Unfortunately I'm a "grown up" (stop snickering!). I don't believe in Santa. I have a job that pays well, thus I can buy anything I want/need. All of my family is on the other side of the country. All of that adds up to Christmas doesn't mean much of anything to me.

So it's a surprising and wonderful feeling to be excited about being given something new in the future. I realized more than a year ago that that was one of the many things that FFXI does for me: Before updates and new releases, they trickle out teaser information day by day, keeping me excited and bouncing over new fun stuff.

The new expansion pack was announced today! The impossible-to-pronounce "Treasures of Aht Urhgan"! Even though they've given so little information on it (based on the trailer), I'm so excited!

Apparently one of the new jobs will be Blue Mage (which I hope will be called BLU, because BLM is taken and BLU would be mighty cute). It's kind of, um, funny how little I know. When watching the trailer I was like "wow, those moves he's doing look sort of like mob moves. You'd think they would have used new animation for a trailer..." but only after reading my friends list was I reminded that BLUs actually learn mob moves. Heh. I had known that, honest! I just forgot! (It's even used in gbeans's story!) I really feel like I should go and play all the FF games, just so I know as much as everyone else. :P

It's strange that some people like how the BLU AF (assuming that's AF in the trailer) looks. To me, they couldn't have made uglier stuff if they tried... It seems like everyone either loves it or hates it.

More exciting than the BLUs is that we got a quick glimpse of a new city! And it looks so so so so different than any existing ones! And pirates! Maybe we'll get to see/do more with pirates in this expansion pack! (Pirates > ninjas, baby!)

There's still so many things left to do and I've only scratched them and they're throwing even more at us ; ; Finding time to go leveling is hard enough when there are missions and quests and crafts to do!

I admit I can't explain the new areas, but I can't help but call BS on that. If that's really what Blue Mage is going to look like, I aint buyin' it. The AF is a reworked Shai'ir set, and they don't even get a new animation for using abilities? WEAKSAUCE.

I LIKE that it looks like Sha'ir. I quit the game JUST before it was discovered about the item being broken into cashmere. T_T So if I can get a gypsy harem outfit through an AF quest, HELL YEAH, I'm into that. :D

An enemy's attack doesn't look like a BLACK MAGIC spell. Therefore (as in the video) using Dragon Breath shouldn't look like a black magic spell. Is it necessary to make a new animation for it? No. Is it fucking lazy? Yes.
It saddens me that even with their shitty track record for customer satisfaction /support they are STILL trying to get away with the bare minimum of what they can to not take a huge hit to their player base, and people are acting like it's a godsend because OMG BLU R0X0RZ.

They are doing nothing but recycling and thats fucking WEAKSAUCE. People shouldn't be impressed over something that SE didn't even TRY to make look decent. I thought Yin Yang Robe, Reverend Mail etc was bad enough, at least that was just a free update and their overall lack of updates this year compared to last had people thinking this next expansion was gonna something serious. This is a brand new expansion, with a BRAND NEW job and the best they can do is recycle models and animations? That alone IMO sets up this expansion to fail miserably compared to RotZ and CoP.

Not to mention that AF looks nothing like a BLU should look, this is Final Fantasy not Aladdin. I have seen an original player made skin for what they would have BLU AF look like, based on traditional FF, and it was 10x better than this. I'm not saying it's ugly, I'm just saying it sucks. I want to be IMPRESSED like I was with CoP. This is not impressive at all.

I wonder how much of this is that PS2 issue? The same reason why hair colors are so limited and things like belts and collars don't show? That the PS2s just don't have the power for as many graphics as a PC or assumedly the Xbox will have?

That AF (if that's really what it is) really is bad, and really does look like the Shai'ir set. :/ I can cope with the animation being the same (since it's supposed to be copied off the mob), but the AF should be different.

They say this is coming out next year, but they've just alluded to it on the website. My guess is around christmas-time, to coincide with the release (outside the US) of the XBox 360.
