Stuff happened today, but what happened two years ago today is more important! (At least to LS people.) On 10-01-04, Fye got married! (Warning: Screenshot is full sized.) Look at all the old people there! Ead and Draque and Aurian as low levels! (Gah, how horrible, just horrible, it was getting to Hall of the Gods as a tiny little WHM!) So many people who are gone now, too... (Looks like there are a few screenshots, 10-01-w1.jpg through 10-01-w12.jpg .)

Anyway, on to today! Or rather, late last night:

Sometime around midnight last night, long after I was supposed to be asleep (haven't been able to sleep lately), a number of hides got listed so I snagged them and skilled. Yay.

Today: Not so hot. Spent a good 500K, and got a grand total of .2 skillups, all in the first thirty minutes or so of the day. That left about 10 hours of buying and synthing and losing money with no skillups. Was so very annoying. So I think I'm going to stop at 97, for a while or forever. What do I make for profit? Various hides to leathers (taking advantage of lazy skillers). How would three more levels help that? It wouldn't. While I'm the first to admit that a month or two ago I did have way too much money, being down by more than 50% in such a short time hurts. Add on top of that how damned tired I am of seeing idiot crafters buy things at double the price history, and I'm just totally fed up. (I mean what the hell, with prices falling as they are, what sort of idiots would pay double for damned hides?) So that's it. Enough skilling for now.

We got a couple AF3s out of the way today, including my BRD one.

Ha ha, so easy! And so bad looking! Yes, let me go into the wilds to fight monsters while wearing a fuzzy jacket that isn't even snapped up right! (AF feet missing from that shot, they're in my locker.) Now I just need my AF hands, especially since we'll likely hit 60 on Tuesday. Problem is, I really, really don't want to deal with it. I've never coffer hunted in Castle Z before, but I bet it's really bad. Sneak and invisible needed, plus there's magic aggro?

The BRD AF storyline was sweet (spoilers). I've done DRK and RDM AF as well, but BRD is my favorite storyline.

Random screenshots:
While I was camping the guild for hides to tan for profit, some strange mithra came up and hit on me. o.O What the hell. She was purring and rubbing on me and kept smiling and flirting with me. I have no clue who she is. I think she was after my money. c.c

Sometimes my .dat swaps come back and bite me. A happy couple in Bastok. Gah! My eyes!

And from some random Besieged: Such a pretty sky! I wish I could spend more time in the city, but especially with the Candysense still gone, it's not possible.

BRD AF storyline helped me realize that if a male Hume could love a female Elvaan, male Hume/Elvaan male pr0n is totally legit. XD

But the story was so sweet and touching ;A; Awwwww

That's totally a manthra hitting on you. D; Or very socially inept. Better to be subtle!

BRD AF was interesting, but I kind of liked WHM too since it tied in with Tavnazia (no, that doesn't count as a spoiler unless you look up how it ties in ; ;). Actually all of them are pretty good except the AF weapon for PLD because I hate that kid's family. D:

I'm betting manthra, yep. Though "she" never asked me for anything, so it was odd.

Yeah, not a spoiler. I mean, the key item is called Tavnazia Bell or something like that. You know there's got to be a tie in there somewhere!

All I can think of when I see you in BRD AF is our static's WAR (who has your model) having stolen our static's BRD's clothes. ;p

You could steal mine, baby~

I can't post in the LJ community, so:

An elemental staff gives a 10/15% bonus (NQ/HQ) to a spell of its element, including bard songs (except buffs, sadly you can't get a 15% increase in Minuet by wearing a Vulcan's). Now I'm not even really sure what this bonus entails with BRD debuffs -- whether with potency or landing them or both, who knows, just know that they help and the HQ helps more. ;)

The Chanter's will give you a little boost since it has some +skill, but not nearly as much as the corresponding staff. And since the two most commonly cast debuffs are Elegy and Lullaby, most BRDs have a Light/Apollo's and an Earth/Terra's. But if you're not having trouble landing those and don't want to get the staves, stick with Chanter's by all means. If you do wind up getting them, NQs should work fine, and keep the Chanter's if you cast Threnody a lot.

Sorry if that's a long-winded answer, I'm just a sucker for mage talk. ;)

With RDM debuffs, the appropriate elemental staff decreases your resist rate. Have to add the appropriate MND or INT in other slots to increase the potency. However, that's RDM and not BRD. Your results may vary.

I know that on BLM the damage boost for the appropriate staff far outweighs just casting everything with an Ice Staff, which has +elemental skill (+5 or +10 I think). Even the poorest of BLMs are encourage to at least get Ice, Wind and Dark staves. Dark to rest, Ice for all nukes but Aero, and Wind because there is a damage penalty on Wind-based spells cast with an Ice staff.

The few BRD guides I've found have suggested that as well.

Thanks for the info!

Staves lower resist rates for BRD for sure, but I don't think they do anything (or anything noticable at least) for potency even for debuffs - I think that depends more on if the instrument has +song on it, like horn for the elegy+ and harp or piccolo for threnody+ (harp has a harder time sticking anything but it lasts longer, while horn is more likely to stick but last a shorter amount of time - very easy to see the difference if you try using nursemaid's harp on ITs at the level you get it :X). I hate being resisted and I'm too cheap for chanter's though, and I had all the staves anyway from SMN.

Elegy just *does not* stick to Seiryu though, and probably not to Kirin either. D: Maybe if you tried a thousand times, but I'd rather be catching -na spells then watching it fail over and over. The pain!

No surprise that earth-based Elegy won't land on wind-based Seiryu. Only done Kirin 2 or 3 times, and last time was several months ago. Was too busy running for my life to notice if the BRDs were trying to land Elegy.

I don't believe + on an instrument adds any potency at all to debuffs but only length, as most easily viewed with lullaby, casting without an instrument and casting with Mary's Horn your sleeps will last longer.
Staves do decrease resist rate if you have enough CHR/Skill to back it up, and because they have a base 15% potency I don't see why it would apply to RDM and BLM spells and not BRD.

I've seen Elegy land *once* on Kirin and the BRD was so happy at the fluke that he screen shotted it and made it his sig x3 hahaha

Don't apologize! Poor melee me is so lost in all this stuff! ("Get more than one staff? Why not get just the one that does the most damage!" -- ha ha.)

Elegy sticks almost without fail, but there's always room for improvement. (And besides, Chanter's is kind of ugly.)

Looks like I'm going shopping tonight!

Ah yes, coffer hunting in Castle Zvahl. It is worth taking some time to really study the maps on ffxi-atlas, so you understand where you're dropping. It's mostly just a pain in the ass, waiting to see if the demons or Ahriman, depending on where you're looking, have their backs turned. Having the coffer be on the wrong side of the big hole in the middle can be rough, though. Just make sure that if you go to that center room where the hole is, that you check both sides before you drop off. Can't think of how else to put my thoughts on Zvahl. Yeah, Demons are sight, Ahriman are sneak/sight. Pretty sure I've recast Invis near an Ahriman before, but I wouldn't bet your life on it.

At least it's gloves, so you can get the coffer key and open it on DRK.

True, yay! Thanks for the info! I'm going to print up the maps first, so that I don't have to keep flipping windows while in the middle of aggro.

Forget DRK, go RDM/BLM for Operation Chainspell-Warp Kamikaze Coffer Popping™

She probably didn't know I have RDM leveled, since I never mention the job at all. I'll probably go in DRK/WHM the first time (key hunting) and make someone else come /THF for TH, then if I have to return do the RDM/BLM thing. :D
