Positive: At least my money issues aren't RL.
Negative: I'm obsessing over money on-game.

I've officially hit the half-way point of my cash, and I now have less money than I've had in a year and a half (since I got my Hauberk for 11M). Even though I know I still have more money than other people (sorry Nai) it's scaring me how much I'm spending.

I've started doing something that I always felt no one should ever do: I'm selling off my armor to make cash. I'm also going to turn my IS into coins and sell those. I've always believed that one should hold onto armor, CP, IS, etc as sort of "money in the bank" in case of emergencies, so it's making me twitch that I'm breaking into that stock. :/

So much more hate for CoP. I'm sitting on a ton of capped DRK armor and weapons that I don't want to sell because I'll need them when we restart missions. Whoever thought level caps (so many different ones!) were a good idea should be fired. ><

Unfortunately (no news to anyone) my armor has gone down majorly in value. I want to sell my scorp harness. I bought it for 3.5M. It's now selling for 900K. The Haubergeon I got for 4.5M? Down to 1.2M. (Though I might hold the hauby, since if I stick with BST I'd use it. If Dani and Des continue on past subjob levels I might stick with them -- if they want me! BRD will be finished soon (soon, ha!) so I'll have room for another static.)

In very related money-news: Chaser hit goldsmithing 61! Yay! That's going to mark the end of her platinum skilling, which should slow my bleeding of gil. (I am sitting on almost 3 stacks of plat ingots though, which should help later.)

I got very lucky today: I had been stalking a bone crafter who was slowly leaking bone patas onto the AH (I need them to make a different item to skill on). I finally successfully cornered him and he made me 20! Yay! That's the only reason I got the level today. :D It was nice that he could skill on making them, then sell them to me so I could skill with them. (Note to self: Must stalk and corner Draque in the near future! Hunt him down and pounce him and snuggle him until he begs for mercy and synths me more patas~ ;) Or ask him nicely! One of the two!)

In depressing news: I have the most god awful luck with Escort XP scrolls. Tonight I got 2 XP above the minimum. In the last 2-3 months, I've gotten over 800 twice (cap is 1500? 1499? whichever). Wish my luck would change.

And that's the news!

Edit: Arg! My BRD macros are still messed up from Sunday! I must fix them before Assaults tomorrow night! Arg! Eek! Ack! And other such noises!

Call me crazy, but you could ...not skill up and make some gil instead. o.O; Really, you're being flat out obsessive. Step away from your crafting and be rational for once. ;)

But yes, I'll synth more if you need them. :)

Believe it or not, it's not me being obsessed. I'm afraid to stop, because if I stop, it will be so so so so easy not to restart. I'll put off skilling for a day, then a week, and hey! Look! I'm actually gaining money! So I'll stop longer... and never get back to it. And if I stop now, all the money will be totally and 100% wasted -- I have gold 60 on Thistle with every other craft leveled, what good is gold 61 on Chaser with no subcrafts?

I know I usually/often get obsessed about things, but that's not the case this time. (Or maybe this is an excuse and I'm kidding myself! I really don't know. But I do know that I really want to stop skilling, which is a bad sign.)

It's funny, I had gone into this thinking I totally knew what to expect, but I was wrong. Skilling gold is unlike any other skilling, but there's no way I'm going to quit. (I do wish I had never started though, what in the world had I been thinking? I could be sitting back, fat and sassy and rich (and bored~) right now!) Hm, that sounds obsessed, huh? :P It's more like... 'but there's no way I'm going to quit out of laziness'. If I make some kind of rational decision to quit (which I can't see happening, see also: the first paragraph), that would be different.

But yes, I'll synth more if you need them. :)

Thank you! It won't be before Wednesday and maybe further than that. <3

So.. stressing over this game because you don't have enough gil to level a craft isn't obsessing? ;)

Your time of course, but selling all your gear won't get you to 100 on gold, and you're already unhappy except for Beseiged by your own admission. Way it looks to me you enjoy making yourself miserable in game. ;)

Heh! I wrote a post about this last week, but I ended up deleting it a minute or so after I posted it. Besieged is the only "fun" thing I do (not the same as things that make me happy), but there's something other than fun I get out of the game: Satisfaction when I get work done. Capping a skill (craft, combat, magic, whatever), making X money, leveling up -- not "fun" but very "satisfying". So yes, I have little fun in the game, yet I get satisfaction from accomplishing things -- which gives me enjoyment. So I'm not having fun, yet I'm enjoying the game. It makes no sense to me...

Perhaps your last sentence is right! :P

I really have to second Nai's comments as well. :)

We're just worried about you! This isn't healthy. Crafting isn't going anywhere. Promise! Really, you'd be way, way better off to stop and make gil. Because really.. what happens after you sell all that gear (Which I can see selling some of it, for I hate having to store all that capped crap. In the same boat here.) and find out you've managed like level 65-70 gold? If it's taken 9mil to get to 61.. no way all your gear will get to 100.

I'm having to do just this same thing with bone. At 81 and while I can buy materials I MUST wait for things to sell before I can craft more. >.< So slow.

Perhaps give yourself goals? Make a couple million, then use it to craft? This way you always have a goal. Sure it's not always crafting, but it'll always be for crafting in the long run. "Omg! Gotta make 2mil so I can level gold! Omg! Got 2mil! Level gold!" Repeat until your eyes bleed. ;)

Luckily and unluckily, it's not all equal. There's a 92 level synth that isn't too bad (needs a gold ingot, but at that level that's not bad at all!)

At gold 87, I can make 100K profit on each (successful) skillup synth! (150K for an ore, bead sells for 280-ish NQ.)

However before those are 20 levels of more rough stuff.

*snerks* That might work!

I vote for excuse. You can always start back up after you stop after a while. :E If you are anything, it's obsessive, NOT lazy. I don't think anyone would ever say you're lazy. c.c Me? I'm lazy. I don't do stuff just 'cause I don't want to. You, on the other hand, stretch yourself 84650 ways and then wonder why you're stressing...

Gold will be there later. You'll finish it just like you finished leather. :E If you burn yourself out, I'll have to hunt you down and smack you, y'know. ;3

Ha ha ha. You should see me RL! Lazy as heck. And, when something is hard, if I stop "just once" or "just for a little while" I never get back to it (see also: dieting, exercise, attempting to be somewhat social RL). I'm worried that will be the case with gold; gold is hard, so I'm afraid if I stop I won't go back to it.

If you burn yourself out, I'll have to hunt you down and smack you, y'know. ;3

Oh baby!

You stopped leather 'cause it was hard and you burned yourself out on it. :E Then you came back and finished it. My argument still stands. ;3 You -can- stop and come back to it, you're just too obsessed with it not to. :E

Yeah, it only took me two years to get back to it! :P I'm not going to be a slacker! I'm not going to stop goldsmithing for that long! (Though Draque's idea is a good one and I might have to do that.)

I'm so bad when it comes to having money.

I own the following stuff I can't use: Haubergeon, Byrnie, Gluttony Sword (Bought this when it was 1.2M...ouch), assorted high level PLD gear, and prolly dones of other things I can't think of. To my credit though, I did get the damascus ingot I got from a KSNM turned into the Haubergeon, but still. =O

And I agree with the gear selling bit. I have gear for MNK from 15-75 still. Not so much armor for 15-25, but I do still have my weapon. =p Possibly because of my refusal to lose a signature on anything. =O

Ah, see! So PLD should be your next job~!

But more seriously: Yeah, I know just where you're coming from. :/

Spending 6M just to get to 60? ugh... I'm shuddering at the thought of when I do it too. What is your reason to do this anyways?

Date: 2007-01-30 02:40 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com
Unfortunately more than that. I'm 9M down now and at gold 61. I'm not sure how much was for 60-61. Also, believe it or not, I did this as slowly as possible -- I made my own ingots whenever it was cheaper (any time other than mythril, those are generally cheaper to buy premade),and I had a bunch of gold and plat saved up from chocobo digging. However, included in this is 60K of GPs earned on Chaser.

And why am I doing it? While I boggle at the reasons now, at the time it was because I was bored and had nothing left to do, and that I enjoy skilling crafting. (I'm not enjoying it so much now! :P I am a whole lot less bored though.)

Date: 2007-01-30 02:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] thistle-chaser.livejournal.com
Oh, but: Are you going to get to 60 or go all the way? If it's just 60, yours might be cheaper. On Thistle, I spent roughly 10M to get smithing from 40-60, gold 10-60, and the last 20 or so levels of leather to 100. I went a different skill route with Chaser because she's not stopping at 60 (thus I want plat ingots saved). Thistle made those hydro platas much earlier (like 53-60) and while they were a total loss (about 12K to make, vendors for 2K), it seems like it was cheaper in the end.

The only reason I want level goldsmithing is so I can make my own signed accessories. I recently started doing skilling at a more steady rate. I'm stuck at the moment at the start of Mythril stage. I need to make ingots to so I can make mythril boltheads so my mule can make bolts. I should be able to cap smithing in this manner soon. >.>

I plan on taking PLD to 75. I don't know if Des is continuing with White Mage beyond subjob levels... It'd mean the poor dear'd have to level BLM, and I think he hates it more than me. >_>;

But you're more than welcome to continue BST with us. :D

Heehee! If he continues, I'll stick with you guys. But if you go on alone, it would probably be better if I didn't -- the only thing parties like more than lolplds are lolbsts~! :P I'm not so in love with the job that I'd want to slow invites for you. :)

It'd be cool if we could get another LS static group going though.

We share luck on the Memoirs. Last week (or was it the week before?) I had 3 in a row that didn't break 770... for the ones that cap at 1500. I got like 753, 768, 758 or something stupid like that. I was just ~.~; Then my Chronicals was also insultingly low. I think SE was trying to give me a hint about earning the XP the old fashioned way :/
