Some screenshots from my last day before vacation, and some FF12 scans from a Japanese magazine.

I was bored and killing time, so I popped Mycophile. He was easy to kill, but didn't drop anything. Stupid mushroom.

My beloved Woman ([livejournal.com profile] whomeh) needed some help killing orcs, so Des and I went out. We ran into and killed the Orcish Warlord. Wheee! Yay NMs! Unfortunately he didn't drop much of anything:

We found a coffer key on some orc, so Des popped a coffer and got something really nice (I think). I had to log off soon after that, so I'm not sure if it was worth as much as we had thought it was.

FF12 foo cross-posted from my post on FI:

(Edit: Man, tis magazine has pages and pages of info on the upcoming expansion pack. Tons of info, and I can read so little. Charts of NPCs, areas, prices (of something, I don't know what), new items, pos's in zones, etc.

Looks like something will cost a million gil, it looks like someone pays that much to the NPC Sagheera.)

I bought a JP magazine called PlayStation because it had ff12 on the cover. It had 30 or 40 pages of info on it, but unfortunately all in Japanese. Here are some scans of the more interesting pictures:

The races you can play, I assume. None of them really capture my interest.

Three of the little... rabbit? moogle? things.

Airships? Some kind of flying ship things.

A full page scan showing battles, mobs, and other stuff. The thing that looks like a chess or checker board has about 10 pages dedicated to it, so I assume it's something important.

Some characters, including another shot of the bunny girls. I didn't find one single picture of them sexy in the least little bit. They look more like freaks than anything else to me.

This looked pretty cool. Realistic dinosaurs in the game? Maybe fighting on chocobo-back?

I have no clue who these two are, but they scared me. A lot.

Another whole-page scan showing assorted stuff.

Oh, really? Huh. Well Woman is a rich woman then! She'll have to support me~. (Hmm, or maybe Des ended up with that and Woman got the earring...)

Those SSes are cool! Are you an FF fan or FF11 your first?
If you want to scan some of the expansion images I can get my Japanese friend to translate them.

FFX was my first love. I tried to play some of the earlier ones, but then FFXI arrived in the mail and ate my brain.

If you want to scan some of the expansion images I can get my Japanese friend to translate them.

Thanks, but scanning things is a serious bitchkitty. The scanner only works with my old computer, and the old computer refuses to talk to the new one. So I have to boot up the old one (takes more than five minutes!!) and scan them (sloooowwww) and then save them to a disk and carry that to the new computer.

I almost never scan anything because of that. :P

Does the old computer at least have a USB port? Flash drives are pretty cheap these days.

Hmmm. I don't think so, but next time I crawl down into the dust I'll check. That or I'll just buy a scanner (and a printer!) for the new computer.

"New computer" ha ha. It's like four years old now. :P

FF10 is not a bad place to start the series, IMHO. ^_~ It's my second favorite out of all the FF games (not counting FFXI, which is its own animal). Love the characters, love the world, *really* love the battle system where you can swap out members at any time. I wish more RPGs had that feature.

My favorite is FF6, but I'll freely admit that it's tinged with a heavy dose of nostalgia. Considiering that it's nearly 12 years old, it's not going to compare graphics-wise, but I still love the characters and the story.

And Mycophile isn't a 100% drop? Poo. I need to go fight it sometime. It's not so much that I need the drop anytime soon but that I've had mushrooms sitting in one of my mules' safes for a long time now, and I need to go clear out some space. Luckily I have enough 'shrooms to pop it twice if necessary.

I really liked that FFX was turn-based. I didn't have to push buttons fast to win (I'm not good at that sort of thing).

Nope, apparently it's not a 100% drop. :( But if you want company fighting it, poke me sometime!

In most of the other FF games, you can set the battle system to "Wait," so that when someone's turn comes up, you can take as much time as you want going through menus and not have to worry about being attacked.

I really am sad that they didn't keep the FFX battle system around longer. X-2 went back to a more standard FF system, although you could at least change jobs in mid-battle (complete with henshin sequence!)

FF12's system looks like an offline version of FFXI, from what I've seen (and the very brief demo that I played). Apparently you only directly control one party member; I assume you can give the others general AI guidelines. Like FFXI, you see enemies and you fight them right on the same screen. It's different, and I'm reserving judgement until I've played a bit more, as opposed to the legions of people who have already decided that it sucks. ;p

Ooooh, I hadn't known about the wait system, that would be handy.

Yeah, as far as I can tell, FF12 looks like FFXI offline. Could be interesting! :)

About FF12

Dinosaurs in the games are regular mobs akin to T-Rex from FFVIII, you don't fight on Chocobo (that I've seen yet), and I've seen nothing to imply you would. The "checker board" is actually the form of growth; an evolution of the sphere grid. It's more or less how you level up and get new skills, and improve the others. It's called the License Board and here is more information (Link: http://ff12trans.pbwiki.com/LicenseBoard). Airships are very prevelant in the game, and a large part of it surrounds Airship piracy and etc. So far I haven't had a single non-Human in my party, but that isn't to say you DON'T play as the others.

Sorry to post, I saw this through Camdon.

Ah, thanks for the information! No need to apologize for posting. :)

I hadn't played most of the older games, so I hadn't encountered the T-Rex yet.

It's called the License Board

Ah, that makes sense! "License" was the one English word in the whole thing.
