A gilly day! (FFXI)
Jul. 16th, 2006 10:11 pmI woke up this morning and said to myself "Boy, I have too much money!". And what's tbe best way to waste money? Why, to level leathercraft! Went from 86 to 89 for a little over a million gil and about seven hours of synthing. (All that time was needed to make the skilling as cheap as possible. I synthed about 120 hides to leather, then the leather into one item, then that item into another item, and THEN could synth for skill.) Was nearly a total loss of money -- I ended up with about 50 items I vendored for 4K each. So that's about 200,000g back on over 1,000,000g spent. Isn't leathercrafting fun?
*rereads* Isn't that just totally insane? I plotted out how to get the next few levels: I'd either have to spend about 30K on EACH synth or use gold chains (which sell for 2.2M per stack, I'd need one chain per synth). Each item I make would then be vendored or AHed very slowly for a very low price. Compare that to something like alchemy where you can make profit nearly all the way to 100. ...why am I doing this again? It's not like I even ever do leathercrafting for profit, it's always alchemy or woodworking. Bah, I really am crazy...
The whole day was a blast from the past: Not only did I level leather after more than a year and a half of not touching it, I actually fished for skill/profit today! Fished for about 3 hours and got .1 skill up! Isn't it nice that they changed the fishing system to give faster skill ups? And profit? About 75K... not for any fish caught, but for breaking my rods. (Broken sells for twice as much as whole.) I only caught one fish the whole time. Sole were 100% impossible for me to wear out, I just released those. Three-eyed fish didn't bite much today, I caught only one! (Though they're probably what broke my rods.)
I guess that sounds like a bad day, but it really wasn't. Leather may be nothing but a moneysink, but it did feel nice to make a little progress again.
Oh, and server-wide news: This weekend, Midgar was invaded by gilsellers. Massive groups of them (XPing in 12+ person groups o.O ), no subjobs, starter/poor armor. When we did the XP static on Saturday they were there in the Desert with us (swarms of them!), and while I was fishing today there were hordes of them. They were very very odd:
While fishing, lightning weather happened and an ele spawned by me. I grabbed it, and the gilsellers came and circled around me. Really, really close, as in touching me-close. I hadn't realized what they were yet, because I don't check folks. One of them kept saying "you be careful, must be careful" and like that. It seemed cute! Then they kept curing me... cure ones. I was level 75, and the ele couldn't touch me. o.O
Once the ele was dead, they all started asking me for money. At that point I /checked and searched them and realized what they were. Bah.
One group of them with me, circled around me. o.O I was trying to see if I could have some fun with them, but they didn't play along.
Anyone on Midgar, how amusing is this?

Ha ha ha, he speaks Chinese! How surprising is that? (Anyone not on our server: Coldlionfish is one of our oldest gilsellers.)
And lastly, a new NM! Sharp-Eared Ropipi! I can't take credit for finding him on my own: Des said he was up, so I grabbed a bird and headed over to claim him. Dropped the ribbon, yay! Added it to my rare/ex pile of stuff I'll never use. :D

Date: 2006-07-18 03:49 am (UTC)It's very annoying. One group has all names that end in ----girl, another group looks like all autogenerated names for tarutaru (girls). They got to level 29 without subjobs, and got level 1 subjobs after that. All rank1 and the ones I saw all from bastok or /anon.
On a totally different topic, there was an entry a few days ago you deleted or something, and I wanted to reply to it. You were mentioning in passing that some show was too riske' with girls making seductive faces and gyrating hips, and that you were wondering 'what about the children!'
In that regard, I really don't think children are impacted by it much, it's like a lot of innuendos in the dialogue of something like the simpsons, that just would go undetected for the most part unless they were already mature enough to understand it and not be disturbed by it.
Here is an example:

"Take a look at the picture first...
So, what did you see?
Now proceed and read below to find an explanation of what you really saw.
I'm sure you will find this very interesting."
Research has shown that young children cannot identify the intimate couple because they do not have prior memory associated with such scenario. What they will see are the nine dolphins.

Date: 2006-07-18 04:30 am (UTC)Oh, we have a small group like that, too. Blankgirl is the one off the top of my head. Wonder if it's the same gilseller group? Maybe they have all --girl names across all the servers.

Sorry about that. I've had things in my LJ (even flocked posts) tossed about on LS, and it's made me more skittish about things. I changed my mind on keeping it a public (or even locked) post.

That's too funny! I can't see dolphins at all. (Oooh, wait, now I do. In the dark parts!)
