Can't sleep, expansion pack will eat me!

How's this for sad? My first thought upon waking up this morning was 'Oooh, expansion pack today! Yay!'. Heh.

So yep, I did sleep! Not enough, but five hours is still better than four hours, and if you add the two nights together then I have a whole night's worth of sleep! Heh.

Work is way too busy. I need to concentrate and get lots done today, but my mind is being distracted by something (expansion pack, expansion pack, expansion pack). Hmm, wonder what that something could be (expansion pack, expansion pack, expansion pack).

Huh, I thought I had more to write about then this, but I guess not. Okay, on to work foo!

Oh, and I moved my character to Jeuno this morning, so as soon as I get the pack installed I can turn in my key and head out to the new areas!

*tries not to hit refresh on the UPS tracking page every minute* I left a note on my door for them to leave the package, they better do that! I can't be home to sign for it!

EBgames I believe. The box is in transit, so for all I know it could be delivered today. UPS claims tomorrow though. :(

I kind of hope there is some nm on the boat. :) That's what makes it fun! Especially since you know there's going to be a zillion people on it.

Ah, EB is where I ordered it from, too. Supposedly (*checks the page yet again*) it's due to arrive today. I'll probably go home for lunch, then if it's there already I can start the process and let it run through all the checks while I'm at work (hopefully, sometimes you have to click 'ok' at each stage 9.9). Of course if it's not there I'll spend the whole hour twitching. :P

I thought you weren't excited about the expansion? XD I'm wasting time until I get to go pick it up at the 'local' Gamestop (hah, the closest one is a 25 minute drive away... I'm not a hick, I swear :E). But for now... {Time for work!} T_T;

I know, I was thinking about that as I made the post, too. :P To be honest, I think it's more of an excitement about not being the last person to get the pack than the actual content. (And yeah, I know even if I got the pack next week I still wouldn't be the last, but I don't want everyone else to get something before I can have it, too!) It'll be interesting to see the new areas, but mostly I just want the pack because it's mine and I paid for it and everyone else has it! (Shhhh, everyone else does have it already! I know! La la la la, I can't hear you!)

Out of curiosity, how do expansions work in FFXI? Do you just get the new areas and the ability to create the new jobs while the other players are forced to stare at your sexy new COR? How does SE handle people without the expansion?

I only ask this because I play a slightly less official online game, and there, if you don't update obsessively, upon reaching one of the new items or classes you crash and burn. I doubt SE works that way, though.

You can't access the areas, but you can acquire gear so long as it's sellable I believe. There is always a downloadable update that goes with the CDs so that items and such do show up even if you don't have the expansion. People get an error message should they attempt to enter expansion zones.

I've never played without the current expansions, but I think you're correct: The people without them can't get to any of the new areas, and while they can see new jobs/armor, they can't use them themselves. (The armor part seems like it must be a little complex. Maybe something flags it and they can never buy/own/get it as a drop?).

Yeah, no crashing involved. They have to download a big update so they can see all the stuff, they just can't use it without buying the expansion.
