Tuesday, Tuesday. (RL then WoW)
Oct. 18th, 2005 08:12 amYesterday's LotR page-a-day calendar picture is the funniest thing. Three men, all with long hair, one in front and the others behind each of his shoulders. One in back has his eyes cast down, the other is looking forward sadly, and the one in front has his chin lifted a little. Between their poses, the lighting, and the black-draped background they look more like one of those Christian rock bands than they do characters in a movie.
Hope kitty's not getting sick again. Or rather, she got sick so I hope she's not getting worse-sick. She threw up all over the bathroom rug while I was in the shower. It was such a mess I decided to throw out the rug because I couldn't get it clean enough. Plus she just started having diarrhea. :/ I switched her back to her old food and will see if hopefully that clears it up. If it does, I'll try switching her to the new food more slowly (I did it over maybe 4-5 days last time, which I would have thought would be slow enough...). Bah. *snuggles her*

I really can't explain why I'm having such a great time in WoW, but I am. It's just so easy and non-stressful and non-demanding. I would have thought the lack of a sense of accomplishment would really hurt my enjoyment, but it doesn't. (I finally hit my goal of skinning 200 last night, but while going from 1 -> 2 in any craft on FFXI was harder than 1 -> 200 of skinning on WoW, I don't care! I never broke a single synth or had to buy a single crystal on WoW! Just two extra mouse clicks after I killed something for XP or for farming!)
Both Fluffy and I hit 22 last night (went from a third of the way into 21 to a third of the way into 22 in a couple of hours). I really feel like such a slacker next to him: He's an outstanding tank (I never even need to heal him anymore, not unless we're fighting multiple mobs), and as a DD he blows me out of the water. But the biggest nice thing is that I almost never, ever get hit! Maybe once in the beginning of the fight before his first growl (provoke) goes off, but never more than that.
doxxxicle, this is the bar I mentioned last night, way up at the top of the screen. (Don't mind the arrows in the screenshot, they were for something else.) Not only do you get all that displayed info, if you hover over it you get more (like your gil/hour figures and such). I love it to death. You can find more info and a download link here.

Date: 2005-10-18 03:45 pm (UTC)I would so not have it any other way. If there is one thing, just one thing I've learned over the past year, it's that a game shouldn't be work. Period. :)

Date: 2005-10-18 04:36 pm (UTC)That would seem to make sense, wouldn't it? But... but... but... Feeling good because you worked hard for something is nice, too. And while you could say "You should work hard at work and get that feeling there", that's not exactly an option in my case. (Eh, not the working hard part, the getting good feelings from work.)
I'm just very confused. For more than a year I had fun on FFXI. Yeah it was a crapload of work, often stressful, very often frustrating, but somehow I had fun. But now I'm having fun doing just the opposite...

Date: 2005-10-18 05:03 pm (UTC)I know many, many people that play WoW, get a class to 60, get bored senseless and go back to FFXI.
Oh, by the way there's a plugin for FFXI that calculates your hourly exp too. Exp per hour doesn't really concern me though.

Date: 2005-10-18 05:27 pm (UTC)That's exactly how it seems. It's no work, no stress, no effort, no frustration, and you don't even need to interact with anyone else. It's darned nice.

Yeah. That (among many other reasons) is why I won't delete my FFXI character just because I'm currently only having fun on WoW. I'm really, really hoping that I can start enjoying FFXI again one day, and I darned well want my character there for me when I do.

I'm pretty sure there's a bar just like that for FFXI too, but I agree: In FFXI it doesn't matter as much. It takes so darned long to level that it'd probably be depressing to see your "to next level" time always in front of you, plus something like an ammo-count couldn't be kept since there are so many different kinds.
