Halloween arrived on WoW, and it seems to have crashed the servers. :P Mine was down for an hour or so tonight, which wasn't as annoying as it would have been on FFXI. See, I've always heard stories about Blizzard giving out free XP when the servers are down, but I guess this wasn't enough downtime to qualify for that. Or perhaps the free XP thing is a rumor, but I doubt that (it seems like a WoW-ish thing to do).

One of the costumes I got actually made me look cute! Gnome pirate, ahoy! And it was really funny being that short. (That's also the last screenshot Fluffy will ever make it into. RIP Fluffy.) My prairie dog is next to me -- when I'm gnome-sized he makes a more fitting pet!

My second costume actually succeeded in making me uglier, which I wouldn't have thought possible. Look! I'm a cross-dressing bull-man! Think I could pass as a female troll? (NO NO NO NO.)

The second screenshot also features my new pet: Pitch the white wolf! Oddly he looks more grey than white in the daylight, it's only at night or in the dark that he seems to be all glowy-white.

I leveled him from 19 -> 21 tonight, but I fell just barely short of hitting 23 myself.

A question for all you WoW people! What the heck is up with Elite mobs being so much higher than their stated level? And is there some rule that applies across the board? Like "Add five to the stated level of any elite"? I encountered a level 25 one tonight, but I didn't dare try it because I knew it would be much higher than that.

Related to that: I went into an instanced dungeon tonight, and ha ha ha, found my plans to be a total waste. The highest level mob in there was 20-21, and I'm 22, so I figured I'd tear through the place... but every single thing I found in there was elite. How annoying! Are all of those dungeons like that? I actually died in there tonight, and I've not died in days. Bah.

I suppose I should get a WoW icon, if I'm going to keep posting about it...

Instances are not meant to be soloed. Elite mobs also can't be soloed unless you're much higher than them. Eventually you're going to get elite quests which require the help of other players.

Hunters can solo elites the same level as them! X3 At least, I could at 28, I dunno about higher level elites. *uberhunter, rawr!* But yeah, instances are a pain in the neck solo, even if all the mobs are gray. >< I ran through RFC on my own at 20 just for the hell of it (and to clear out some quests in my log) and had a damn hard time with mobs a good chunk of levels below me. ; ;

I soloed an elite one level higher than me! That Swiftmane fellow from the other night. It was a close fight though...

But yeah, instances are a pain in the neck solo, even if all the mobs are gray.

Drat. Well one day I'll go back and try again!

Ah. I suppose that explains that auto-grouping stone thingie I found outside of this one.

Elite mobs also can't be soloed unless you're much higher than them.

I guess it would make sense that Hunters could, since they're not really "solo". That Swiftmane elite I killed the other night was a level higher than me.

Really wish I could have killed that one last night though...

Elites are icky.

I got whomped by one when playing my warlock, got pissed, stocked up on healing crap, and went and beat the shit outta it. Repeatedly.

I felt better. ;)

Yeah. The problem is they're so much stronger than they should be at that level, and since they give more XP you'd think they would actually /be/ a higher level than what appears next to their name...

I really wanted to try that one last night, but he was 25 and I was 22 (and Pitch was 20), so it would have eaten me for lunch.

The level of elites means absolutely nothing. I have successfully beaten elites three levels higher than me, and been completely whomped by some way below me. Basically, elite monsters have higher HP, do more damage, have more armour and usually have nastier spells than any other regular mob of its type. So usually don't attempt to take one alone. The exception is the quest elite spider in Stonetalon Mountains. She's pathetic for an elite.

Ah, drat. Oh well, I'll have to leave them alone or risk death. Thanks for the info!

Welcome!

Once you've pitted yourself against them a few times, you'll get an idea for what you can handle. Then you'll find a new one that completely defies the rules you made. :P
