Two days, two music links! What more could you ask for~?

This is so cool and so totally amusing: A girl's choir sings "I Touch Myself". I guess someone might be able to take 'A fool could see / Just how much I adore you / I get down on my knees / I'd do anything for you' as meaning prayer, but 'I don't want anybody else / When I think about you / I touch myself'? Heehee.

Amusement aside, it's really pretty to listen to. I didn't know the original group was The Divinyls though. I thought it was some more... known name. Like George Michael or Madonna or something.

Hm, actually, can a choir be a non-religious singing group? Maybe? Seems moot in this case. Their site lists them as "Scala Choir: Christian / Rock / Pop" and "Influences God". Either way, amusing and fun to listen to! Though one person did comment 'Pedophiles rejoice!' over it. :P

Edit: Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" done by a capella group is really, really odd but kind of cool. The actual singing part is nice.

Yes, a choir can be non-religious and I'd venture to say most are. Most junior highs, high schools, and colleges all have them, after all.

Maybe it's based on where in the country you are? In the schools I attended, it was always chorus, not choir. Church/religion is what I think when I hear 'choir'.

Hm, checking M-W.com:

1 : an organized company of singers (as in a church service)
2 : a group of instruments of the same class
3 : an organized group of persons or things
4 : a division of angels
5 : the part of a church occupied by the singers or by the clergy; also : the part of a church where the services are performed
6 : a group organized for ensemble speaking

I guess it could go either way, but it looks like it's leaning towards religious.

I seem to recall that Samantha Fox had a hit in the 80s with "I Touch Myself".

For the most part you're right thistle...

Both a choir and a chorus are musical ensembles of singers.

Having been a vocal major in college... I personally would tend to say that a vocal ensemble that sings in a church or one that sings predominantly sacred music would be a choir.

Chorus has both general and specific meanings. Generically, any vocal ensemble that performs secular music (barbershop, pop, jazz) would be a chorus. Specifically, a chorus is the group of people in an opera or a musical that sings the background group part supporting the soloists.

In the real world though... I would say most people would use these terms interchangably with little care. I'm a music snob and either one in any instance would be ok with me.

Hmm, that makes sense. I guess I'm one of the few who don't use them interchangably!

The girls' choir singing "I Touch Myself" was seriously laugh-out-loud funny. Thanks for sharing that.

if I weren't lazy, I'd dredge up an old LJ entry I did on this very subject!

I am on a public PC at the moment, so I am not going to fire up the links you've posted. But, to relate my own experience, I have heard both of those songs done live in Germany. One was by a young childrens choir (I Touch Myself, oi) and the other by my brother-in-law's a cappella group. I'm going to remember this entry so I can check out the links when I get back to Amsterdam on Sunday. :D

Not related to the post, posting 'cause you asked me to~ X3

Mind the ubertight bikini bottoms and er... perkiness. Could do without that. But! One of the best mithra pictures I've run across: A toned body (like an adventurer should have) and breasts that aren't unrealisticly huge!

Might wanna look when you get home, just in case. Like I said, clothed, but probably not entirely safe for work... Wonder if I can photoshop her into a Nai-lookalike. Hm~~

Ah, I've seen that image before! You're right, it's not exactly totally work safe. :P

I like the chest, dispite the perkiness. The cloth is really drawn and colored well.
