*rolls* How totally fitting. Because hey, an 8 hour downtime after a 10 hour downtime just wasn't enough! They had to toss in a 3 hour downtime the same day... and then extend it for another hour!
S-E, you suck. Seriously.
Edit, taken from
zubis's LJ:
Ha ha. S-E sucks, and the Better Business Bureau agrees:
Square-Enix's Business Rating: F
We strongly question the company’s reliability for reasons such as that they have failed to respond to complaints, their advertising is grossly misleading, they are not in compliance with the law’s licensing or registration requirements, their complaints contain especially serious allegations, or the company’s industry is known for its fraudulent business practices.
Link.
Edit, again:
Lest you think that all MMORPG companies would get a low rating, Blizzard (makers of WoW) got a "BB": BB: A high rating. The company would generally have demonstrated good business-consumer relations, and we would expect any consumer complaints not to be of a serious nature and to be satisfactorily handled by the company.

I think that icon should be awarded to Ragnarok Online. ;3
Maybe things have improved since I quit 2 years ago, though.

Date: 2005-10-21 06:30 pm (UTC)You can't comment on how bad the FF servers are until you've experienced Lagnarok Online.
I seem to recall a time when the RO servers went down for like a week, or some other unreasonable, definitly much worse than 10 hour maintenances. My apologies for not remembering enough details, but the crap we (the player base) took from Gravity (RO's maker) is something that I've probably blocked out of my longterm memory.
Hell, when they first marketed the game (Pay2Play, wasn't like it was ready to leave Beta either), they had ONE GM for ALL 3 international servers (population averages 5-6k each) who BARELY spoke any english.
I can't play right now anyways due to RL stuffs, but I know my LS have runs ruined by the maintenance. Seriously though, aren't there better things to do than to sit and wait/rant for the server to come up? (Not addressed to you, but there are a lot of people that thinks "ZOMG server down! SE is OUT. TO. GET. US!!!1111")

Until you experience a roll back every 3 days; not to mention have your player login and password in plain text hacked off the server and distributed over the internet you have not experienced shoddy service.
And no, a double exp event does not make up for that *ever*.

Date: 2005-10-21 07:50 pm (UTC)Ahh... Good times XD I'd forgotten about those.
Look at it this way, when you finally get the EXP to stay, it's such a sense of accomplishment XDDD
Not saying SE's doing so hot either, but people implying that they'er the ZOMGWTFBBQ worse MMORPG maker EVAR is a little premature. I hope they get their act together before SE joins Gravity in my books X_x

My opinion on it? I pay for the game. I pay to be able to play. If I were actually even a little bit interested in FFXI anymore, I'd be darned mad at all this downtime. S-E should at the very least be refunding part of the month's fees. But of course they won't.

Date: 2005-10-21 09:50 pm (UTC)And I'll second every comment on how bad RO's customer service was... my god, you could NEVER log in to that game. Trust me, FFXI is a HUGE step up from RO.

Date: 2005-10-21 09:51 pm (UTC)Ah, that makes sense then. If it were still free, people would have to just accept how things are...

Date: 2005-10-21 05:29 pm (UTC)The amount of times I spent a week on a program spanning hundreds of lines only to find that the only reason that it didn't work was because of a missed semi-colon in the depths of an object I'd referred to... >.

Date: 2005-10-21 05:44 pm (UTC)Yeah, understandable, but 1) They're being paid a lot of money to keep it right, and 2) other MMORPGs can do it right, so why not them?

Date: 2005-10-22 06:42 pm (UTC)Since you expect SE to have things like that (they can certainly afford good programming tools), you know their problems are far more complex. But the fact that they have to add so much extra code in patching, says it wasn't tested enough to begin with before sending out. (Isn't that what they have a testing server for?!)
