What a night. What a wasted night.

The only good thing that happened tonight was that I realized that I'll never need to level BLM, since RDM isn't going to make any progress. (lol angst n drama lol)

Put my flag up and got an invite the same minute. Asked if they had a tank/healer, they did so I accepted. Went to QSC. Fights were really rough. Party was 50-51 (I was the only 52). After each fight we were drained... but we weren't getting 200+/fight, so they wanted to move to crabs in Kuftal. I suggested that it wasn't a great idea, but they all wanted to go. First fight: Nearly full party wipe (except me, yay). I said goodbye and left.

Came back to Jeuno. Put my flag up. Got invited. Asked if he had tank/healer. No. Told him to let me know when he had both. Person replied "lol you speak jap". Buh? I had been speaking in English, not using the autotranslator. Idiot. Eventually he gets a tank, invites me. I asked if he had a healer. Nope. Time passes, and he got a healer, so invited me again. NIN tank was 51, DDs were 51-52. WHM and BLM were 54. They wanted to go to Kuftal. I wished them luck and said goodbye.

Three hours of partying gave me (with band) 2K XP. Sigh/grrr. A whole night wasted on this, all for 2K XP.

I think I've spotted a trend though: Both party leaders today, and the leaders of my last four really awful parties, have all been DRGs. I wonder if DRGs are so desperate for parties they'll put anything together, just so they get XP?

I know some people get good parties. I hear tell of getting 5K per hour. I know good random parties exist. I'd really like to experience one some day...

Edit, an hour later: No matter how sucky the XP has been lately, at least there's one good thing: So many invites! It's too late for me to party, but I've gotten three since taking my flag down. That's a total of five invites in one night! *boggle*

Query...ies: Can you put together a party yourself? As in, do whatever you have to do and track down party-wanting players yourself? That way you can (possibly?) choose your own people?

(Also... why does playing on your own not work?)

I'm going to assume you don't play FFXI. No job can solo monsters that give EXP that's worth your time aside from a Beastmaster or an exceptionally skilled Dragoon pre-60. The critters are just way too hard, even the 'easy' ones that give like 15xp a kill. FFXI is NOT solo-friendly by a long shot. v_v Which sucks royally.

Yeah, that would be the best way to get around this, but putting your own party together is a pain in the ass. :P In general, the only people who are willing to go through the work/pain of that are the ones that no one will invite -- thus they make their own parties because that's the only way they'll get one.

(Also... why does playing on your own not work?)

Everything about the game is 'teamwork'. For lord knows what reason, S-E doesn't believe that anyone should be able to do much of anything alone. In very, very, very few cases does leveling on your own work (not after level 10, anyway).

Most DRGs aside from me and the DRGs on our shell: Yes. :P And those same DRGs turn around and wonder why everyone hates dragoons. DUH. 9__9;;

Last night I was tempted to say 'I'm never accepting an invite from a DRG again', but the only thing that kept me from that was because we have good ones on the LS, so I know there are some good ones around. Somewhere...

Last night was just... weird. *I* got two invites. 53 DRG, no flag up, no green dot next to my name to indicate that I was even interested in xp'ing.

And, enh. I think levelling DRG got more popular after the update. While I like the changes, you've suddenly got these really snobby "old school" DRGs who are all, "oh, everyone's levelling it nowadays." And they say it to *me*. Gosh, guys, I've only been a DRG for over a year now, and it's only been my goal since day one of playing the game. -_-; Excuse *me* if I'm "only" level 53.

Eheh. Sorry for the ranting; I just needed to get it off my chest. (You can insert comments about my chest here, if so desired. ;p)

For me it's been 2yrs of playing this month... I hit DRG60 over 6 months ago and haven't gone any higher since. DRG53 is a great accomplishment and you should be proud. ^^

('Course im sitting at 59 now due to some overzealous soloing...)

I wonder if DRGs are so desperate for parties they'll put anything together, just so they get XP? Sadly I'm sure there are some. I think that's where alot of the negative stigma against DRG comes from. Me, personally, would rather solo EP exp than put together a party that didn't work. (will prob end up with the same exp both ways ; ;) You just have to know that there are very very good DRGs out there. Once you party with them, it makes the others stick out quite noticably. (a.k.a. 'jump immediately followed by 'high jump' is their first action ^^)

Yeah. Problem is, I've only been dealing with bad ones for the last couple weeks. :/ Hopefully that will change sooner or later...

Actually, I do sometimes Jump/High Jump when xp'ing, but:

1) it's usually mostly to build TP
2) our PLD has already established hate
3) I've been working with my group for almost 37 levels now, so we're pretty used to each other's playing styles

But seriously, I'm always looking to improve, so any advice you've got will be gladly accepted. ^_^

Yeah... I was mostly referring to the ones that are ready for SC on the incoming mob and Highjump right before being somone's trick partner...

I also think my view on this is mostly DRG/WAR... I think DRG/THF is a tad more specialized and has a higher tendancy to be more aware of hate...

Whoops. ^^; Yeah, those guys need to watch it.

I'm also DRG/WAR, so any advice you have would work for me. ^^ I enjoy having stuff like Berserk and Double Attack in my bag of tricks, plus more HP and defense. That and I don't really want to level THF. ^_^;

Everytime I read your posts about your frustrations with stupid people on FFXI, it trigges a desire to play the game just so I could possibly party with you so you could have a non-idiot to rely on.

Then I remember I have no free time. :)

But, the thought is there!

That'd be cool! The game rocks when you have a few people you can always party with, a group you know is skilled and mature and non-stupid.

Thanks for the thought. :)

Oh yeah, Thistle, I have a DRK-related question for you.

Do you remember when you started levelling Greatsword? Did you even bother doing it before you started partying? Because I'm about to start working on DRK, and the first GS I can use is the Deathbringer at level 5. However, I don't think that -6 Defense is such a good idea while soloing. Can I just go with a Scythe until I start partying, or should I be working on my GS too?

(For the record, I *think* that when I was levelling WAR, I didn't bother with Greataxe until I got into parties, and then I was able to catch it up fairly easily.)

Both scythe and GS are a pain in the ass to skill. Yay the slowest weapons on the game. -.- I'd use whatever keeps you alive best. You're going to need to join skillup parties (lots of them) in later levels, so just keep yourself alive now and worry about skilling a little later.

Okee. Probably go with Scythe for all my soloing and worry about skilling GS later. Thanks! ^^
