Covering one's ass (Political)

First, Bill Maher on Bush:
Herbert Hoover was a shitty president, but even he never conceded an entire metropolis to rising water and snakes.
On your watch, we've lost almost all of our allies, the surplus, four airliners, two Trade Centers, a piece of the Pentagon and the City of New Orleans...Maybe you're just not lucky!
I'm not saying you don't love this country. I'm just wondering how much worse it could be if you were on the other side. So, yes, God does speak to you, and what he's saying is, "Take a hint."
(Link.)
Second, from Yahoo News:
WASHINGTON - Senate Republicans on Wednesday scuttled an attempt by Sen. Hillary Clinton to establish an independent, bipartisan panel patterned after the 9/11 Commission to investigate what went wrong with federal, state and local governments' response to Hurricane Katrina.
The New York Democrat's bid to establish the panel — which would have also made recommendations on how to improve the government's disaster response apparatus — failed to win the two-thirds majority needed to overcome procedural hurdles. Clinton got only 44 votes, all from Democrats and independent Sen. Jim Jeffords of Vermont. Fifty-four Republicans all voted no.
(Bold mine.)
Because really, why would people want to find out what went wrong during the hurricane? It's not like we actually might want to fix it before the next one or anything, we just have to protect our incompetent president!
If you wish to make your opinion on that known, you can find contact info for your senators here.
I wish I could feel like writing would make any difference at all, but things are so bad already and only getting worse. Recall when people wanted to impeach Clinton because he had oral sex (GASP! DISMAY!) with an intern? Where are those folks now? (Oh yeah, doing everything within their power to defend idiot Bush...) Why is no one in Washington screaming for Bush's head on a pike?
I'm so embarrassed for us all. A nation of children...

Date: 2005-09-15 04:01 pm (UTC)If I had a Republican senator representing me I probably would be calling more often... they take calls from constituents a bit more seriously than calls from someone outside their state.
I am not shocked, but not pleased either. The bright side, if there is one, is that the longer Republicans in Congress hitch their wagons to the Bush train, more of them will pay for it at the next election as Bush's ratings plummet.

Date: 2005-09-15 05:14 pm (UTC)My friend is a registered republican who hates his party :p I love making fun of them when he's around. I really enjoy the fact that in the 2 Presidential elections he's been legal to vote in he hasn't voted for his party.
have to give it to the republicans though.. When one goes down in flames, they all go down :) I can't wait for midterms. If the democrats don't screw it up we should hold the senate and house once again :D

Date: 2005-09-16 06:27 am (UTC)2)I love Hillary and would gladly vote for her again and again. ♥ (and actually, I have no worries about my senators as a whole, seeing how bipartisan Chuck Schumer is.) Yay, NY! We're a cesspool, but we're a forward thinking cesspool!

If you meant the dress code permits that, come on out to CA. People run around barefoot at work all the time. Weather-wise it's a touch cold for it in the winter (drops down to the 60s, maybe 50s sometimes), but no one would look twice at you for being barefoot in a store or on the street.
