Sure it's after bedtime, but once more I'm pissed instead of sleepy. (And no one better blame themselves for this. I'm an adult, I could have refused to go. So hush.)

A third person was needed for the Creeping Doom BCNM, and though I'm a DRK and not the recommended BLM, I was asked to go. I have zero faith in getting much of anything from BCNMs, but I know that the person asking had been wanting to do this and I had plenty of seals, so I agreed. (I'm wording this as carefully as I can. Again, I blame no one but myself. I could have said no. No one should try to take the blame for this. Edit: I'm rereading this over and over. I hope it doesn't sound like I'm blaming anyone. I'm mad at the BC and myself, not anyone else. Seriously and honestly! So no one better feel bad!)

First run: We timed out. The darned mob had no MP left, but we couldn't finish nuking it before the clock ran down.

Second run: Beat it, but got crap drops. Worked out to about 7K per person. (Hardly covering the food and drinks used, ignoring the value of the time invested.)

Third run: Damned BCNM lived up to its name, and we were doomed. One mage died, then the other died. I started meleeing, because that's what DRKs do. I successfully hit my 2hr macro for once, but that wasn't nearly enough to beat it when the damned thing had the MP to still cast Cure III on itself.

How in the hell was me, with my "wet paperbag defense", supposed to deal with this? Slowed, paralyzed, and using the slowest weapon on the game:



My second death in two days, when I usually go so long with no deaths. I'm losing XP on DRK, and we're not going to be gaining XP for another month. I got (another) R3 from Merlee so I didn't lose that much, but I still want to cry.

As good of a screenshot as you can get of me meleeing Bitoso, when I'm in the most butt-ugly armor ever invented.

I know LS people will laugh at this (because I used to wear subligar all the time), but dammit, I can't stand doing it anymore! I looked ugly! I've gotten used to looking so good in my DRK AF and yag hat, it was horrible seeing myself looking so bad. :( (Oh ho ho, can we get any shallower?)

To be fair, the night before this was totally opposite: The LS was the funniest it's been in a long, long time. Yossy in Zubis's collar (*purrrr!*)! Caboose wanting endless hugs! "Friendly orgies" in Merlee's bed! I laughed out loud so much. :) I love you guys, and I'm so happy we can have so much fun when the "adults" are all off doing other stuff. :)

5 runs with no good drops at all, although we have near perfected the BLMx3 setup.
Were you using only aspir or sleep bolts as well? I think the typical melee setup is to sleep/drain bolt him to death.

BTW, in a recent patch, the amount of EXP you lose is calculated from your level at the time of the death. In this case, you lose EXP as a lvl 30 DRK, not 60+.

We were doing sleep/aspir. Honestly I hadn't even thought of bolts, though they would have been a great idea. (I like knowing these things ahead of time so I can read up and plan, but I got tapped on the shoulder and ran right off to help. :/ )

Hee, I know that'll be different then and that death is common. Part of my being annoyed at this situation is that both deaths have been preventable, but the larger part is that I'm not going to be making the XP back anytime soon -- not only have we not made any progress on our main jobs for so long (and for so much longer), I've started moving backwards.

I might go solo some EPs or something to try to regain the ground...

Random parties at your level -usually- aren't as bad as loldunes stuff. Besides, I thought you were on the leading edge of your static anyway?

And there's always Escort. ;3 Escort+Eco will make up for those deaths easy.

Actually, I'd love to random party DRK at the moment (I'm getting rusty!), but it wouldn't be fair to the random party if I was only going to stay for ... um, I have no idea how much XP I lost. 1K or so? If I die more, or if it was a bunch of Dyn-whatever deaths, I'd happily random party! I want to play DRK, no matter what the situation! :)

Yeah, I was thinking that, too. I've been doing nothing with that XP other than sticking it onto THF, but I need only one more level of THF ever, so I really could drop some onto DRK.

Nope! I'm somewhere in the middle. I was "back of the middle" till we got all that XP while eye farming, then I moved to "front of the middle", but there were still two or three people ahead of me. Ashn was one of them though, so who knows what the new order will look like. Kawaru is like almost a whole level ahead of us all. Ashn had been just behind him. Ead, Ceh, and I made up the middle, and poor Drque was quite firmly the tail end.

I have no clue either. The fights were so different for me: I kept NOT getting hate! I couldn't get hate if I wanted to! (And I did want to a couple times, when you two were getting pounded.) Maybe we were rushing too much because of time issues (though it didn't feel that way) or maybe we just got unlucky.

I strongly wonder what would have happened if I was meleeing (and stopping when the 'sleep!' call went out) instead of just nuking. My spells were doing very little, I could have hit it for a lot more. I should have said something. :/

A lot of the strategies I've read suggested (for Rangers) sleep bolts and bloody bolts. This was before the 'nerf' that the lolRGRs have been whining about.

Melee may well have been more effective, no clue.

Maybe we can try it again some time; so far my drops have been half good half bad from this BCNM. And there are a lot of good drops to be had. The point is moot for now anyway; I'm out of seals and can't get any orbs for a while. :)

While I had fun with you two, I think I'm going to sit out of all BCNM runs for a long while. Other than my worthless-to-everyone-but-me slayer's ring, BCNMs have been nothing but a total and utter loss for me.
