Busy night! (FFX)

Work was just horrible (one of the busiest days of the year and I was alone), so the last thing I wanted to do was to log on and do something we had next to zero experience at. Turns out, it was fun!

I wasn't the only person in our new Assault static who didn't want to do Assaults because we thought they'd be CoPish, but just the opposite! Reasonably challenging, not too long, and fun! (I had to laugh at how gun shy CoP missions have made us of game stuff.)

We did three instead of four, and while we only won one, that was more than I expected. (Most of us had never done an Assault before; we had almost no plans and only knew what to expect by reading web pages.)

Excavation Duty (kill all the walls!) was our first one, and we lost badly (ran out of time), but it was totally understandable. Not knowing the best way for our group, we tried killing the micemen for bombs. Ran out of time before we were halfway done.

But we knew we could beat it (we took down each wall in minutes, it was killing the mobs that ate our time), so we tried it again. NIN, NIN, SAM, SAM, WHM, BRD kicked butt! It was cake, we strolled through with plenty of time.

The last one was what many of us thought would be an easy one: Golden Salvage. None of us wanted to leech, but one of the SAMs has SMN 75, so we all sat at the end and waited for him to find the right chest (until we left to deal with aggro). Wouldn't you know it, it was in the very last chest checked? >< We lost, but if we had literally seconds more, we would have won. Maybe two seconds would have made the difference. (All I needed to do was turn and click on the ... end thingie. I didn't even have to take a step, just turn and click.)

Next week we're doing the Kill All Walls again (twice), then Kill All Worms (the one we skipped tonight to repeat Walls), and re-trying Golden Salvage. I'm really amazed that this is actually fun, and I can't wait to do it again!

After that we killed Nai's BLU AF3 mob (a mindflayer).

After that I traded in my 1,000 bronze coins for the silly turban. (Screenshots some other night.)

I was dead tired and it was late, but I still hadn't gone digging, so I decided to. Good thing I did! I went to Meri Mountains with the intent of vendoring everything that wasn't gold (didn't want to deal with muling, zzz), but I came back with a great haul! 6 gold beastcoins, 1 gold ore, 1 darksteel ore, 1 aluminum ore.

Zzzz now. Hopefully tomorrow at work will be better, but I seriously doubt it. :/

I'm so sorry for being angry. It's really no one's fault. u.u I logged because I was actually in pain, arms were shaking, and I just couldn't be rational. Didn't want to take it out on you guys more then I did.

No worries at all! We all felt bad for leeching off you like that.

I was thinking about it tonight, and I think most of us made some really big mistakes, but that's not surprising at all. (Did you know it was me who lost us Salvage? I was standing there with the treasure chest and release portal thingie, and I thought clicking the chest was the right choice -- I had thought either would win it for us, but the chest would give us the items as well.)

I don't recall if I told you this (I wanted to, but I hadn't wanted to distract you while you were busy). We're not intending to spam this one. One unique win would rock, but then we'd rather do something we could all take part in.

We talked about ideas on how to make it work better. Nil offered to go as SMN if we want (SMN 30 though, I think). We could send people out with him or with you, and leave one person right at the end spot for sure.

I need to get better maps before next week, so I know exactly where the end is.

All in all, I'm really happy with how the night went. Win? Lose? Doesn't matter. We learned a hell of a lot, and that will make future runs better.

I'm sorry it caused you pain, the game should never do that for anyone. :/

I had loads of fun for the rock smashing one, no matter win or lose. It was just after half a hour of aggro dodging (They are true sight and sound, and they have a larger aggro range then other critters I've dodged.) I was so tense that even by back hurt. I was hunched over. If there wasn't a time limit it would have been fun. >.<

As for Nil on smn.. I don't think any smn or avatar would last long enough at that level. See, you can't assault the chests. You MUST walk right up to it and let it smack you. Then Carby auto-attacks.

The chests also have draw-in, so if Carby doesn't last long enough for you to run out of draw-in range, you're hosed. Caboose tried 75 Pld/smn and he had trouble with that. If a level 37 carby can't handle it, a 30 isn't going to.

This is why I didn't suggest Dani go /smn. It wouldn't have helped.

Tonight was simple bad luck about the chests. That's all there is to it. Merlee has gotten the right chest first try, but we can never count on that. While it's easier then others, it's not an easy assault. Or at least not for me. x.x

I'm sorry it caused me pain too. That time limit + aggro dodging sucks.

Grab me for that one (or any assault, really). I do pretty well at beating down the walls.

Assault is fun, they're pretty short so it's easy to try again.

Assaults are awesome! I love how once you know how to do them they're very winnable, but still a challenge. It makes farming really fun. :D Oh, if you aren't using it already, the FFXIclopedia on Wiki has a great guide on Assaults. Hope you win them all next week!
