE* I'll be nearly that much +att and more than half that +acc, but so much -eva and -def! Anyway, I had the assault earring on a mule, and only found that it was level 58 while looking for stuff I'd need in my 60s.
Most of the stuff I need in the 60s is in the 65-70 range of levels (the Thick line). So... I have nothing to buy till I get close to that. (I've had my level 59 stuff since I hit level 50 -- way too long to store it!) I'm pondering saving up for some "good but unnecessary" stuff. (Snipers +1? Amemit +1?) I guess the amemit HQ would be more worth it than the sniper HQ. (Amemit NQ = +10 ATT, HQ = +15 ATT. Sniper NQ = +5 ACC, HQ = +7 ACC) I wonder what amemit HQ is currently going for on Midgar. 12 million? 10 million? +15 att sure would be nice...
Edit: No Alla posters from Midgar listed prices, but many other servers reported prices well under a million. Even if we were double that, could the price be only 2 million? Sheesh! If so, I'll pick up one tonight! (Or maybe wait till after the next new moon, since more would be on the market then...)

Date: 2005-07-15 05:44 pm (UTC)I /totally/ know you're not a LOLDRK. And I'll always stick up for you. Sadly, I've met a metric fuckload of the other sort. And that makes me sad.
What is really vexing is that so many people get 'this is the best and only way' stuck in their head and that makes it hard for other folks. Like the morons that think that a BST will screw up their XP, or that a RDM/MNK is not effective, or that More_RGRs=More_Bestester. Just sad.

Date: 2005-07-15 05:52 pm (UTC)I never liked the whole "lol(job)" phrase. It's the person who sucks, not the job. To me, "lol(job)" makes it sound like the job is at fault or is somehow lacking.
Yes, a lot of sucky people play DRK, but that does not mean that DRK is a sucky job.
I know you're not saying that the whole job sucks, I'm just ranting at people who say "all DRKs can't hit" or "no DRK can take a hit". *snug*

Heehee, you didn't! No worries! I know you wouldn't do such a thing. :)

Date: 2005-07-15 06:18 pm (UTC)With the exception of the ones in the LS I admit I don't much care for RGRs very much. It annoys me to have them lurking about like pirahna waiting to pounce on whatever I want to farm. :)
Yes. I'm being unfair. I know that they aren't all like that. That doesn't change how it feels. :) I guess it stems from my dislike of competition in an RPG coupled with their unfair advantage of having widescan. :)

Date: 2005-07-15 08:32 pm (UTC)(Just thinking out loud.) I wonder if that's true, or if some jobs (DRK, RNG, etc) just let the idiotness shine through better? I suppose it would make sense that the e-penis teenage boys would be attracted to the higher DD jobs... but to me, DRK never seemed like it would be considered... "glorious" to Joe Teenager. Though I suppose I'm looking at it the wrong way; I guess it's the perfect Linkin Park job.

I know. :) Some jobs have such big advantages over others though! How can you get to a mob first when racing a THF with flee? Or how can you find it before a ranger with widescan?

(Fucktard Tackle) All Races
Anything 'l337' or 'kewl' or 'uber' that relates to dealing damage, being angsty or otherwise appears to give some advantage (whether or not it does).
Lv.1 DRK/RGR
Yup. :) Some class abilities are definitely a bigger help than others, especially in my specific example of farming, which has always been a big part of my gil making. :) Oh well. I guess I'll just get THF up to 15 for treasure hunter, garden my ass off, save as many gil as possible and then up my crafts for steady money makers. Farming is probably just out of the question.

Date: 2005-07-15 09:13 pm (UTC)Did I tell you I gave Merlee a gift last night? A newt! Seems like just the thing a cat would like, huh? She could bat it around, then once it was dead she could eat it! Heeheehee.
Out of all the ways to make money, I think I like farming best. It's not the best money (by far), but I enjoy it the most so I try to keep it in the money-making rotation. So keep that in mind, too! You need to try to have some fun while making money. :)

Date: 2005-07-15 09:33 pm (UTC)Ooh! A newt? (I got better!). [/obscure_monty_python_reference]. Coolness. We totally need to get her to make an LJ account. :) I bet she'd have fun. :)
Farming is far more engaging than, say, sitting in the MH and synthing, that's for sure. I realy wish that silk wasn't so hard to farm sometimes. There's only a couple of places I can have a decent chance of getting crawlers, and only at low levels...not that I have anything to a high level!
Do the crawlers in Crawler's Nest drop more silk?
I'm fairly tempted to ask folks if they want to help camping some monster with a good drop like Jaggedy Eared Jack or something and split the gil. Not sure it is worth the effort though.

You really, really should look into farming other stuff as well. Everyone wants to farm silk! :) As far as I have experienced, CN does not have a better drop. I find the best drop rate in the Windy newbie zone.

I strongly suspect it's not worth it, but I've not tried it so I could be wrong! :)
