The names in these FFXI missions are driving me bat'ty. I feel like I'm on a Pern MUSH.

(Blurred everything except the names to prevent major spoilers.)

Welcome to Vana'diel, I guess?

We did the NM thingie which would let us get into Promy-VsomethingIcantspell. It went down in one WS. :P Then we stayed and did those other battles to get the bracelets which do something I don't know. But we have both blue and green ones now, so yay! I'm sure if we ever have to do whatever they do, we'll be darned happy we have them!

And how in the world did I not screenshot when we all appeared naked in Promy-V after the cutscene? I suppose I was distracted by all the nekkid people. It was very amusing though, take my word for it. Draque naked for all but his gloves and his beard, I had just my gloves and boots, Ead and Aurian were buck naked, Chip was too small to see his nakedness, and Niala was as naked as only a Mithra can be. Highly amusing.

WoW: Once again, I almost didn't log on. When in the world did WoW start requiring more attention/work than loafing around on FFXI? *boggle* While Fluffy tanks like a FFXI PLD could only dream (his "provoke" (growl) has a cooldown of five seconds. I couldn't get hate off him if I tried!), the game still requires more of my attention than it ever has thus far. It's not even to keep Fluffy healed, because he's both a rocking tank and our "party's" main DD, I need to watch the environment around us. Darned centaurs keep sneaking up on me (I rely on my mob radar too much, I think -- holdover from FFXI), plus there are so many aggro mobs around (but at least I can usually see those coming).

I hit 17 tonight, muchly through questing. It boggles me that I've reached 17 without partying once!

While I really wanted a cat as a pet (a real pet, not a BST-type fighting pet), I wasn't comfortable paying all my money for one at the AH... or at least as long as it wasn't the exact kind I wanted (black tabby). But because I get impatient about things I want, I ran out and got a praire dog pet! He's very, very, very small though (just a fraction of one of my hooves) and he likes to stand between my hooves, which makes me go o.O . (That screenshot was a rare exception.) Poor little guy's gonna get smushed, and badly!

But very quickly I grew tired of never being able to see him, so I took that boat from that place (you know, that place) and bought a parrot pet. He's a lot easier to see, being much larger and much, um, greener. Problem is, he shows up as a red dot on my mob radar (eh, "beast tracking", maybe if I called it the right thing I might start remembering what it can and can't do), which keeps making me think I have aggro chasing me. :( I'm glad I noticed that now, before spending a ton on a cat. I don't think I can deal with being chased by a red dot all the time, and I doubt I'll remember to call him out if I keep him out only in towns.

One last new and odd thing: I thought ??? for a player's level meant they were anon, but apparently it just shows up when they're much higher level than you? For the first time ever, I saw that on mobs! (And then almost died to them... poor Fluffy gave his life so I could get away.) I went out that port/pirate city (the parrot vendor place) and out into this woods (whose name I forgot), and it was full of gorillas! *boggle* It's so odd that WoW uses RL monsters as their mobs! Anyway, there was a dead gorilla, so I wanted to go skin it (if people kill things and just run off, I tend to skin the kills). It was 'skinnable' in red, which I didn't notice/realize till I was on top of it. Then a live one showed up and I went "oooh!" and checked it, then went "Eeeek!" ran off screaming like a girl. A group of humans and night elves were there and they /laughed at me. Rightly so! :P

The mobs outside Booty Bay are EVIL! Evil with a capital E! ; ; They smushed me several times before 'cause I was dumb and ran away from the city instead of toward it. Thank god death there doesn't take away exp. :P

I almost never use my beast tracking on my Hunter tho. She's a skinner/miner, so I keep her with the radar up to spot mining spots. Yay easy money!

Booty Bay

Ha ha ha. How did I forget a name that makes that much sense? Booty Bay, the place with pirates! Zzzzz. I'm tired, brain is shutting off.

Thank god death there doesn't take away exp. :P

That may be the thing I like most about the game. Money is easy enough to make so I can always get my armor fixed, but losing XP is just darned annoying! Even with it easier to come by there.

I should do that with my herb-hunting. (Ha ha, "herb hunting" makes me sound like a druggie. :P ) Especially in the lower level areas, keeping your pet in defensive mode helps keep you safe, even from behind and stuff!

And we all know how important it is to keep your behind safe...

Heehee, those are great! And so sharp, too! You must be using a higher resolution or something? .png doesn't just make for better images than .jpg, right?

The ??? monsters are all eleven levels or more above you. If you can kill anything in red at all (three levels above you), you're way too powerful. ;) Spell resists and amount of damage reduced from armor is partially dependent upon level, so... yeah.

Also, Booty Bay! lol name is pervy

I didn't party once until... about your level. If you're looking for an instance (a special just-for-you-and-your-party part of the world) at your level, the one in Orgrimmar might be right; otherwise, I'd haul butt to the Barrens and look for a group to the Wailing Caverns, a level 20+ instance. Grouping for the first time was what really got me into the game, and I still talk to one of the guys I first met there. :)

Your pet is great for soloing (which is great, because if he wasn't, what would be the point in having long-distance attacks if you can't use them?), but once you start fighting elites in instances, you're gonna be begging for a warrior! ;)

Wailing Caverns would be good but she'd do even better in Ragefire Caverns in Origrimmar. It's just a little bit lower and there are some quests in Thunder Bluff for it. I can't remember where but you should be able to look it up on thottbot. Instances are both fun, xp-licious and a place to get really good items.

The gorillas are like...38-41 depending on the gorilla. ;) Easy to kill in your very high 30s, monkey death in your 10s. ;)

And, sadly, the higher up you get, the more of your attention it demands. But the prettier and more fun it gets, especially once you get a mount. Alas. :)

Before I found the right section of The Barrons, I was actually XPing on things 3 levels above me! (That was that day where I had like 4 deaths in a half-hour.) I can kill things that high if everything goes right, but one thing going wrong meant death. Fluffy really is way too powerful; I'm currently leveling on things 2 levels above me, and he can nearly solo them. I skin the last kill while he's killing the next one. Feels a little unbalanced to me...

Pervy like a fox! ;)

but once you start fighting elites in instances, you're gonna be begging for a warrior! ;)

Because warriors are tanks or some other reason? And what's an elite? Is it like a NM (a special, often named, unique mob)?

What's wrong with those names, Th'istle? I find them to be great names, and apostrophes help give it that fantasy feeling. I feel like I have the power to slay a dragon after eating a mean from Burg'er K'ing. Don't go for so'da, get the mil'ksh ake, it has MP bonuses.

You have me wanting to play WoW. O_O

Exactly. :P

And WoW has its uses. I seem to kill time in it a lot easier than I currently do in FFXI. The world feels a lot bigger, too. (I'm not sure if it really is, but it feels like it.)

There are a ton of downsides to it though. Everything's way too easy (I can solo mobs for 300+ XP! *boggle*), and you get XP for everything. More than that, ... it's hard to explain, but I don't feel special in the game. It's not about me, I just happen to be passing through for the moment.

It is sort of fun though, in a turn-off-your-brain sort of way.

Agreed, it doesn't fit him at all. And honestly, I sort of liked him better without a name. Seemed to fit him better.

*snickers* The names remind me of a review I read of some fantasy novel series where the names had an excess of that particular punctuation mark. The reviewere called them "damn'ed du'mb apo'stro'phes."

I'm surprised they're not actually the Zi'lart. Or are they, really?
