Grumpy day with good ending (FFXI)
Aug. 20th, 2006 10:31 pmI have no idea why I was grumpy for most of the day today. (I'm suspecting because I pulled something in my back yesterday and today it hurts even to inhale. Can physical pain make you grumpy?) But whatever the reason, the old 'It's the people that make FFXI such a great game' thing held true, and the day ended on a high note when we had lots of fun on LS.
Since Iwanted needed to level smithing more, I went farming for more lizard skins. Off to Davoi, land of orcs and treasure chests! Last weekend I kept tripping over and opening chests, but this weekend was just the opposite: Found a chest, couldn't get a key before someone else popped it. Got a key, couldn't find a chest for the life of me. That annoyed me a whole lot, which was really stupid: The best thing out of the chests is 6K gil, which is nothing. Why even take time from farming to deal with that!
Last week while farming there I had hoped to run into NMs, but didn't find one. This weekend I think I found them all. o.O
First was the very silly-named Tigerbane Bakdak. Look! He's a DRK! Hee! I have no idea if this was the good drop or not, I suspect not. There were a mess of them up on the AH, and I think it was selling for about 20K.

Then I ran face-first into Poisonhand Ghadgad. (I like this pose, because he's a MNK mob!) I found him totally by chance, but in doing so beat out a gilseller and two real campers. The gilseller got mad and warped out, but the two real campers were sad and /comfort'ed each other. That made me feel bad, because I hate it when that happens to me: You camp something for hours, then someone else just passing through gets the NM. I didn't get the good drop though, so at least I didn't feel too bad. 10K at the AH:

Poisonhand made me think about how sucky of a HNM LS member I'd be:
Lots of LSs camping HNM.
HNM: *pops* Oh, hi all! *waves a paw*
Me: Um, guys, those other LSs were here first. Don't you think we should let them have it?
My HNM LS: *stunned silence*
Me: But... it'd be the nice thing to do, you know...
LS leader: /linkshellbreak Thistle
On some servers they /random to see who gets the claim, which is at least nicer than what Midgar does. :( Makes me sad.
Anyway, back to today! I got a quest item (for the Jaguar Mantle pre-quest) so I ran off to Oldton to drop it off. I was on a bird and passed a NM. Two PCs were running at it, so I figured they'd claim it before I could dismount, so I stayed on the bird. They ran right by it! o.O So I dismounted and snagged it. NMs need better names! Maighdean Uaine: Got it! I nearly one-shotted it, and even though I was /WHM, I got the good drop. (Is it a 100% drop?)

This is getting long! And spammy! So I'll be brief for the rest: Went with LS group to clear trial weapon (pick) and XP NPCs. Must have gotten my pick about halfway clear. NPC leveled, too! Yay!

Got two more levels on smithing (41), but had the worst thing ever: For only the second time in my entire time playing, I forgot to do the god damned level cap test after hitting 40. I synthed for 15 minutes until I realized! (*$*#@&$)@~ Who knows how long I would have kept on going if my old "girlfriend" (Isn't she pretty~?) hadn't asked me what level it was. Me: *checks* "Oh, 40 ...wait, why's it blue?" *facepalms*
From helping Caboose get whatever that demon BLU move. Ha!

And last but not least, how's this for cool?

That's not from tonight, unfortunately. Got only two coins total again. >< >< >< What the hell, am I de-leveling digging? I wonder if the game doesn't want you to dig in the same zone every day... Oh that'd be so annoying!
I logged out at the Sandy chocobo stable, chocobo egg in hand! Can't wait to hand it in tomorrow!

Date: 2006-08-21 12:19 pm (UTC)(sorry, LS mate who disappeared for months. hehehe)
And in that hypothetical HNM LS scenario, you'd have about .5 seconds to say you should let other LS's have it before someone claimed. ;) I do feel bad sometimes when that kind of thing happens, but it really isn't terribly common. I think? Maybe I'm just jaded and don't even notice anymore. It only took a month or so of endgame, plus horrible luck, I think I'm desensitized now hehe.

*laughs* Yeah. It'd be claimed before I got my first line out! :P

Date: 2006-08-21 02:37 pm (UTC)Tigerbane Bakdak drops two axes: the Warrior's Axe and the Tigerhunter. I think the Tigerhunter is the more rare one, or at least the more valuable one since it can be used for 30-cap areas. The Warrior's Axe is nice, though, and it lasted me from 32 to my AF at 40.
Mag-whatsit is a 100% drop. I saw it wandering around in North Gustaberg once and snagged it. The earring looks like it'd be useful for lower-level SAM and DRK, when trading a bit of attack power for accuracy will probably help. At least, that's how I plan to use it someday. ^^
Finally, I am totally with you on the HNM thing, which is why I will never join an HNMLS when I'm big enough. ^_~ Dynamis, *maybe*. Meriting, sure. But no HNM stuff.

Aww! And here I thought I got lucky. Oh well! And you can use it for skilling, too! I slapped it on my ear last night, for clearing the trial weapon.
