Go on, stick your head in the sand...
Aug. 17th, 2005 03:00 pmReading the news makes me grumpy. Quote:
ICANN Delays .xxx Top-Level Domain: A government agency has put a one-month delay into the process of approval for a new ".xxx" top-level domain, citing overwhelming public opposition to a porn-only section of the Internet.
The Commerce Department received nearly 6,000 letters and e-mails about the domain, noted Michael Gallagher, assistant secretary for communications and information.
(End quote.)
How many things are wrong with this picture? I hardly know where to begin! "overwhelming public opposition" + "6,000 letters and e-mails" = BUH. Perhaps they meant "of the 6,000 mails/emails received, the overwhelming majority were against the idea". The two statements are NOT the same!
But my bigger issue is... WTF? Do these people against the idea think that by blocking .xxx domain names they'll keep sex off the Internet? Sorry to inform you folks, but you're a bit late on that attempt. If anything, having porn sites use .xxx would make it easier for parents to block access! These people should want .xxx domain names. If they were smart, they would be demanding that all porn sites have .xxx names.
Oh wait, my bad. I'm expecting logic from these people...

Date: 2005-08-18 12:28 am (UTC)Seriously. It would never happen, but you'd think if they're gullible enough to think that the .xxx TLD would make porn's presence on the internet any larger than it already is, some marketing might be enough to convince them that all porn would be shunted to .xxx sites and so there would be no further danger of their pweshus angles being exposed to the horrors of naked people.

This part alone makes me feel sad ;_; In the pants!
Must be lies! Massive Public Opposition to Porn (Massive P.O.P. ^^ Bwahaha~). Yeah, makes little sense. Like Braille on a drive-in ATM machine. MARVEL AT OUR INEFFICIENCY :-D

Date: 2005-08-18 05:14 am (UTC)Exactly. People who wanted that kind of porn could more easily find it, and people who wanted to avoid it would know not to go to any .xxx sites. What are they going to do now? Filter all .com sites? :P
