Chaser: Goldsmithing 62.9. Yay! While amazingly expensive, leveling on plat makes for "nice" skillups. (Nice for gold, anyway.)

It boggles me that every .1 is an accomplishment. In the low 60s. Every day it strikes me how little I knew going into this: I knew gold was different, but I had no idea how different. I'm paying almost exactly 10 times more per gold synth than I did leather 95-100, and the skillups are slower. In the 60s.

If nothing else, I now have major respect for the goldsmith 100 out there, though I now strongly strongly question how many did it without buying gil. (Am I tempted to? Only in the same way I'm tempted to kill annoying customers -- 'it'd be nice, but I'd never ever do it'. Not only would I in no way want to ever endanger my account by buying gil, if I did then I'd be "cheating" and my gold level wouldn't mean anywhere near as much.)

This is going so very slow and it's such a long road ahead of me. But at least my mindset has shifted: I really do look at it as .1 is the short-term goal, not a level. So long as I make some progress, I'm happy. Each .1 makes me grin and go 'Yay!' out loud. :}

In semi-related news, I finally had time to go mining tonight (I've only been trying to make time since last week >< ). Unfortunately it sucked. I got nothing better than zinc, and the tabbing=crashing bug cripples me. >< I'm going to go out again though, every plat I mine up is another potential skillup!

Also did the Valentine's day event with Nai~! The event is really annoying (same one as last year), but it was really nice spending the evening with her. :) We only got the NQ item -- we ran out of both time and steam before getting the HQ. (Item is pretty worthless anyway, other than that it's signed by your partner.)

There aren't enough hours in the day! :P

I only know one level 100 goldsmither, and I know he made it all that far from the woodworking he had leveled to upper 90s prior. =O And I know he had a few times he had to stop to find money. I know another goldsmither in the upper 90s that spent close to a year camping the ochiudo's kote NM to make the money. Talk about crazy. =O

I totally believe that and I have no idea how I'm going to fund progress that far. I wish I did!

*goes to poke Somepage and FFXIAH.com more*

Just sell all your gear. :) No problem, that should fund Chaser's gold smithing fetish...then you can make all of it back over the next year or two by crafting for folks. Yeah! :)

...

What??? :(

Ha ha ha, you don't know how close you are! But even assuming I sold everything I owned (including all of Thistle's uber +1 armor) I'd still fall way short.

But instead of worrying, I'm going to take it one step at a time! There are periods where I can make money or come close to break even while skilling (70 is one of them, so it's close!) too, so I'm not going to panic. :)

Other people do it, so I can too!
