Here thar be pirates! (FFXI)
Aug. 6th, 2006 09:56 pmHigh points of the day were re-doing the ToAU NM battle and doing the BC battle. For the NM battle the three of us joined forces with three random JP folks, but was still a close fight (WTF? 6 75 level folks (PLD, WHM, BLM, DRK, BST, and something else), and our tank still fell into the red? On a mob that others have duoed with ease?) That set the tone for the day.
We won the BC, but by the skin of our teeth. It was seriously embarrassing, but in reviewing the video I don't see any big reason why it went so badly. We were perfectly fine when the captain and five others spawned, but things went downhill fast then. I think from now on I'm going to go DRK/NIN for everything important. If I had had shadows, I wouldn't have died. (Tank died, I got hate, ate a WS, died. Shadows could have prevented that!) I have no idea at all why I thought I should go DRK/THF. Our DRG (<3 Aurian) killed the captain herself while the rest of us ate dirt, so it counted as a win no matter how it felt.
Depressingly, Naja apparently thinks all DRKs should wear what I wear, because she accepted my clothing right off the bat. That made me even more sad, because I had wanted to have to play around and try on all different things to see what she would like on DRKs.
Other than that mission stuff, all I did was more crafting and muling. Mules are stuffed with crap again, and nothing is selling fast enough.
Digging sucked ass. Seriously. I must have used four times the usual greens, yet still I had to go elsewhere to finish getting my 100 items. (Used ~70 stacks of greens in the Jungle, over the space of three hours. Kept taking breaks and coming back to try to catch a window with few diggers.) At one point I burnt 30 stacks of greens and got only 2 bone chips, but I was so angry and annoyed that I wasn't about to go elsewhere. Very stupid, yes.
So all in all, the day could have gone a hell of a lot better. Bah.

Date: 2006-08-07 05:16 am (UTC)Given we haven't worked together as a team in months, you and I have only EXPed our main jobs once in that time, and I don't think D and Ead has EXPed at all, and I know Niala and Chipoka haven't.... I think we did damn good for how rusty we all were. XD If we were a finely oiled machine that worked together on a daily basis like some of the HNM shell teams that were posting how easy it was (with NIN and /NIN abounding), I would have called that embarassing. But I think we did fine for how little the six of us actually go out and kill things.
Besides, Gessho was giving some serious hate problems at the end of the first round, which shoved us down at the bottom of the stairs, right where we didn't want to be. But oh well, we recovered! Kinna! Penta Thrust FTW~

Date: 2006-08-07 05:47 am (UTC)I agree with Aur though. We didn't plan, hell I was highly feverish, and we just haven't worked together in months. :)

Date: 2006-08-07 02:46 pm (UTC)I saw that! He was doing the NIN poison tool!
Strange thing, I had read that if he died, we'd lose the BC (which is why I commented on his health being low at one point), but he died before it ended and we still won...

Yeah... That feels so strange though, because we used to be such a good, tight team.
Oh well, we won! Hopefully future mission battles won't be harder than this one (ha ha).

Date: 2006-08-07 03:43 pm (UTC)See, Yagudo are out to get us and can't be trusted! XE We would have done just fine if he wasn't being stupid!

Date: 2006-08-07 05:05 pm (UTC)Maybe you should try to hook Gessho and Kee up! "Kill" two birds with one stone, get both out of your hair~!

Date: 2006-08-07 02:54 pm (UTC)This morning (while in the shower~) I was thinking about that. It's strange, but it's true. And sad, too. I used to feel like I was a good DRK, now I feel like I'm playing someone else's character -- like I don't have the experience of getting it to 75.
"Amusingly" in the middle of the BC I said to myself 'I wish I was here as BRD, I'd be so much better if I were'. Plus there's the whole 'utter inability of a DRK to keep itself alive'. I almost two houred before dying, but against undead it would have gotten me hate and nothing else.
So mostly I was disappointed with myself, and until this morning I hadn't really thought about everyone else being as rusty as I am. I suppose we could count ourselves lucky to have beaten it at all. :P Go go go DRG power!

Date: 2006-08-07 11:19 am (UTC)The BC was very easy for me, we just let gessho decide who to wake up, and attacked that one. I used 100fists on the captain so he died very fast before the rest of the crew could really do anything, and i had shadows up which always help. I really like the settings in that BC, I even used it in my practice video while choosing what soundtracks to use for mnk/drk, because it's so dark.. By the way, I can't figure out why on my LJ the previous post now shows up so far down the page... Do you know what it could be? I tried everything i could think of but I am not a big LJ expert...

Date: 2006-08-07 02:44 pm (UTC)I do sometimes wonder that. Sometimes I think I should just stop posting about digging, because Joe Random Player will wander by and go "Hey! I can make money, too! I'll start digging!" and so I could be just shooting myself in the foot. But the thing is, I see my LJ as a journal for me, so I can look back in a couple years and see what I was doing. So I'd like to keep it as "honest", accurate as possible.

I totally loved the BC! That you could run around on the ship? So cool!

The only thing I know that affects that is the time set when you make the post (it shows up at the top of the window). If that time is accurate, I'd guess it was just LJ being buggy. LJ is endlessly buggy and often shows odd behavior like that.

Date: 2006-08-07 03:48 pm (UTC)Well I meant the white space in between, you only see it when you look at my entries from my own LJ.
It's exactly as far as the side index goes, maybe it's normal and I never noticed because my entries are usually longer, but it's weird to have so much empty white space...

Date: 2006-08-07 07:11 pm (UTC)Before there would be this huge white space below the first entry and above the second entry from the top, buuut like I said that sorta fixed it so I guess that's good enough, thanks for checking it to help me troubleshoot though, now I wish I didn't try to hack-fix it so quickly.. it's like when you try to replicate a problem in front of someone who could fix it, and you can't, and they give you that condescending look =P

Date: 2006-08-07 09:56 pm (UTC)Strange, I wasn't seeing that at all. All the entries had the same (almost no) space between them.
Oops sorry I sort of fixed it, by making the number of viewable entries per page 10 instead of 20 as it was before
Interesting. I know my flist view is set to 50, but I'm not sure what my main page view is -- whatever the default is, most likely.
Well, glad it's fixed! :)

Date: 2006-08-07 05:25 pm (UTC)I watched the video and I think a large part of the difference between when I did it and you guys' run was just pure luck. The captain *didn't* do the AoE WS on us and I think we followed Gessho on the first part. I had a lot of fun doing it and I'm sorry it didn't work out as well for you guys. (But yes, Aurian *does* rock. I wanna be like her when I grow up! ^^)
I really, really want to continue with the story, but we'll just have to wait a couple months. Still, it's not so bad to be able to complete all of the missions available and then have to wait a bit for the next part as opposed to CoP where I've been working on it gradually for the past year and some months. -_-; (Not a gripe about my group. I love doing missions with them. This is purely a complaint about CoP missions. ;p)

Date: 2006-08-07 06:29 pm (UTC)It's fun that we don't know for sure! So much if the game is so set in stone, but we're still feeling lots of the new stuff

Ah, that's good to know!

Date: 2006-08-07 07:17 pm (UTC)When you talk to her without the right body armor, she gives you something like 8 options in a menu. They are not really options though, more like cutscenes you can watch in any order, and I recommend watching all of them.
In those, she dresses in complete gears of the ones she allows. Adaman, RDM JSE wise set, palh. yigit and the other set from assault, homam, and some other ones I forget about. After that just wear any body piece from those shown, and you can wear anything you want for gloves, legs, head etc, as long as you also unequip your weapon. I just used Pahl. body and the rest was all random.

Date: 2006-08-07 09:57 pm (UTC)For the gear to enter the palace, only the body piece of the armor matters.
Yeah, that part I had heard.

Date: 2006-08-08 12:11 am (UTC)Nah, I looked at all the armor she showed me and she accepted my DRG JSE, which she didn't model. I'm not sure how random it is, but it's definately not limited to the items she shows you. :3

Date: 2006-08-08 08:35 pm (UTC)Death aside, I'm thoroughly enjoying the story in the missions. The empress is so mysterious and sinister...

Date: 2006-08-09 06:18 pm (UTC)Ah, I wondered about that. I saw she was WSed with Invincible up and got one-shotted, but I hadn't known the WS and so was boggling.
I think you and Cy are right: We just had some bad luck on this. Hopefully future fights will go better!
