*rolls* How totally fitting. Because hey, an 8 hour downtime after a 10 hour downtime just wasn't enough! They had to toss in a 3 hour downtime the same day... and then extend it for another hour!

S-E, you suck. Seriously.

Edit, taken from [livejournal.com profile] zubis's LJ:

Ha ha. S-E sucks, and the Better Business Bureau agrees:

Square-Enix's Business Rating: F

We strongly question the company’s reliability for reasons such as that they have failed to respond to complaints, their advertising is grossly misleading, they are not in compliance with the law’s licensing or registration requirements, their complaints contain especially serious allegations, or the company’s industry is known for its fraudulent business practices.

Link.

Edit, again:

Lest you think that all MMORPG companies would get a low rating, Blizzard (makers of WoW) got a "BB": BB: A high rating. The company would generally have demonstrated good business-consumer relations, and we would expect any consumer complaints not to be of a serious nature and to be satisfactorily handled by the company.

*dies laughing* Best FFXI icon ever. And oh so true!

Yeah. :P And I edited in some additional information from the BBB about S-E...

Ha. That's... really sad. I wonder if most of the problems come from FFXI, or if their customer service is just horrible in general?

I used to know someone who worked for them, but she was in localization, not customer service, so I doubt she'd know anything.

No clue. I'd suspect both...

I could tell you way too many stories about the crap SE pulled in Europe.

Yeah, the downtime for maintenance has been terrible these last few months

- but -

I think that icon should be awarded to Ragnarok Online. ;3

Maybe things have improved since I quit 2 years ago, though.

RO's bad, too? I never played that one. Darned games with flakey servers...

I agree with that 100%

You can't comment on how bad the FF servers are until you've experienced Lagnarok Online.
I seem to recall a time when the RO servers went down for like a week, or some other unreasonable, definitly much worse than 10 hour maintenances. My apologies for not remembering enough details, but the crap we (the player base) took from Gravity (RO's maker) is something that I've probably blocked out of my longterm memory.

Hell, when they first marketed the game (Pay2Play, wasn't like it was ready to leave Beta either), they had ONE GM for ALL 3 international servers (population averages 5-6k each) who BARELY spoke any english.

I can't play right now anyways due to RL stuffs, but I know my LS have runs ruined by the maintenance. Seriously though, aren't there better things to do than to sit and wait/rant for the server to come up? (Not addressed to you, but there are a lot of people that thinks "ZOMG server down! SE is OUT. TO. GET. US!!!1111")

I'm still not letting SE off the hook though. This is the second Thursday in a row that I will not be able to static and I need static to just be able to *stay* at my current exp thanks to SE making the penalty for death so extreme. *shakes fist*

- but -

Until you experience a roll back every 3 days; not to mention have your player login and password in plain text hacked off the server and distributed over the internet you have not experienced shoddy service.

And no, a double exp event does not make up for that *ever*.

Ahh... Good times XD I'd forgotten about those.
Look at it this way, when you finally get the EXP to stay, it's such a sense of accomplishment XDDD

Not saying SE's doing so hot either, but people implying that they'er the ZOMGWTFBBQ worse MMORPG maker EVAR is a little premature. I hope they get their act together before SE joins Gravity in my books X_x

I thought RO was free though? Or is that incorrect?

My opinion on it? I pay for the game. I pay to be able to play. If I were actually even a little bit interested in FFXI anymore, I'd be darned mad at all this downtime. S-E should at the very least be refunding part of the month's fees. But of course they won't.

Initially RO was free, but then it became a subscription-based service.

And I'll second every comment on how bad RO's customer service was... my god, you could NEVER log in to that game. Trust me, FFXI is a HUGE step up from RO.

Ah, that makes sense then. If it were still free, people would have to just accept how things are...

I just have this mental image of them having stuck so much extra code in, patch upon patch upon patch... well... when you've got that much extra code you didn't write when you started, I can see where a missed line here or an unnecessary bit of coding there could bring whole chunks of the system down.

The amount of times I spent a week on a program spanning hundreds of lines only to find that the only reason that it didn't work was because of a missed semi-colon in the depths of an object I'd referred to... >.

Yeah, understandable, but 1) They're being paid a lot of money to keep it right, and 2) other MMORPGs can do it right, so why not them?

That's what you get a good compiler for. The kind with a good built in checker for syntax and stuff that can point out where your errors are. "Line 3465: ; expected" would have saved you lots of time.

Since you expect SE to have things like that (they can certainly afford good programming tools), you know their problems are far more complex. But the fact that they have to add so much extra code in patching, says it wasn't tested enough to begin with before sending out. (Isn't that what they have a testing server for?!)

Just trying to get in touch with you about the marzipan post, feel free to delete this. I was actually in the process of deleting the post when I got the email about your reply. Someone else had pointed it out to me just minutes before. I was pretty angry about being fooled like that, not to mention feeling dumb because it had already been posted. I would have replied to your comment, but I'd already clicked delete on the post. Anyways, just wanted to clear that up; like I said, feel free to delete this, but I didn't want us to part on bad terms.

No prob. I think that so many people think they have the right to be snippy or rude to other people on the internet or on the phone, and I didn't want to just be snippy and ignore you. I don't think it's fair.
