I hope my computer isn't dying. It runs/works (does something, little 'running' light is on and it makes the "I'm doing something" noise) all the time, and I have to reboot multiple times a day. :/ I've defragged, ran Ad Aware, and of course it virus scans weekly. Add that to the fact that sometimes it makes a worrying clicking noise and I suspect my hard drive is going. Bah. Luckily I backup, um, well, monthly. I should probably step that up a bit.

Look! Lost is on and I'm logged off my games! (Yay "days off" from the game!) Of course I can't sit totally idle and watch, but LJ posting is less attention-taking than playing. This week's ep looks much better than last week's. (As I'm watching: The thing they watch! Gah, wow! Gah! So much info! And ha ha, love Locke! (Later) Holy cow, so much new stuff! (later) I should add a LJ-cut so I can talk more about these things. Jack, dude... So much hate for you. (At the end) Okay, I did NOT need Jack/Locke vibes. Can't the two of them have A Moment with someone else? *twitch* Ugh.)

Work is really, really... not good. I have so much to do (more than usual) and zero will to do it. I signed up for a long weekend next week, so maybe that'll help. Maybe. ...nope, no confidence of that.

By the way, Floppy_Boobies ([livejournal.com profile] fealu_bryne): I haven't forgotten about our NP game, I just haven't had time to spend on the site other than running through to use the lab ray. :/

WoW: Gah. I played more today than I think I've ever played in one day! :} Went from 14-16, found, um, three? new cities (Crossroads, ... some little one, and... that big one. Ogre-whatever). Since I had so much time, I decided I might as well go through The Barrens and see where I'd end up.

I was happy to finally get to *looks up name* Orgrimmar, since I had been wanting to use the Auction House. (I wonder what the reasoning is to not allow people access to it from the beginning?) The WoW AH is very... different. Unless I'm not using it correctly, it's not anywhere near as useful as FFXI's. (Is there a way to check price histories of things that aren't currently for sale? How in the world do you know what to list things for if there are none for sale?)

Seeing this new city made me happy to be a Horde person. So cool looking! (And so so so much better than the darned fake Native American towns I had to start with.) I really liked these sick critters, and how they leave a green glow behind themselves.

Oh, money! Heh heh. Recall yesterday I had said I never even had close to 1 gold? I started at nearly nothing today (1 silver) and ended up with over 1 gold. :P I guess making money is as easy as everything else. (I didn't even try to make it, just did quests and XPed and such.)

Thus far, I think flying is my favorite part of the game. So so so much better than FFXI's airships. I love how you fly low enough to even check the mobs! (Or "check" in FFXI terms, anyway.)

One last interesting thing: I interacted with someone from the other side tonight! The whole "can't talk to the other faction" thing is really cool. We /flirted with each other (which is disturbing, coming from my race), she /cried on my shoulder, I /moo'ed at her. :P I suppose I shouldn't be nice to the other side, but I'd rather be nice than mean.

Oh, I lied, one last thing: Something very, very odd happened with my pet. By the end of the night he was getting unhappy every few minutes. Even when we did nothing but stand around in town, he kept getting unhappy. The only thing I can figure out is that it's another way that the game tries to make you not play for a long time. (And if that is the case, it's very, very annoying. We should be able to play for however long we want to!) He's level 6 loyalty, which I think might be the highest? Once more, he burned through my stockpile of meat for him. :/

That same thing happened with my pet tonight, actually! I dunno what caused it either, though. He just started dropping from happy to content really fast whilst I was powering Kate through a Shaman quest. Even when fighting he never drops that fast. Unless he's dying repeatedly.

Exactly. Even while dying (and we didn't even die once yesterday!) he never got that unhappy that fast. Maybe it was some sort of a bug...

Add that to the fact that sometimes it makes a worrying clicking noise and I suspect my hard drive is going.

If you mean that when you try to do something or start it up, it goes click, silence, click, silence... about every second or so... That's a poor sign, I think. o_O My hard drive recently failed completely, and it made that noise for a period of time before it finally collapsed.

I don't want to scare you or anything (especially since I'm FAR from an expert and could easily be wrong), but even if it is nothing, it wouldn't hurt to back up a bit more frequently, especially if you make an important change. I got stupid, saw other hard drives failing around me, never backed up, and now I'm praying I can get ANYTHING off my broken drive once I find a spare.

...

On a lighter note: Hee! Floppy Boobies.

Hm. It hasn't done the clicking thing in a while, but I think it went click-click-click-click...nothing...click-click-click. I'm not sure of the numbers, but it was a few of them and then nothing for a moment, then a few more. :/ And yeah, I should start doing it more often. Maybe tonight...

Hate to tell you, but then the harddrive clicks.. it's done for. There is no saving it, and it IS going to fail. It's only a matter of time. You should make a backup and get a new harddrive. That way you can copy your current setup as is and have things working as quickly as possible instead of spending agonizing hours reinstalling everything.

Bah. :/ I'll have to get onto that.

Folks in the industry call that sound 'The Click of Death'. It is a sure sign of hardware failing on the hard drive, there's pretty little chance of it not dying on you, sorry to say. :/

D is 100% correct.

FAR more often than not, and that's the simple truth. :)

D enriches my life on many many many levels. :)

D keeps me humble when I get too hubris laden, D loves me without conditions, I love D just as much and with the same lack of strings, D is my friend, D is someone I can confide in, or rely upon. :)

Hee! Okay...I got a little mushy there, but I think you get the idea.

My computer does that too, I need to learn how to back up and reformat TT

I bought an external harddrive (wasn't too expensive, under $100 I think) and it came with some software that would do it for me. It just takes a couple hours, so I do it overnight or while I'm off to work.

I tried downloading free programs that would back things up to CDs/DVDs, but all those succeeded in doing was waste endless CDs and DVDs.

Good luck!

Have no fear--you'll burn through money fairly fast too. ;)

There are mods for the AH that track prices and so on. I can't remember what they're called since I don't use them but I know people who do. You can probably just google for those.

AH can be great or can be horrid. I try and make a modest little profit with things I put in there but sometimes the prices get out. of. control. This is where the farmers on various servers have been seriously hurting the gameworld economy, driving up AH prices. My main server -- Shadow Council -- has some of the highest AH prices in WoW and it's because of Farmers. Thus, why people get so angry. ;)

Hmmm... You now thistle, I don't remember reading anything else about your comments on Lost. But having read several of your entries on politics, religion, etc... I'm surprised you don't like the Jack the analitical, fact based thinker and favor Locke, the spiritual believer in a "higher power/purpose" ^^

Date: 2005-10-06 02:31 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com
Hm, interesting comparison! :) Jack annoys me for oh so many reasons (I basically disliked him from the first moment I saw him on screen), but the science vs faith thing never really came into it. I love Locke as a character, faults and all (and this insane "I have a purpose! This isn't what was meant to be!" is, in my mind, one of those faults).

Jack sucks at being a leader (and at being a doctor, at least on the dealing-with-people part), and... well I could list everything I dislike about him, but I'm sure LJ comments have limits on length. ;)

Ha ha ha! But it's not my fault! The Barrens are all silly! I zoned in, and first thing that happened was aggro by a 26 level beastie! And I was like level 12 at the time! So I go "Okay, too early for this zone.". Come back two levels later and the zoneline is still camped by things 19-25+ I go in a little ways to get to that first town/camp thing, and from there ventured further. Eventually (at level 14) I found an area with 16-19 level stuff, so tried to level there (and died lots).

Only days (and levels) later did I find that by going way deep in there were actually 11-14 areas. *boggle* Why would the lowest level stuff be deep in? And the zoneline having high level stuff?

And don't make me /moo at you. Or worse yet, /flirt. "Free rides for the ladies!" :D *runs away*

Yeah, WoW is pretty fucked up when it comes to critter levels. @_@ I have no clue why. The larger cities tend to have lower level mobs around them. o_oa

Erm. No. >.>a Shamans can't use swords. ;3 I've got a mace though! And a big stick!

Maces are silly, unless they come in a can that you can use to spray your attackers with.

Isn't there some saying like "Walk softly but carry a big stick"? Maybe that's telling you that you should use that as your main weapon! Sayings never, ever lie.
