Gah! Rarrr! Woo! And other happy noises!
Sep. 6th, 2005 08:54 pmFFXI only. And sorry if this post is a little uncut-graphics heavy, the total image weight should still be less than an uncut quiz. And yes, I never leave quizzes uncut, so I get an exception this one time, right? :D
*bouncie*bouncie*bouncie* Funny how sometimes something that starts out as nothing big turns out to be great. Zubis needed to test an item for an upcoming hard mission, so he rented the PvP area and had Yossy and I come in and cast on him. (Non-players: Unlike WoW, PvP (player vs player) is a very, very, very minor part of the game. For most people, it doesn't even exist. Usually it's just players vs. game-run NPCs and monsters and stuff.)
The tests only lasted a short time, and since Zubis had plenty of time left on the rental, we killed each other! The results were HIGHLY surprising.
Level 60 cap. Zubis (PLD), Yossy (RDM), and me (DRK). Going into it, I would have said I would easily kick the PLD's ass, but the RDM would eat us both for lunch. I was about as wrong as wrong could be.
Be sure to read this paragraph! Don't just look at the pictures! Before I go further: So that no one thinks less of anyone involved, Yossy did not play as hard as he could have. He could have bound us and then nuked us from afar, and against that both Zub and I would have had no defense. Both Zub and Yossy rocked, and no matter the outcomes I had a great time each match! And I learned a ton, too!
Oh, I had wanted to write this post before I forgot all the outcomes, but editing the pictures took a while. Bah. Correct me if I'm wrong, guys. I think (in one-on-ones) RDM Yossy beat PLD Zub every time? But PLD Zub totally kicked my ass (it wasn't even close).
Yossy vs Zubis! WSs Awaaaayyyy! (Man, don't they look good fighting? So exciting! I was bouncing in my seat while watching!)
The two-on-one matches went as expected: Whoever the "one" was, lost.

But then we went back to singles again! And it was about then that we learned why poor DRKs get taken out really early on in PvP matches.
Yossy gets a face full of Mr. Guillotine and death.
And again:

And again:

Then Zubis got some guillotine love:

Then we did a couple more two-on-one matches before we ran out of time. So much fun!
As Yossy pointed out, the trick of beating a DRK (if you're not going to bind and nuke from a distance) is to keep them from getting TP. I spent nearly all of each match blind and paralyzed, and usually slowed as well, so that wasn't enough. Sleep? Or just nuke fast. Though I suppose most fights wouldn't be one-on-one. DRKs really should be silenced at all times, too. (I was silenced probably 80% of the tme, but could cast long enough to drain/aspir my way back to good enough health. My drain is surprisingly strong.)
And lastly, I got a really, really nice screenshot of Zubis! Burn the holy man at a stake?
So much love to Zubis for renting the place and asking for my help, and to Yossy who was a really good sport about letting me guillotine him repeatedly. :)
Oh, and note to self: Probably leave the sniper's rings at home next time. And thank god I didn't listen to the little voice in my head that said "You're just helping him to test Stun, why do you need to bring armor?" :D :D :D :D
Best night I've had in FFXI in a long, long time!

Heeheehee! I know he killed me at least once (our first match) and I'm not sure if he killed me a second time, but either way it was fun!
And yes, that shot of Zub is totally drolly! Mmmm.

Date: 2005-09-07 01:45 pm (UTC)Maybe we should organize an LS one sometime. (I can't go any higher than 40 cap, but I actually have multiple jobs I could choose!) I'm sure you could come up with some interesting team names. ;p

I'm really curious about how a lot of those fights would go. My biggest problem was speed (took me twice as long to get TP as sword-using Zub and Yossy). I suspect I'd be doomed against a MNK, but I'm really curious how I'd do against other jobs!
RNG would be really interesting, at least in a party PvP situation. If the teammates would use provoke and bind to keep the other team away from the RNG, they'd do really well. Solo vs a RNG would be a lot more interesting.

But seriously, yes. I love how it makes you think and adjust on the fly. The first time we did a Yossy and Zub vs Thistle match, I tried to use flee to get away from them (I figured I could find somewhere to hide and then SA one from behind -- not a great chance for success but better than just standing there), but Yossy cast bind onto me so I had to adjust. Then I tried to kill Yossy (since he's both the weaker DEF and the stronger DD of the two), but darned Zub kept provoking me! :D
