Night was split between the two games. Two hours on FFXI (the uneventful Eco Warrior followed by the more exciting Escort). Happily I got a little epenis stroking in:

WS + SE (without AF head). Left me down about 400 HP, but meh. Whatever. (WoW's infected me, I don't care (much) about death anymore!)
---
WoW had some really good times and some really ... somewhat less good times tonight (still good but a little frustrating). I died five or six times, which just about doubles my total deaths there. I died three times in ten minutes! (I swear to god, some mobs aren't showing up on my mob radar. There is no way I could miss packs of things stalking me!) I died a couple times in combat, but those were acceptable. (I'm at a tough level right now: The easiest things in this new zone are just a little too hard, and everything else is highly deadly, but the zone before this is way too low.) What annoyed me was that twice a herd of centaur somehow appeared around me (not having shown as incoming on my radar) and killed me dead fast. (I mean sheesh, what do they have against me? Stupid horse-butted things.) Then once a pack of something else killed me, again not showing on my radar first (I never even saw what they were, I was just attacked by a bunch of things at once and died fast).
After the three-deaths-in-ten-minutes, I decided to give it one last chance before giving up for the night. I sent loyal (and often dead) Fluffy in to attack, and tried to shoot from afar... only to find my gun had broken! Grrr, stupid death-wearing-out-things. So ha ha, I died again.
Fluffy and I both hit level 14, so I went and bought all my new abilities and such. Since I had "a lot" of money left, I went and got all my armor and weapons fixed, no matter if they needed it yet or not. Sadly I only found the skinning-abilities-teaching guy after that, and found that my next level was going to cost 50 silver. Gah! I've never even had that much money before! :/ So I went out and tried to farm (the FFXI cure-all for low funds!) but found I can't farm very well at my level. I ended up just killing wolves to get meat for Fluffy -- he died so much, I had to feed him my entire stockpile just to make him happy again. Darned lovable eating machine. :)
And speaking of Fluffy, he rocks. It's rather odd to find myself in a support role for my pet: I sent him in to attack, once he has hate I shoot once with that DoT shot that I have, then I let him fight and heal him. Only near the end, once he has hate for sure, do I jump in and help kill. (Or that's how it goes in theory, anyway. Hate is terribly wobbly sometimes.)
And to file under "Dude, I may be new but I'm not stupid". He asked me if I was a new player and if this was my first character.

(Sorry if that's hard to read. I've not fixed that chat window to make things more visible yet.)
I have no idea if he was offering to PL me or (more likely) he expected me to give him my login info. o.O Buh? And if nothing else, you're promising to get my character to 20 in three days? If I worked at it, I'm sure I could do that myself!
And, the subject of the subject line: Wheeeee! I can fly! Oh my god, I love flying for getting around! I wasted money doing it, just because it rocks so much! Whatever the heck that thing I ride is, it's ugly as heck, but it works! And it's so cool: Sometimes you fly low enough you can actually see the mobs walking around below you! And it feels so much like really flying! And unlike FFXI's airships, there's no wait and no minimum level (you just have to talk to a NPC to get access to that place, so you need to visit once first). I'd call it a lot more expensive (the short hops I take cost me a silver and change, which I suspect is worth a lot more than 500 gil), but it's so so so much more fun.
If I had known I'd be posting so many WoW screenshots, I'd have made a new directory for them. :/ Maybe I'll have to do that and edit all the old posts before I make too many more. Or leave copies in both places. Hmmm.
Edit: I still can't believe I'm playing a giant ugly bull thing. :P 99.99999999% of the time I see myself only from the back (I can't get the camera to swing around to more than my side) so I can usually pretend that I'm just a big hairy human. On rare occasions where I can get the camera swung around enough to see me from the front, I boggle at just how ugly I am. :( I totally should have been a human, if only they could be hunters. When I look at Thistle on FFXI, I think "Gah, I'm so sexy! I'd totally do me!" But WoW me makes me cringe. :/

Date: 2005-10-04 05:50 am (UTC)Oh, and URL for the day: http://www.thottbot.com/
I agree that the Horde races are all ugly. That's probably on purpose. Alliance has Humans and Gnomes, which are basically FFXI's Humes and Tarutarus, aesthetically speaking.
(I'd tell you more things, but half the fun is the joy of discovery.)

Date: 2005-10-04 07:36 am (UTC)Albeit there's many other functions in Cosmos, the only thing I only use is /tloc (it tells you your coordinates under your radar).

Date: 2005-10-04 07:20 pm (UTC)Also: in case you hadn't figured this out yet (it took me a while) hitting 'v' at the start of each session will bring up a slightly ugly but very functional little bar over any NPC that shows health and neutral/friendly/enemy status. Very very handy. Essentially, if you get close enough to see that, you'll likely aggro an enemy.
I'm not sure if centaurs show up under track humanoids--never took my hunter to an area with them. Honestly. the tracker thing annoyed me so much I rarely used it. ;) There's a mod called Aggro or something that dings whenever you aggro (or get Hate). It's proven very handy for me and is helping me train. It also lets me know when I aggro something behind me.
And also, never call it farming in WoW. Farmers are the people who get items and such and then sell them for RL money. They are HATED. HATEY HATE HATED. We call it "grinding". That isn't considered offensive in the WoW community. Calling it farming, alas, is. Even though it's the same thing. :)

"Grinding" is killing lots of things for no XP, just for money? Huh! On FFXI it's just the opposite: Grinding your way through XP. But oops, okay! No more calling tha "farming" in WoW! :)

Thanks for the URL! That looks handy.

Probably yeah, since ugly = bad. :/ It's odd though, nothing in the game so far makes it feel like I'm a bad guy. My quests are all things like "Save the earth!" or "Clean the poison out of the well!".

And on the subject of 'attractiveness', the alliance characters are either bulky, muscly bodybuilding men, or all-boobs-and-ass women. And it's such fun to play a group of outcasts. :D

Date: 2005-10-04 02:04 pm (UTC)Funny, this is the first time something is easier in FFXI. Tracking tracks any and all mobs, which is handy as heck.

Ha ha! I'm surprised people fall for that at all.

*rolls* Gah. Perhaps I'll remain a bull-thing. /moo!

Date: 2005-10-04 03:04 pm (UTC)I have to agree. WoW is sadly lacking in bishounen. At least in FFXI there's plenty of pretty boy character models to oogle. A couple of the human and night elf setups can be hot, but I've seen much I like. Way too much facial hair in general. Bleh. >.<
From what I know also, Tauren really are more loosely affiliated with the Horde so that might be why your quests are more "Save the World" instead of killing lots of humans. From what I've heard, they're just in it because they feel they owe the Orcs a debt for saving them which is certainly less evil than say, the Undead who (again from what I know, I've always be alliance. <3 elf) are just using the horde to their ends and also have their own agenda.
Regarding hunter, have you gotten concussive shot yet? If you can't train Fluffy to have Growl yet (or his growl isn't doing much), concussive shot is your best friend. You keep hate, use concussive from afar to pull and slow them down while you pile the arrows in them and have him just doing extra damage. Or that's what worked for me till I got a higher rank growl. Also alternating with arcane shot for a little extra oomf helped. Though keep raptor strike handy 'cause sometimes they have a few hit points left by the time concussive shot wears off.
Sounds like the guy was offering a PL. Druids are pretty good healers/buffers in addition to having cool forms. Just got cat form the other day, so cool! And it felt like a major cheat just buying whereas had to quest for bear and sea lion forms. But anyway, mentioning he was a 60 druid in the same breath as getting you to 20 sounds to me like "Wanna hit level 30? I have a 65whm!" Which leans more towards PL than wanting your account info IMO. (For the record, I have like a billion characters. Got a Druid, a Hunter, a Mage, a Priest, and a Warlock. Ok that's only 5 but I still have way too many chars. Hehe)

Date: 2005-10-04 03:17 pm (UTC)Yeah. Nearly all Hume M models look great. Lots of the elves aren't too bad, either.

*tries and fails to recall the opening racial movie* They're so fake Native American and use things like "go in peace" so often that your idea would fit. (Which amuses me muchly. NPC, "Go kill wolves and cougars, I need X drops from each! Go in peace." *cough* Bit of a mixed message there, dude!)

Nope, don't have either yet. :/ That's a good idea though and I'll use it when I can!

Ah. Well he picked a bad potential buyer, since I'm anti-PLing. :) If/when I try another job, it might be that one. It'd be so cool to be able to change forms! (I just got eyes of the beast last night, which at least gives me the feel of that.)

Date: 2005-10-04 03:49 pm (UTC)Part of the reason I like playing Horde on an RP server is that it's easy to imagine "the other side" - how even though you've said it yourself you're not doing "monster" things, the alliance no doubt suspects you are. You're not a bad guy, but you're *perceived* as a bad guy unquestioningly, just because you don't look human/have big boobs/whatever. We're oppressed!
And I saw you in Thunder Bluff yesterday! You were running down the middle rise, and I was fiddling with macros up near the flight guy. I wanted to say hi, but I was seconds away from logging out, so I added you to my friends list and resolved to say hi next time you're on!
(I also wasn't sure of how to bring up the issue of "are you RPing or not" or whatever, but, hey. ;) )
Oh, and I think my tauren is just *adorable*. So fuzzy and cute! But seriously, if you don't like your race, you really should pick one more your style. The Undead might be more of a "he's ugly, but a COOL kind of ugly" for you, or just be like everybody else and roll human. ;)

Yeah, I like that part. We're the bad guys just because we are, not because of what we do. Sort of fits how things are in RL, too!
But seriously, if you don't like your race, you really should pick one more your style.
Two problems with that: 1) I want to be a hunter, which cuts my race choices in half. 2) I don't really like any of the races. Even the humans look rather odd. The only really, really good looking character I've ever seen is
