Adobe Premier Pro help

Since we have so much downtime today, I figured I'd go back to beating my head against the video I've been trying to make (of the CoP 4-2 dragon fight).

I fixed the first big problem (thanks Sylf! It was that size thing), but the second problem has me lost. I've searched through Google, I downloaded the latest version of Quicktime (because one site said it was required to hear sound in Premier o.O ) but still nothing working -- no sound at all.

My speakers are on. I can play the MP3 outside of Premier just fine. I import the file into the project window, drag it down to the timeline (audio track 1), then try listening to it up there in the monitor window. The little bar thing makes progress through the file, but there's no sound at all.

Sound is enabled. I've tried all the different audio settings on the playback window.

Am I missing something? I'm still in the 30 day trial period (I don't have an activation code yet, I'll deal with that if I can get this issue fixed), but you're supposed to be able to fully use the tool in the first 30 days...

Anyone have any ideas?

Do you know what bitrate your audio is encoded in? I'm wondering if the .mp3 doesn't match up with what Adobe is expecting and not playing it because of that.

Here are the settings I use when initializing a project. I got these from Niala's help and a link I'll post later.

On the NEW PROJECT screen where you choose a directory to save your project, hit the *Custom Settings* tab and set everything to the following:

GENERAL
-Editing Mode: Video for Windows
-Timebase: 30 fps

VIDEO
-Frame Size: (whatever it is that your raw video is - you've probably got this part set up fine :)
-Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square Pixels (1.0)
-Fields: Lower Field First
-Display Format: 30 fps Timecode
-Title Safe Area: 20% horiz, 20% vert
-Action Safe Area: 10% horiz, 10% vert
-Scale Clips to Project Dimensions? YES

AUDIO
-Sample Rate: 44100Hz
-Display Format: Audio Samples

Then hit SAVE PRESET and save the settings, so you can use them for video encoding each time - I don't think you'll have to ever change them again.

Most .mp3 audio is 44100Hz or below, depending on how it's ripped from a CD. So, we set that as the encoding parameter. If the audio quality is below that setting it's usually fine. *But*, if the setting is lower and the audio quality is higher, the computer may not know what to do with it or something. That's my only real guess... so try that?

Also, here's that link waaaaaaay back that I was going to give you but forgot. Niala gave me this (http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/avtech/) link to use as a guide for making videos. If there's something that you get hung up on during the encoding process, you can probably find the solution here. :)

Huh! I was about to give up, then as a last bit of troubleshooting I tried a different MP3... and that one worked!

Thank you for all the information, and sorry to have made you post it for no reason. :P Now I have to see if I can find a new copy of the song I want to use.

You could just change the bitrate on the copy you have now, reencode it, eh?

Eh... could I? :P I've never changed the bitrate on anything, nor have I reencoded stuff before! But now I have a working version of the song, so that part is fixed.
