thistlechaser: (Super Ninjas! (Naruto))
[personal profile] thistlechaser
I'm really looking forward to seeing CN's dubbing of Naruto tonight, even though everyone who has seen it already has been left laughing or crying at how bad it is. Even if the voices are awful, I want to see the early storylines again without having to watch the dubs (which I cannot do with FFXI running). Or so I say now, hopefully it won't be so bad that I take it back!

Edit: Ha ha, I've been writing this post so long that now Naruto is starting! Hmm. The opening song left me bogging, but Naruto's voice isn't as bad as it could be. Hm. My expectation were set so low I actually don't mind this so far. (We're only up to the first commercial break though.) I'm surprised, usually I hate dubbing. Maybe my standards have fallen from watching so many of them. :P Back from commercial break. Ugh, Naruto's voice is really rather hard on the ear, isn't it?

Voices aside, I so love the storyline! I really should watch the subbed eps again.

Edit again: Naruto's voice sounds just like Zatch's in Zatch Bell. Wonder if it's the same VA or if it's just that woman-doing-a-boy's-voice thing. ...oh, eeee! They did the "ultra sad music" in the first ep! The Zabuza/Haku's death music! Huh, I had no idea we heard it before then... Man, even so so so long after that storyline, this music makes me want to cry.

As has been usual for FFXI lately, the game is full of nothing, but the people make it worth it. The entire LS empties every Saturday night as most everyone goes to Dynamis, leaving only [livejournal.com profile] yohshee, [livejournal.com profile] zubis, myself, and sometimes a couple other random people around (yay [livejournal.com profile] pomr was there this week!). But it's actually quite fun having such a little group. We fool around (ha ha, I mean joke around! Of course! :P ) so much, I spend the night giggling endlessly. It was easily the best part of the day. :D

But other than that, the day was empty and boring. I spent 4 hours doing a worthless quest (I don't need the fame and lost money each time I repeated it), then tried to farm gigas in the Meadows (but they were too hard, so I had to leave after spending all the time getting ready and getting there), then went to farm gigas in Delkfutt's Tower, but they didn't drop socks at all for me. But to be fair, I only killed a couple before giving up.

On the way out I spotted Trickster Kinetix, so I grabbed him! Yay! I got the drop, but it was only worth 6K.

Oddly, one person made up most of the buying history. They must be desynth'able or something...

Then finally, to make my time-wasting, losing-money, accomplishing-nothing day complete, I went chocobo digging. I broke even on some runs and lost money on others. But hey, usually I lose money on most runs, so I was ahead of the game! 9.9 <-- Rolling eyes face! Draque made it up! (Or brought it to the LS, one or the other.)

---

Since there's nothing much for me to do in FFXI land, yesterday I started a new game of FFX! I've not played it in, what, a year? two years? so I've forgotten a ton and it's so much fun to re-play! I must have been really affected by fan-stuff before playing the game, because otherwise I have no idea how I could have liked Jecht early on. He comes off as such an ass! A sexy ass, but an ass nonetheless. It's so cool having voice acting in a game, I wish FFXI had it. I'm not far into the game yet, just about 4 hours and that, um, port city. Port Ki... something or other. The first place after Besaid. (Which is another thing FFXI really needs! Swimming! <3 Tidus! )

---

Look, back to FFXI! Fooled ya! Zubis and Beanie and Yossy and Nif and company beat CoP 6-4 today! Woo woo! I really wonder if our CoP static will be able to do the same. :/ NOT NOT NOT because we suck (we don't! You all rock!) but because the very best of our LS had such a hard time with it, I know we'll have at least as much trouble. I worry a lot about how I will do in the fight. Zub mentioned an AoE attack with bad damage, and I worry about my "wet paperbag" DEF. :/ I'm sort of semi-thinking about leveling WAR for a different subjob (it'd give me more DEF and maybe more HP?), but... I've played DRK with /THF since day one, I'd be worried about not being used to the different skills. My darned Hauby has -20 EVA on it, which could be painful...

Do we really need Sea access? :P

Jecht isn't remotely likeable until the second half of the game when you start seeing how he changed during Braska's pilgrimage. He IS an ass, a drunkard, and a total jerk. :) You really get to see how he changed on the Jecht's spheres that are scattered around. I couldn't care less about him until after the second time I played through when I was really looking for the little details of the background. Once they clean him up and he decides to fight for Spira he turns into being a LOT more like Tidus. (Or maybe Tidus is an echo of what Jecht was before all the fame and shit.)

Yeah. I have to strongly resist checking my old saved games so I can look at all the spheres CSs. Woo, can't wait to get to them!

Oh, but adding to it: I can -kinna- see where he's trying to be a good Dad, even if he fails miserably. Like how he tells Tidus he can't do the Jecht Shot, but not to worry, because no one else can either. Tidus took it as an insult, but I think it was his crude assholish way of trying to comfort and just came out wrong.

And then, there's just times when he's an insensitive ass with no way I can argue in his favor. XD But Jecht is flawed and that's why we love him so much. *_*

.... I don't have a Jecht icon. I suck so much. ; ;

Flawed characters are the best! And I also try to keep in mind that we're seeing Jecht through Tidus's eyes, which isn't exactly the most neutral view of the situation.

Hee~ I actually thought dub Naruto was pretty decent. Iruka though...just thinking about it makes me laugh again. xD Also, I totally want to rewatch the series now and I don't have time for that at all, so wah.

Yes! I very much want to watch the whole thing again, but man, not a chance of that. :/ So it's a good thing that the dubbing isn't so bad I can't watch it. I can re-watch the series this way!

I wonder if/when we'll get PoT over here. Now THAT would be something! :P

Date: 2005-09-11 05:03 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] morinotokei.livejournal.com
I might just do that too, if I can only remember to watch it every week.

You know, I'm not sure that'll ever come here, because I don't know that there would be interest in that type of series. Oh man, if it did though, I would probably die of laughter from the dubs. xD

<3 Tivo. Set it to record things for you, and it changes the channel at that time to do so. Even if you don't need the program recorded, it's a reminder that the show is on! A strong reminder, since it changes the channel to it. :D

And yeah, I suspect it wouldn't fly over here, but it sure would be amusing!

I don't much see the point of CoP, not because I think its stupid, but because of the prices some people have paid and the frustration. I doubt I'll ever get it, and I don't have much need for it. I also get frutrated easy. :p

Boy, that's a nice icon! Did Aurian make it?

And yeah, I wonder about the cost/RL stress vs what you win by finishing it...

Yeah, its Aurians work. <3 her for it. I love the way she put in my natural abilities with an axe and a thought motion. And the star background it great, she I want to see more of her work.

I know some people think we're insane... but I also think it'll be easier for you guys. It'll be easier 'cause we can help you avoid the mistakes we made. All we've had to work off of are lolAlla posts and we couldn't speak with the original posts to learn more about the fights. D asked me to write down all I could about our fights today. I asked QQ and Nyiri to look over what I wrote and add their bits... so when you guys get there it's better fleshed out and little details aren't lost. And, we might get 'lucky' and they'll adjust it some in the October update [shrugs]

One thing I can tell you, it's not in SE's interest to have a while Region be completely inaccessable by all but 5% of the server population. That's not going to help with player retention. They adjusted to Promies *a lot* over the course of time, I would expect the same here.

As for skill / jobs... You guys have one thing that I think is a true benefit that having the "right" combo of jobs can't replace: chemistry. Knowing the people you're doing it with, *really* knowing them, helps so very much. Being able to anticipate what they're going to do without ever saying it or having to ask. You can't get that with a random party. It might not even be possible completely with just a group of LS friends. It takes hours and hours of working together to build that. It's an irreplaceable thing. Yay teamwork :)

It was probably hard for us because of our setup. I've heard stories of NIN tanks having no trouble at all with it, so it might not be impossible to find a random party from the shells. n.n

Date: 2005-09-11 04:33 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] gbeans.livejournal.com
Aye, us being stubborn on job choices made it a bit rougher, but that was the right thing to do. PLD can definitely tank these bosses. (Though I'm curious how NIN doesn't get it's tail handed to them with the bosses go Hundred Fist at the end. I suspect they eat their licks too when that happens.)

[pokes] What I meant (though people can and will take it however they want) is that some shellmates are closer than others. Two people in the same shell who aren't especially close still might not have the chemistry. But I think everyone has friends they work well with and that they can succeed with.

I get what you mean. I hear 'you really need a static to do this' so often, though, I can't help but feel a little jealous.

I think it'll become less that way as more people get through it. Doing the Promy's used to be that way until SE adjusted the difficulty and more people got through it. They gained experience on *how* to do it and it got easier. Now you can more or less grab people and do it (assuming they're aren't fumbled up by random nitwits who can't follow the tail. I love our shell for it's ability to follow directions. We really are the envy of some HNMLS because of that ^^ )

I was thinking that the other night, too. We "raise" our members right; I wish more LSs did that.

From: [identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com
I wouldn't call it "insane", I think you guys worked really hard (too hard!) and that any fault is S-E's. And yeah, I'm strongly hoping that they adjust it to make it easier; that'd be so sad for you guys, but it'd keep many more people from slitting their wrists over it.

Woo woo woo! Thanks for writing the stuff up! I'm sure our CoP group will memorize it long before we even need it. :)

And yeah, I love love love our CoP group! It's so helpful that we know each other so well. I'll almost (ALMOST) be sad when we finish CoP because then we won't have something to work together on.

From: [identity profile] gbeans.livejournal.com
It's alright. Did Promy when it was at its "hardest" too ^^; Personally, I'd *much* rather they adjust difficulty and make areas more accessible than be an elitist dickwagging whiner about how others got a "free ride". Especially since I know they're not selling Airship passes to Sea. No matter how they change it, it's still going to be a lot of work, time, and gil to get there and people there would have earned it.

I'm glad everyone from our group is noting things down. As I said to Cehra, the more experience and knowledge we accumulate will only make it easier for us :3

And there's always ENMs and organ farming if you want to keep meeting after you reach your goals :3 (Organ farming is awesome because you actually *gain* XP from it instead of *lose* XP. And it's more than, like, 5xp. With the mobs we were killing yesterday in alliance of 12 we were getting 50~ XP each. (Depending on mob, of course, the widdle dolphins were DC and didn't give much :3 ))

Yes! I've been reading all the write-ups, very handy!

Organ farming is awesome because you actually *gain* XP from it instead of *lose* XP.

*poke*poke* You need to do more of that "gaining instead of losing XP" thing. :D

The whole 'all dubs are bad!' mindset is a silly one to have nowadays. It's a relic from the early days of dubbed anime when the actors were wooden and there wasn't as much attention to detail. Nowadays I find the majority of dubs are very watchable (Jon prefers dubs so we alternate what form we watch.), and many are great!

We both tried to get into the Naruto manga when it started in Shounen Jump over here a couple of years back, but just couldn't. So we decided to watch the CN airing tonight to give the series another try, and found we enjoyed it. I've always had a special place in my heart for foxes/fox demons anyway so I knew I'd probably at least like Naruto himself a bit. I laughed pretty hard when he made that lousy clone of himself in the first ep. :)

I really think they'll make 6.4 easier before the next expansion, so you might not have to worry too much. *-* I think Nyiri said it best, though, when she said the euphoria from winning trumps the frustration.
