Oct. 31st, 2005 10:04 amThe Penis Cake went around my flist this weekend, and I'm torn between snickering and squicking over it. Most folks call it a not work safe link, but I didn't mind looking at it at work (I'm pretty lax on the whole NWS thing). The link text says it all: it's a cake with a (realistic frosting) penis on it.
Still catching up on Stargate Atlantis, and I really enjoyed the ep shown on Sunday. (People on some planet killing themselves when they hit 25 years old to keep the Wraith away.) Rodney is just so so so horrible with little kids! It's so cute! It made me laugh out loud every time he was on the screen with them. :)
gconnor's post has had me thinking, and I'm suspecting I might get an exercise bike. Half the reason I drag my feet when it comes to walking for exercise is that: 1) I have to do it outside. It's often cold and dark when I go (before work), and when it rains I just totally skip. 2) I don't overly like having people watch me walk. My route takes me by a station where a group of... carpet cleaners? gathers to split up into teams, pick vans, etc, plus there are a bunch of people getting ready for work, walking dogs, etc. Sure I could change my route, but there are people everywhere. I'd really rather exercise alone. It'd be nice to be able to exercise inside, plus if I had the darned bike in the middle of my living room I'd be more inclined to use it (I hope).
The daylight savings time was good for one thing: It wasn't pre-dawn when I went walking this morning. (While I live in a good neighborhood, it still makes me a little worried to go walking around when it's nearly dark out.) And even though it was darned, darned cold out (I don't have a jacket at home, so was out in short sleeves), it was still a nice walk.
For the first year ever, I didn't buy any Halloween candy to hand out. The last three or four years I bought bags, and never had a single kid come by. Hopefully this year will be the same (going to keep my outside light turned off).
I really wish there was a way to access FFXI LS chat while not on the game. Funny how much I miss talking to folks while I'm stuck at work...

Date: 2005-10-31 07:18 pm (UTC)Because, as you know, everyone should see a penis cake at least once in the life.
Want a piece of it? With or without pubic hair?

Date: 2005-10-31 07:34 pm (UTC)It is a shame that MMORPG's don't realise that people you know, actually talk outside the game. I know the Matrix Online or some other MMORPG allows you to use AIM from within the game...somehow, but the closest you can get with FFXI is Friend List Plus.

Date: 2005-10-31 08:27 pm (UTC)I was amazed that when you sign on you don't even show up as online to the people on your friends list. How effective is that?!? I still use it though...

Date: 2005-10-31 10:10 pm (UTC)I suppose I can try to defend the lack of connection with the outside world while you're in game. Matrix Online is based on a world where when you're actually playing, you're "inside" the matrix, and when you're not, you're still in the "game", just not hooked up to the matrix itself. This leads to a whole new level of immersion because like you said, you can use AIM while ingame; you'll even get e-mails about current events that's going on real time.
With FFXI is a little bit harder. Here you have a completely detached universe. How immersed would you be if you're talking to your buddy about the next guys' night out whlie fighting Kirin? I guess that's from a somewhat RP PoV, but I do agree with you, it'd be so much better if there's an external chat for FF. Something like making an IRC channel for each LS that is linked to the LS chat...

Date: 2005-10-31 11:13 pm (UTC)Oh, by the way, the other night I dreamed that I played FFXI. But, having never actually played it, in my dream it was a totally immersive virtually reality sort of deal.
Not the first time I've been hooked on a game I've never played. ^_^;
