Bouncie, bouncie. Hopefully writing all this will settle me down some. :) A little RL, then all FFXI.

I spend most of Saturday sick, which wasn't fun at all. One of those 'nose endlessly running' things, which by noon made it very painful to blow/wipe it at all, which of course I still had to do. Then, very oddly, it transformed into some stomach thing, and I spent most of Saturday night/Sunday morning fighting the need to throw up. *boggle* Whatever odd bug I had, by Sunday afternoon I was feeling mostly better. Tired, but better.

Oh! I did catch Stargate: Atlantis finally. I've loved SG1 for ages, so I've been meaning to try the new series, but now that so much of my flist is into it I had all the more reason to hunt it down. Though I didn't know most of the characters, I still enjoyed the ep a lot. Must remember to set Tivo to record it.

FFXI: Friday and Saturday were mostly uneventful, I think. Worked on making money. If anything big happened (might have friday? Didn't Saturday, I'm pretty sure) I forgot it.

Sunday started out slow, then stuff happened, then good stuff happened, then better stuff happened. :P

First, about an hour or so before static time, some LS folks needed a rescue (tractor/raise) in Promy Holla. It's so nice how many people jump to help in situations like that! Even though many of us were naked or nearly naked (thanks Niala!), two parties of us went up to the top to help the folks who needed it.

So static started late and we were a member short (*snugs to Draque*), so we basically just got everyone to 60. Not a big accomplishment really, as we were all really close (I was 2K away, but ended up with a buffer! Yay! Weeks with buffers are nice!). However! We stayed for a few more kills after everyone dinged 60 to get folks (read: slow me) their 200 level WS! Silly scythe is so slow I was the last by far, but it was worth it! Guillotine is so so so cool! Gah! *drool*

Note to anyone reading it: There are no issues at all with stacking Guillotine and Souleater (why can't I stop typing that as 'Soupeater'?). It counts as only one hit, not 4-5 removals of 10% of your HP. So: Yay! (or: Boo!) I can't kill myself with it!

After static we all (other than Draque) posted for a group picture in our full AFs! Just like a school photo... eh, a school where everyone carries weapons? Non-players: From left to right is Thief (Kawaru), Dark Knight (me), White Mage (Cehra), and Monk (Eadwyn), with Ninja (Ashn) in front. Even though it's not quite as clear, I like this picture better -- look how the light from my 2hr (Blood Weapon) reflects off my armor! Isn't that pretty angsty?

So even at this point of the night, I was sort of "meh" over the whole weekend. I thought my LJ post would be boring. I was bored. Someone had put Thick pants +1 up for auction. Last price was 1 million, and I couldn't get them for 1,300,000, so I was mad and depressed. I decided to /tell the chick with the Hauberk +1 in her bazaar for 14M and see if I could get her to take under 11M. (I had 10.6M total.) I didn't think she'd go for it, but I was depressed and wanted something to show for the weekend. The item wasn't in my auto-translator, so I hit the AH to add it in. The one Hauberk +1 that had been up for days was still there, so on a whim I tried the 'bid all the cash you have and pray' tactic. I had tried it before and had nearly no more money now than then, so I didn't have much hope. But...

Woo woo! I almost fell out of my chair! Then this made me almost fall down again. :P

Ha...ha...ha. Gah. But yay! I got the armor! Woo! I gathered the money off my mules and ended up with a few thousand, so I'm not totally broke... just have less money than I've had since I started the game.

Note to those who were following my Hauby +1 saga: I had said the last sale was for 15M, but somehow I had missed that it was someone selling it to himself. No clue how I missed that... The last real sale was over a year ago and for quite a bit less than 10M (4.8M), but... more than a year ago. How in the world can you set a valid price from that? I was expecting to pay 12-15M for it, so I'm seriously not unhappy with 10.6M. Very very poor, but not unhappy at all. :) Very happy, in fact! Very, very happy!

So then, with so so so little money, I set out to farm like a madman. And how do you like that, I ran into a fire ele for the first time! I never ever got to kill one of those before! And it dropped two clusters! Yay!

So by that point in the night I was already bouncing, then I noticed something really odd. A cluster of six or seven yagudo. Even if they had been standing at a campfire that would have been a lot of them, but they were just standing around in the open. Then I saw a NM in the middle of them! Eeeee! I love killing NMs! (Not just for their drops, but just so I can say I did!) Coo Keja the Unseen didn't live up to his name (to quote Boose). It wouldn't have been a challenging fight if there hadn't been all those other yags kicking my ass while I was beating him. But luckily my 2hr had cooled down and I was able to use that to keep alive. (There were so many of them hitting me that I couldn't get a drain fired off.) He dropped a necklace that is actually pretty spiffy! Not something I'd wear for XPing my main job, but great for capped or leveling a lower level melee job!

So a mostly boring weekend ended with a really, really great night. I'm so happy I got my Hauberk, and having so little money gives me a real drive to farm and such, so I can make enough to buy the rest of the stuff I need. And that I got a NM! And learning Guillotine! Oh, and one last really good thing:

How did I forget? On Saturday, Merlee spotted a yagudo hat in a bazaar for 260K. As one hide costs 200K and a cloth cost... 100K? 80K? and there are a ton of other things needed, it was a good value, so she grabbed it. Then she decided she didn't want it, so I bought it from her! (I forced her to take 300K for it -- finder's fee!) I actually wanted the yag hat almost more than the Hauby +1, so I got the two things I wanted most in one weekend! Eeee!

Now we just have to hit 61 next weekend so I can wear it! Yay!

...okay, writing about all this did not make me any more sleepy. :P

Actually, money invested in equipment and items is far more valuable than raw gil, due to inflation^^ So, 0 gil isn't bad at all since you made out with that pretty piece of equpment. :)

Except if you buy things when they're first introduced and get shafted by the subsequent deflation >>;

But GJ on the Hauberk! I don't think that +1 is gonna go down any time soon ;)

Thanks! And yeah, it's not going to go down. (Eh, unless SE messes something up...) The last real price on the HQ (from a year ago) is now the NQ price, so it's rising fast! And I'll be using it forever, so... yay!

Yeah. The last real price for that armor (4.8M) is now the price of the NQ form of it, so if I had bought it a year ago I would have made a ton of money! And I'll make the gil back eventually, so that'll be fine, too. :) Yay!

I'm so glad to be back in the static with you guys! I just need to gain the will to farm again. You have your vanity piece, now I need to go get mine. ^^

And we're so so so glad to have you! You better schedule your classes next semester around static so we don't lose you again! ;) And spend all your gil on something, that'll give you a great reason to farm more. :P *loves on coeurls* Such pretty little sacks of money.

I think most of the first season of Atlantis is relatively easy to download from any well-populated torrent source.

And, hee, it really is a wonderful show for fans who like sf, snark, and subtext. That there are many really great fanfiction authors writing in the fandom doesn't hurt at all. (I've been mainlining fanfic for weeks and still come across amazing stuff posted months ago. It's almost as giddy-making as when I started watching Smallville.)

Yes, I must download it all and catch up! Yay!

That there are many really great fanfiction authors writing in the fandom doesn't hurt at all.

Exactly. Seems like all my favorite HP writers are shifting to it, so all the more reason to follow them!

Hauberk is lvl 69.. >.> Maybe that was a mistype? I don't know what lvl you really are.

Thistle has a big old habit of buying things /early/. >_>/ He is level 60, but he wants that hauberk rotting sitting in his safe for future use. Can't blame him in that, though. :3

Heehee, yeah. I like having things before I'll need them, but this is a bit further ahead than I'd usually get something... Especially since the levels will take longer now.

Must Level Faster! ;)

*bouncies*

Well, hey, if you waited until you were close to lv69 it'd probably cost more. Also, whoa, a NM Yagudo in Meriphataud? I didn't think they existed over there. Congrats on finding/killing it. XD

From: [identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com
I'd be surprised if one were even available, let alone costing lots more! They seem very, very rare. *snugs it more*

And thanks! I believe the NM is one of the new ones. It was lots of fun killing him!

I just hit 60, and yeah it's 69. I like to have things on hand before I hit the level I'll need it at. Just, um, not usually this far ahead. :P

Okay, I see the prices on that game, and it kind of reminds me of a million years of pain. 10,000,000+ for an item??

In WOW, if something goes for 100-300g, people consider that very expensive! I guess if all the money in FFXI is one unit (gil) then it makes a wee bit more sense, but still. Ouch.

I can't even imagine how much grinding it takes to make that much.

Date: 2005-08-08 04:19 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com
Ha ha, yes. 10M gil is very much like a million years of pain. :P

I don't think most folks would ever consider spending 10M on an item. Even just 1M is seriously, seriously expensive.

But I'm a little insane and everyone knows that, so people aren't too surprised that I do this sort of thing.

I can't even imagine how much grinding it takes to make that much.

Don't ask me why, but for me FFXI is sort of another job. Really, it makes no sense, but that's how it is for me. And yeah, I still mostly like it. I spend 6-ish hours a weekday and maybe 30 or so hours over the weekend just making money. (See that 'insane' comment above. Very few people do what I do.)

hurray Hauby +1 :D

at least you didn't have to continue farming for another 3 millions :P

Yep! ...though now if I want the Thick +1 pieces, I'll need more than 3 million more. :P

Punishment? {Yes, please!}

The rescue mission was the coolest thing I ever saw. :) It was so nice for peeps to drop what they were doing, rally, and charge up a VERY dangerous and level capped tower to rescue folks. That just..wow. It really made the night for me.

Thanks again to everyone that came! :)

As to spending that much gil on /anything/? I think you're nuts. :) But you knew that already. And hey, Merlee spent THIRTEEN million on her Noble's Tunic, so there you go.

It amuses me that you two collectively spent like twenty five times my net worth if I were to get back every gil I've spent in game. :) On two items. One each. :)

From: [identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com
Ha ha, yes, the timing amused me, too. She got hers just a few minutes after I got mine! And yes, I'm highly insane. Happy, but insane. :)

And I'm so glad we were able to come help, even if the final results weren't as good. *snugs lots!*
