It's Friday, I'm in love~ (FFXI)

It's kind of odd (and not Friday), but the more I play RDM the more I like it. I sort of expected it to work the other way: I'd like a job and so start leveling it. I hit RDM37 tonight, which is as high as I can go without my subjob being gimped. So tomorrow it's off to the Dunes to level BLM. May god have mercy on my soul.
I was trying to figure out a way to phrase this without it sounding poorly, but I can't come up with one: I think I have to stop doing things just because people are "nice". A rank 3 DRK (buh?) invited me to a party. Since I knew I didn't want to go to GC, I asked her where. She replied with something like "lol i've never been this level before, but we'll find someplace!". Everyone's new sometime, everyone's got to learn, and so since she seemed really nice and perky, I accepted her invite. Our odd collection of members went to CN, and unfortunately things were just not working out. Apparently locations weren't the only thing she didn't know, she kept inviting people with "creative" subjobs. The worst was a WAR/PLD. Since there could be vaguely valid reasons for the subjob choice, I asked him about it. His reply was the usual "i had nothing else leveled lol what's it matter? this is just the sub to my main job i dont care". Bah. And these sucky people kept going AFK, so we had as much downtime as not.
When someone went AFK for "20-30 minutes" (!!!) the WHM and I left the party and made our own. A lovely NIN tank (I could have kissed him, the WAR/PLD drained all three mages' MP just keeping his worthless ass alive), a rocking little JP Taru THF (I swear, the very best pullers must mainline caffeine -- he just never stopped! He rocked!) and a variety of other good members. The only sucky one was a DRK, which made me sad. (And also made me realize how lucky people are that I don't play WHM anymore. I would so totally let people die if they were stupid enough to deserve it... like the DRK using Souleater when his HP was already in dark orange. Not once or twice, but over and over.)
So all in all it was a good night. I'm highly sad I have to stop leveling RDM to level BLM (blech, gag, I have to go to the Dunes and play a job I don't even want to play!), but hopefully I can get a few levels fast and then return to RDM for a while.
Oh, and lastly: Things are getting more challenging, but I'm enjoying that. It's just annoying when the rest of the party gets in the way of my job. :P WHM, dude, please don't randomly cast Paralyze or you will ruin my rhythm. BLM, don't you see me casting Dia every single fight? Please think twice before tossing out the odd Bio. And when we have a WHM, BLM, and me, please let me do my job? It's nice of you to want to Blind, Poison, etc, but if you do then what the heck am I going to do? Sit on my hands with full MP? And the next person who wakes a link that I'm struggling to keep asleep will get a dagger between the ribs. I've taught more mages the difference between "bt" and "stnpc" in the last few days... (which is ironic, since I only learned how important the difference is in the last short while :P ). (Edit: Eh, this paragraph is just my newish-RDM opinions, I would never attempt to speak for the entire RDM community. For all I know they might all disagree with me and love all those things!)
Man, I can't wait to wear the AF, I'm so totally loving the nearly wait-less party invites, and I can't wait for Refresh! So close to it! :D

Date: 2005-12-29 06:46 am (UTC)Don't be so selfish! Not only do the newbs not know that Dia is overwritten by Bio, but they might want to get their Enfeebling/Dark magic skills up :( Trust me, you'll never be in the position I was in a Boyahda party in the late sixties...
NIN uses Ninjutsu powders (Blind, Paralyze, Slow, and Poison). WHM has VC and is using /SMN. BLM has amazing +hMP equipment, resulting in full MP nearly all the time. WHM Hastes everyone. Sure, I can Refresh, but uh... what else am I supposed to do? Backup nuke? I fell asleep in that party far too many times... didn't know what to do.
I still love the AF to this day.
"i had nothing else leveled lol what's it matter? this is just the sub to my main job i dont care"
I hate people that have this mindset with a burning passion. It might be the sub to one's main job, but at the same time these people are wasting the time of five others... /grr

Date: 2005-12-29 06:15 pm (UTC)Yeah. :) I'm excited about Convert, but a little nervous about it, too. But mostly I just can't wait to try it out! (With stoneskin on and hopefully not mid-battle, of course.)

Ha! It's never been quite that bad for me yet. Sometimes in situations like that I toss out a few nukes just to make my MP fall; I feel guilty if I'm using next to no MP fight after fight! :P

Exactly my reaction, too.

Date: 2005-12-29 07:57 am (UTC)That's me in a good NIN+RDM party XD That's when I start begging for {light} to burst on ^^;;
the DRK using Souleater when his HP was already in dark orange
Maybe he mixed up Souleater with Blood Weapon? He might be trying to drain himself some HP XD
As a WHM, it's pretty hard to level enfeebling when there's a RDM on the scene, what I usually do is get them to let me Dia (since it always sticks) and they can do the rest.
For some odd reason, people spam bio brainlessly as much as they stick to one SC type (cough*distortion*cough). Most of the time, if the tank isn't taking amgwtfbbq damage, it's much much much more efficient to use Dia so everyone hit harder.
What I do now, is to combine [bt] and [stnpc] whereever space permits. It's one more enter key stroke but it works beautifully.

Date: 2005-12-29 06:12 pm (UTC)Hee, yeah. With a NIN tank (or at least a good NIN tank) seems like a RDM and WHM is a little redundant.

Ha! I wish that had been the reason. :D

Date: 2005-12-29 03:05 pm (UTC)I'm looking forward to having time for levelling again, and I'm going to be working on RDM, too. It's currently 19, and at minimum I want to get it to 25 for a coffer hunting sub. I'm hoping I can just go to Qufim rather than try and drag out one last level in the Dunes.

Date: 2005-12-29 06:17 pm (UTC)Hee! But that'd be so cool if I did!
...and you dream about me, baby? Tell me more!

Date: 2005-12-29 06:28 pm (UTC)It wasn't a very long or detailed dream. A bunch of us were standing around and talking. You showed off your new AF; Yosari sputtered that it took him the better part of a year to get that far and you replied that you'd be happy to give him some advice on RDM. ;p I can't remember who else was involved; I think Beanie and Nif were there, and probably some of the others that I've since forgotten.
It's also not the first FFXI dream I've had, but it might have been the first where I *was* Cydori and wasn't just watching the game from an outside perspective.

Yeah, it's best when you are your character instead of just watching it like the game. :D
