From today's update: "Players can experience the main story of Treasures of Aht Urhgan by playing through the new missions."

I thought there weren't going to be more missions? I thought we didn't have to go through this CoP hoop-jumping again. *sigh*

"The number of new areas will be comparable to that of past expansions, but the formidable monsters at each location will try your courage and adventuring spirit like never before!"

Low level content? We don't need no steenkin low level content!

"We have already announced that players can reach the Empire of Aht Urhgan by ship from Mhaura, but please keep in mind that certain requirements must be fulfilled before the player is allowed to travel to the Near East."

The more they say that, the more I worry we're talking about more Promy-level hoop-jumping. *sigh* Please please let it be just those stupid Wildcat quests...

When RL is annoying, I have a harder time putting up with FFXI foo. :/ I hope RL stops being stressy soon.

My sudden lack of excitement about the expansion pack is based almost totally on RL (non-game) crap. Wait a few days and I'll probably be back to gushing about it all again.

I said it before, and I'll say it again: I only have one reason to be geeked about the new expansion.

Chocobo raising/breeding/racing! *_* *pets chocobos*

Problem is, the chocobos you breed can only be used in racing, you can't ride them for day to day stuff. That seems somewhat silly to me... If I own a chocobo, if I raised it, I want to be able to use it all the time. :/

They did say they'd consider making them ridable if enough people wanted it. And given everyone wants one of their own to ride... Well, they'd be horribly stupid not to implement it at some point. But then, it is SE. I'm taking my giggles where I can get 'em, and I'm the type that enjoys virtual pets, even if their of no good use. XD

I strongly suspect that them making them rideable if enough people ask for it is BS. I bet it'll go back to the PS2 limitations. :/

Yes! I'd kill for a little kitten or dog or bird or something, even if it just stayed in your MH. (Fish are boring.) But imagine a WoW-type pet! One that followed you around all the time! Or if BSTs were like Hunters! *sniffles and dreams his old dreams*

They never said there wouldn't be missions, just that they wouldn't be level capped. The original game has missions (country rank), Zilart has missions, Promathia has missions. It's part of the point of the different expansions ;x

They also said expressly they were aiming this expansion at high level players.

You sure they never said there wouldn't be missions? I'm pretty certain they did (because I was happy to hear about it).

They also said expressly they were aiming this expansion at high level players.

They've only just started saying that. Earlier on, they claimed there would be stuff aimed at lower level folks, too.

Missions are really cool to me, the only thing is they should make them all soloable, then I am sure they would be enjoyable for everyone. Since they are not level capped maybe that's the case? One thing that's awesome about missions besides the cool story and rewards is that usually they act as a filter for people like gilsellers etc. You see a full PT of level 70 rank 1, a good guess is they are all gilsellers, etc.

From what I understand they have most of the new content for low levels, meaning you can find mobs challenging and for xp if you are lower level but if you are higher lvl you can just chill and farm etc. They then added cool stuff mostly aimed at high levels like assault (and maybe besieged).

All that sounds pretty cool to me. If you make something too easy to get, like getting to new areas or getting new jobs, everyone will get them right away, even people like gilsellers, jerks, idiots will start flooding the new areas and jobs and possibly ruin it for you.

Yeah. Usually I don't mind having to earn things on-game, but at the moment the game is offering me too little fun and too much frustration for me to continue my usual argument that earning things is better. :/

Ah, that would work for me!

Missions are a given with any Final Fantasy expansion. RoZ only locked off one area behind missions, namely sky. Access to Kazham was possible through an easy quest. The thing about CoP was that it locked off a number of the expansion areas and features until you completed a number of missions. I'm hoping this isn't the case with ToAU, but, just in case, I will not be pre-ordering.

The last point is moot since it seems the PC version is not being distributed in Canada anyway. :P

Well, I can't find it for pre-order on Amazon.ca or dvdboxoffice. They only have PS2.

Ye local ebgames said they're only getting the PS2 version. But the people who work there are idiots so I'll try again another day.
