Edit: Is Bleach still in filler eps? I discovered that it's on Youtube, so I can catch up at work... then I discovered that the reason I stopped watching was because it went to filler.

Hit 49 last night, and would like to get to 60 as painlessly as possible, then never touch smithing again!

Potential skill items:

Broadsword: 51 (Fire) Lizard Skin, Mythril Ingot x2
This item temps me, because the only thing I have left to skill after smithing is goldsmithing, and I'll be making mythril ingots then. Could pause smithing until I get to that point, then skill both at the same time... But I guess I'm too impatient to wait.

Gorget: caps at 53, (Fire) Iron Sheet, Sheep Leather
Iron sheets sell for 4Kish at the guild, if you catch them at the right time. However, I do have a couple of stacks left. Sheep leather can be farmed or camped at the leathercrafting guild for pretty cheap. Might make these until I use up my sheets. ffxiah.com shows that they sell a few per day for 9-10K. (Edit: Guess I won't do this, since I can use the iron sheets later.)

Steel Ingot: 54 (Fire) Bomb Ash x4, Iron Sand x4
Ash and sand sell from a vendor for ~500, so about 4K per synth. They sell for 5-6K in Jeuno, plus they stack, so this looks like the better option.

Armored Arrowheads: 55 (needs bonecraft 58, which I have). (Wind) Steel Ingot, Taurus Horn. Draque, this might work for you to skill both smithing and bone? Taurus Horn sell for about 2K per ffxiah, but don't sell too too often (couple a day). I can't find a listing for armored arrowheads on ffxiah, so not sure how those sell.

Sallet: 55 Fire, Iron Sheet x2, Copper Ingot, Sheep Leather (Sells very very slowly, for about 10K. Would need to vendor or desynth.)

Gauntlets: 57 Fire, Iron Sheet x2, Leather Gloves x2 (Sells even slower, 5-10K, vendor/desynth.)

Kyofu: 58 Earth, Tin Ingot, Iron Sheet, Shinobi-gatana (can buy from vendor for 2728-3125) -- just like gust claymore! Maybe skillups will be as good? Sells slowly, so desynth or vendor.

Darksteel Bolt Heads: 62 Wind, Darksteel Ingot (Blech, unless I can get my own darksteel and make my own ingots, which I'll be able to at this point. Still: Blech.)

Hm, there are a couple other 62-63 synths that might work, but they all use two or three darksteel ingots. Why risk more than one when you can risk one on the boltheads?

So it looks like I'm going to do:
Steel Ingot to 54
Kyofu to 58
Darksteel Bolt Heads to 60

Can't wait to start goldsmithing! Though I can hardly imagine what it'll be like to be totally done skilling all crafts, forever. I wish they'd introduce new ones, like they do jobs.

hm i don't know if that's the best path really.
It's been a long time but I think I did darksteel ingots until 53. It was no loss, even some gain. Maybe kyofu is ok too, before 60 I usually did up to 10 levels lower than recipe too, for better skillups. I also did darksteel boltheads, it was also no loss and I already had darksteel ingots that i didn't need to sell that way (no point saturating the market, it only works against you).
I also did nodowas to 60 since iron is basically free. Goldsmithing is REALLY ridiculously expensive after 54, really cheap like all other crafts before that.

Thistle and I aren't concerned too much with cost. :) We're going for skill ups. As weird as that sounds it's why we're trying none 'normal' path items.

Ingots are a chore, but got me easily to 49-51 on only two stacks. Just sold a stack of armored arrowheads for 350k. @.@ They are under woodworking. Just buy horns when you can. I got a stacks worth in two days by poking ah in every city. Never paid more then 2k a horn.

Looks like you picked the same things I did, Thistle. :)

Check out genome's rec to do nodowas (earth, Iron Sheet, Silk Thread, caps at 66) for the last push. That looks like more of a winner than boltheads! The less I skill on darksteel, the happier I'll be.

I was looking at all the options, and it boggled me that people skilled on darksteel ingots. Why risk a DS ore worth 15-17K on a skillup synth? Because the ingots sell for more? Or to use them later? If those were the case, then I'd just make them later, when I was above cap.

*checks somepage* Oh wow, nodowas are a good idea though! I didn't look that far ahead, so didn't spot that one. Looks like a better option than boltheads!

Well because they stack of course! hehe (also the ore might not sell as easily or fast as an ingot or a whole stack of them since more crafts can use those than the ore itself)
Also, probably not for darksteel ingots, but on many recipes I always tried to aim for failed synths to save materials, often you just lose the crystal and still get a skillup, other times you might lose just one iron ore or something.
I have a feeling you really won't like trying to get gold to 60 then, not losing at least 17k per synth is kinda impossible for that =P (plus you might not feel comfortable trying the few no-loss recipes where you could lose up to 4 gold ores at once). I am at 55 gold and I want it blue but I don't see any real cheap way to do that, I found cheap ways up to 54 but I am stumped now (if you have any suggestions while you look ahead at that let me know...)

Hm, interesting. Well, if I can keep digging ~5 DS ores up a night, I might just try it!

I have a feeling you really won't like trying to get gold to 60 then

Yeah, I already know I won't like it. I'm just going to take it slowly and try to be as reasonable as possible.

(if you have any suggestions while you look ahead at that let me know...)

Will do! Hopefully it won't be too much longer! 52.3 smithing as of lunchtime today!

Cool, hurry up hehe I am counting on you, i'm out of ideas on that part of goldsmithing.

Heh! Sorry to tell you, but I'll probably take a break between smithing and goldsmithing. Smithing's stressing me out quite a bit. But once I do do goldsmithing, I'll be sure to post about it!

Bleach isn't in filler presently. Bleach95 (the most current ep) is Kuchiki Byakuya vs Kariya. I don't like where the story arc is going, but its not filler.

Oh, and a Nilych is me.

Yay non-filler Bleach (though I found another series for the moment) and woo you getting a LJ! Now I don't have to feel like I'm talking about you behind your back! :P (When we talk about keys and stuff.)

indeed! oi! what've you been saying behind my back?!

Actually, had a LJ for almost 2 years (Dec 1st, 2004). In that span, I've made 16 posts. Started it when I had some serious emotional issues when entering grad school...kinda funny to read it now.

And you! You're a GIRL!!! I guess the ambiguity and anonymity of the internet are getting to me, I don't give a flying @#$% anymore about such things. The LS are mostly bitchin' people, don't care what sex they are. Just amuses me to know these things...

That 'Nil' rhymes with 'dill' and who could be friends with someone like that?!

It scares me to go back and read my oldest posts! So I just don't do it. :P

And you! You're a GIRL!!!

Lies! ...wait, no, I am. c.c People who know me through LJ know that, but I don't tell people on FFXI. A few people who have found out started treating me very different (omg you got b00bs! here have stuffz! need help with anything? */tells 47397918 times an hour*), and I don't want that. Besides, if people knew I was a girl, no one would twitch when I hit on guys! And making people twitch is so much fun. :P

Secret's safe with me. Carry on...don't think I've ever twitched when hit on by guys (except one halloween at a drag show...one can only be groped so hard without response). And agreed, making people twitch is much fun. It will amuse me somewhat greater now knowing that what they really can't handle is being hit on by a girl. Which fits the "omg u got b00bs" type accurately.
