FFXI and WoW and zzzz, oh my!

First WoW, because I just died and got confused and logged off and looked stuff up and still don't have answers:
So there I was, innocently lumbering through the Ashenvale woods, seeing what was where. Upon my map appeared that little blue arrow thing indicating a town was ahead. "Oh boy! A new place! Maybe it'll have a flight master NPC and I can get it on my map!" So I ran and ran and ran and eventually reached it!
What a pretty town it was! Sort of oriental, pretty little bridges, cute little buildings. I stepped upon the bridge to cross over the river into it and next thing I know I'm being attacked! And seconds later, I was dead!
My first thought was that it's a damned mob-owned town. I've run into those before, thinking they were people-towns! But then I noticed that once my spirit got back to my body that my PvP flag was set. *boggle* So I logged off and looked up the town name (Astranaar) and discovered that it's a Night Elf town. Bah.
So I guess my hopes of one day finding Alliance towns and just poking about in them (being a kind visitor! Not attacking anyone, not making rude /emotes at anyone, just looking around!) will never come to be? If you enter an enemy town, you get set as PvP and attacked by guards? (This is on a PvE server, mind you.)

FFXI: What started as a slow day turned into an odd but good day and ended as an exciting day and now I go zzzz.
After seeking a party for four hours (FOUR HOURS!) finally a tank and a WHM were seeking at the same time so I grabbed them and made my own party. (Apparently that's the only way I'll ever get a party -- for the second day in a row every single other level 63 person got invited before me... and four 62-63 DRKs got invited before me... and some of those DRKs invited to parties twice with me still getting zero invites!)
The tank was a NIN tank, which is ... well, is better than no tank in my experience. Luckily I had also grabbed an elf WAR and an elf MNK (a nice JP one I had partied with two days before), so we had two fine backup tanks. And did I mention the PL we had? Insert endless rolling-eyes here: 9.9 9.9 9.9 9.9 Excuse the language, but: A damned fucking power leveler at 63? Gods above... But the (rank 3) BLM brought the PLer (WHM75) in, and no one else said anything so I didn't want to offend or lose members by telling the WHM to shoo.
The party rocked. Sadly that was in part due to the PLer (we saved lots of MP because of all the extra healing), but (other than that BLM and the very nice but somewhat clueless WHM -- bought character, perhaps) the members rocked. The NIN tank was fine (perhaps the best NIN tank I've seen... which still puts her below an average PLD tank, but no one died in the party exccept her), but the JP MNK and the NA WAR were outstanding.
I hit level 64! Yay! Yay! Yay! And got a buffer, too! But was so tired by the time I left the party. (There was nearly no downtime at all, we only sat once -- at the end of each chain 5. I spent most of the time with almost no MP.) The killing was just that endless.
But it was mission time and that was big and I was nervous enough to get energy from that. :D The second two bosses in the Promy-V CoP mission. We beat them (the Mea one was a pain in the butt, but the second one (Holla?) was easyish). Tomorrow morning we're taking on the BC.
Oh, and
zubis spotted the last eye I needed for the eye cluster for the O-Hat, so I bought it (330K). Hopefully the synth won't fail, because I might cry if it does.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz So tired.

*ROLLS with giggles* When you see the pretty arches and pillars, be -very- damn careful, 'cause there will be Night Elves nearby. Cities are annoying 'cause they're guarded by NPCs that are like 55+... No, you will never be able to just walk into an Alliance city. NPCs see you as an enemy (I don't think there's any possible way to raise your reputation with the Alliance...), and frankly so will 99% of players. The moment you try to go near a city, a guard will attack you, you will be flagged to PVP even if you manage to kill/escape from the guard, and you will have a swarm of Alliance players jumping -all- over you. Especially in places like Astranaar and Southshore, since those two alliance cities are nearby a Horde city or outpost (Splintertree, I think, is the one near Astranaar? And then there's Tarren Mill near Southshore, and there is almost always PvP going on between those two cities to a point that it's stupid on all of the servers I play on. @_@).

Date: 2005-10-29 01:30 pm (UTC)And yeah, Splintertree is near there. And Southshore is near Tarren Mill. Worst part about that one is there's a quest you have hordeside that culminates in having to do osmething in a southshore cemetary (and mind you, it's pretty cool) but inevitably, to do the quest you have to flick PvP. Not fun.
Also, there's Hammerfall and Refuge Point near each other in Arathi Highlands and...I can't remember the other ones that are close to each other but those are three good examples. If I see a city I don't know, I usually check on one of the websites to see who owns it. ;)

GG wasted time. ;)

Date: 2005-10-29 07:21 pm (UTC)Sounds like a policy I'm going to need to adopt! :P
And ha ha, yes. It was embrassing when people came running at my poor dead body.

Yeah, that's where my homepoint is at the moment.

Date: 2005-10-30 01:31 am (UTC)Especially from my experience in alot of end game activities, doing things like Dynamis with PLD tanks is just so draining. I can't hold hate that well off the second and on weapon skills on eaiser mobs, but it works out because the stuff dies >_>.
