I've been using an emulator to replay Pokemon at work. First I played Emerald, and hated every moment of it. Damned insane pokemon made while smoking crack, I hated them all... enough so that I thought I was over the whole Pokemon thing. Eventually I got bored enough to try again, this time with Fire Red. Oh my, so much better! No crack! No god-awful stupid pokemon!

But now I have a big problem, and I hope it doesn't mean I'm dead in the water. Anyone recall the game enough to help? I've read a bunch of walkthroughs, but based on them something seems broken.

I'm in Saffron City, in the Silph Co building. I made it to the room with (I assume) Giovanni and the company president (and his secretary). The person I assumed was Gio ignored me, so I talked to the guy sitting on the couch. He handed me a Master Ball. *boggle* Wasn't that the reward you get AFTER beating Gio?

Then it got messier: All the Silph employees thanked me for getting rid of the Rockets, yet the Rockets were all still in the building and I could fight them. I cleared out half the building and went back to talk to Gio (fellow in black, standing next to the president's couch), but he still ignores me. I can't interact with him at all.

This leads to the big problem: I can't get into the Saffron gym because the door is blocked by a Rocket. The Rocket won't leave until I beat Gio. Gio is ignoring me... ><

On a related note: I'm very much enjoying the new Pokemon eps. The one about Jessie and James training to become Rockets? The one where Butch and Cassidy get info from a seemingly non-Rocket person (just like we did on the MUSH!). Yay!

Sounds like something's broken. Have you beaten your rival yet? He challenges you on the way up the building, if I remember rightly. Or was that in the Rocket HQ? Anyway. When you get to the door of the room where Gio is, he should turn and face you, give his speech, then challenge you himself. Since he hasn't, it sounds like something broke. Stupid emulators.

Yeah, he challenged me a couple rooms before Gio. Gio hasn't given me his speech about taking over the world or whatever, he just stands there and ignores me.

I don't know anything about pokemon games, but usually with emulators you can do a lot of nifty things like save state and find/use cheats.
If you saved state before you ran into problems (there is so much space on a PC to save stuff like that), I would restart from there.
If not and the game really is broken there, you can search memory before and after doing an action to see if you can actually get past it some other way (moving yourself past a door, giving yourself whatever key item you need etc) just long enough to get back to normal game.

Ah, cool. I'll poke at that tomorrow.

The special Ash-free episodes are the best things to ever come out of the Pokemon anime. I haven't even watched most of them and I know this to be true.

Also, I can't imagine what happened to corrupt your ROM. That part of the game worked just fine for me. I really hope you abuse save states as much as I do, since you may have to restart the whole Silph Co. business if the suggestions above don't work out.

Unfortunately I've always used "save in oldest slot" instead of picking slots. >< That means I'm basically screwed if I can't make this work, and it doesn't sound like I can. Oh well. Maybe I'll find something else to play.

*snerks* I wish! I've been thinking, wouldn't a Pokemon game where you play a Rocket be cool? Probably wouldn't sell, but I'd love to try it.

...and your icon is very scary!

Heehee, I'd believe that!
