I have very bad potato luck. (RL and FFXI)
Apr. 1st, 2006 09:48 pmPerhaps my relationship with potatoes is not meant to be. Yesterday I picked up two at Safeway (after the ones from TJ being bad), and today I wished them up so I could cook them. Oddly, under the dirt they were green. Not fuzzy-green but discolored green. I asked around, and the opinions ranged from they would taste funny to the green being poisonous.
I cooked one up and was planning to just eat the half that wasn't green, but the whole idea of poison potatoes killed my appetite and I ended up just throwing them out.
This cooking stuff sure is hard!

FFXI: Long long long long but very good day. Eadwyn and I went to the Jungles to level NIN. Started at 25 and through a series of four parties, ended up at 28! I'm halfway to 29! Yay!
Two parties were unmemorable, one was god-awful bad (600 XP in going nearly two hours, ending in death for all). One party was really really good, other than the time the otherwise good leader went insane and pulled a gob instead of a mandy and killed us all. Luckily for me I was able to 2hr my death both times, so I lost no XP.
Unfortunately we had the same bad WHM in two of the parties: She did not know that you could cure people to wake them up, she was unable to move out of range of Mandy sleep (seriously, she didn't avoid one sleep in hours of partying, even when instructed), and worst of all: After the party wiped and a number of people asked her why she didn't use Benediction, she asked us what that was. 9.9 Idiot. She was a WHM 28, too.
Nine hours of NINing left me braindead (but happy), so I did some crafting. Got goldsmithing from 18 -> 19.5 nearly for free. I can take it to 21 on the same item, so that'll be 3 GS levels for almost nothing! (Using crystals I have stored, I desynthed a couple things, made my own ingots, and had enough desynthed stuff left over to more than cover my original purchase cost.)
Oh, while in the Jungle, we kept running into the most disturbing BST I've ever seen. He worked with a sheep pet all day and kept saying things like:

"Come to me", "protect me", all with "my love" and a heart, all talking about his sheep. o.O (All his macros had /say in them, so we got to see these things over and over and over again.)
And speaking of alternate forms of love, man do I love my gun! Bang! You're dead, Mandy! ...or you would be if I could actually hit you. Unfortunately, even with macroing in my HQ +racc rings before I shoot, I didn't hit much. With my katanas I hit for 0-13 on average, and with my gun I was hitting for 50-65, so when a hit landed it was helpful (I could tell the difference in hate), but the problem was I couldn't hit. I'd like to look into more racc stuff to macro in, but the problem is space. Even with a 60 slot gobbiebag, I just don't have that much room. (I started partying today at 50/60...)
Tomorrow I have to get up early for Copycat KS30 runs (zzzzzzzz, I'm sleepy already) and then NPC XPing! By the time my away-from-FFXI vacation rolls around, I'll be needing it! :D

Date: 2006-04-02 07:51 am (UTC)Or! you can boil them! then mash em and add some garlic powder and butter~ or chop em up into quarters (depending on the size, I recently did that with red potatoes) and boil em until mostly done and then drain and add butter and garlic and chopped basil, etc. The possibilities are limited only to what you can come up with. ^^ Steaming is another good option, but better with red potatoes. Regular russets seem to be better with baking/mashing/frying/sauteing.
