I'm going to have to write down Frank's FFXI name otherwise I'll never remember how to spell it. :P

Miss Klean and hubby-to-be, I put together some info for you~!

You two probably aren't eating food while XPing yet, right? Food is a wonderful thing in FFXI! It raises various stats, increases abilities, etc! As low level melees you could eat something simple (like meat jerky), but as you get higher you'll want to use different foods. Here's a page with all the foods and effects.

By the way, like many other things, meat jerky is sold by vendors. Check the AH prices and then check the vendors (here's a list of them) to see which is cheaper. :)

While I don't recommend Alla as a site for much, its list of equipment by job is pretty darned handy. Plus you can click the item and see info on it, where it's sold, etc, too!

Now, how does a new person go about making money? Of course there's the easy way: Save all the drops you get and wait till you have a full stack, then sell them on the AH. But there are tons of other ways! I mentioned to Chia that you can buy things from a vendor and sell them for profit on the AH (you just need to do a little legwork first to see what sells for more). Crafting is another way, a rather good way.

In Windy you have three guilds: Bonecrafting, clothcrafting, and cooking. Cooking is a big moneymaker and I would recommend working on that once you can (especially if you ever intend to level a mage job). Next to cooking, clothcraft is great for making money. Bone? Not so much.

You'll need to get a list of recipes (Alla has a list here). Pick out something that's low level (4-ish levels above whatever you are now is safe), and make sure the ingredients are something you can easily get. For example:

Level 1 clothcrafting: Yagudo Bead Necklace + wind crystal = grass thread. Until you hit level 1 cloth, you can skill on this! Plus necklaces do not stack in your inventory, but threads do, so you'll save space!

But don't stop there!

Level 4 clothcrafting: Grass Thread x3 + earth crystal = Grass Cloth.

---

Oh, another basic thing: Make sure to talk to the guards on either side of the exit out of town before you go XPing. Have them cast signet on you (it'll make a little icon in the upper left corner). With that, the mobs you kill will drop these crystals you need for crafting! (Plus you'll earn CP, Conquest Points, but they're not important until later.)

---

At some point this weekend I should grab you two for a trip. We'll need to run "around the world" to get you a couple of teleport crystals (they'll make it easier for you guys to move). Soon (once you hit level 18, I think) you can join us on Mondays (if you're free) for a LS event: Eco Warrior! Easy, fun, free XP and 5,000g! Having at least one of the teleport crystals (the closest one to Windy) will make attending much easier for you.

Hmm, I'm probably forgetting stuff I wanted to tell you, but this is a start. Poke me if you have questions!

YAY! I can start the clothcrafting stuff -- I've already got two Yagudo Bead Necklaces and Windcrystals, and an Earth Crystal. All of which I stashed away last night in the hopes that I would find what they're used for. Gura (call him Gura -- it' makes things easier!) dabbled in bonecrafting lat night!

The XPing thing I got already thanks to Whomah and her friend Zeelie, so I'm good on that. And now I have a goal! Hit 18. Hehe. Only, um... eleven levels to go. X_X

Yag necklaces also can be used in some Windy turn-in quest, but I forget where. Plus they sell for a good price at the AH, so Yags are really a good thing to farm/XP on.

(call him Gura -- it' makes things easier!)

Ha ha, will do.

The XPing thing I got already thanks to Whomah and her friend Zeelie, so I'm good on that.

Yay! Did you know that Woman is my girlfriend~? We've been out on dates and I asked her to marry me! *bouncie*

Thistle, you've asked lots of people to marry you. Including me. ;p

(My answer is still very much no, by the way. ^_~)

Well, true... but Woman is the only one who doesn't say no!

Buy low sell high. AH market at its best. HOwever alot of people already do that so there will be times you will not be able to get cheap items and then sell them for more (ie Guild camped items).

I've found that cooking is a steady money maker. Coupled with fishing, you can meke pretty good profit at high levels. On Valefor if you can make Insect Ball (used to catch moat carp and gold carp) you will net a nice profit.

1 stack (12) of insect ball requires:

1 earth crystal (?? gil)
1 little worm (3 gil)
1 million corn (44 gil)
1 distilled water (11 gil)

If you make 12 stacks of 12 insect ball, the total cast of materials is less than 2k (but dependent on the earth crystal price). Now if you use all these insect balls to fish in windy, I've gotten roughly 2 stacks of gold carp (sold to NPC for 300 or guild NPC for 337) and 9-10 stacks of moat carps can be sold for 10k+. Of course this is all on Valefor so your mileage will vary on your server.

Gold carp = 300x12x2 = ~8k
Moat carp = 10k/stack x 10 = 100k

People will buy moat carps because of the Lu Shang's fishing quest in Sandy. They will also buy moat carps to make carp sushi. The only initial investment you'll need would be a sturdy fishing rod. And if you can distinguish between items that will break your rod and items that won't, then you'll be able to use that rod almost forever.

Ha! I totally forgot about fishing! I hate the new system so I think my brain tries to block it out of my mind as much as possible.

Listen to this comment! It's good advice. :)

Bah, I don't check LJ over the weekend and missed this. But Thistle, Gura and Khene need some lessons in SCing o.ob I explained the principles to Gura, but seeing it and practing it really makes it click.

Um, could do Burning Blade or Red Lotus Blade => Gust Slash for practing with Khere. (Assuming the person teaching them opened and had a sword... Could do this on BLU or something.)

Burning Blade or Red Lotus Blade => Combo will work too for Gura.

The three of you could go out to the Canyon on beat on Dhalmel or something for Healing Wind... :3 [just an idea]

Sounds like a plan to me! I want to teach them about macros, too. THF Klene is going to need them sooner rather than later.
