Bouncie bouncie bouncie! RL and FFXI

RL: Discovered a cool British TV show. Hex! Watched the first 6 or so eps today, have the rest(?) on Tivo. Very cool! And so very unlike US TV! Girls making out! Liberal use of 'fuck' and 'shit' (and oddly only bleeped out in some eps).

FFXI: I forgot just how fun DRKing is! We camped and fought some NM tonight (I think it's supposed to be a secret, so no name or screenshots even though I took some!). Three of us (NIN, WHM, me/DRK), and it gave us ~160 XP, so it was big! And man, it was fun to go (almost) all out on DRK! I even Drain II+Souleater+Blood Weaponed! (Too bad it did an AOE knockback/stun TP move and I lost half the time on that. c.c )

Unfortunately the NM didn't drop what we were after (which apparently has never been gotten on this server yet, and only once on two other servers), but man was that a fun fight! I'm supposed to be in bed about now, but I'm bouncing all over the place!

We were talking about BRD on LS, and I mentioned how I really still don't like the job much. I can't name one time I've really and seriously had fun on BRD, but every time I go out on DRK to a big/serious fight I love it! I love being not just able to stun, but good at it! (Nevermind that the NM's moves were too fast to stun tonight. *cough*) And I love having so many tools to DD with!

And, oddly, I really really really love the idea of dying to do a lot of damage (even though mean ol' Dani didn't let me die! <3 ). That's odd because dying on-game is something I avoid if at all possible (before Besieged was added into the game, I had just over 100 deaths for 2 years of playing), but to do it 'in the line of duty' makes it not just okay, but a good thing!

Hex is pretty good, but it has parts that lag between good bits; my interest in the show is sort of a sinusoidal wave. Still, that's not bad considering I usually lose all interest when a show starts talking about fallen angels and sh-zzzzz.

I think that's just about where I am. And, while I watched the show with way way more of my attention than usual (usually I never look at the screen, period) I still somehow missed something big. Tomorrow I'm going to hunt down a site about the show so I can see where I missed a big apparent character death(?).

*laughs* Sorry! I don't like pulling the 'I know something you don't know!' but I was so excited last night I wanted to post! I think we're not supposed to mention the name because no one knows/camps this thing yet though. When/if we get the drop I'll be able to put my screenshots and the details up!

HEX isn't all that great... it's very badly acted and the story is very cliche in incohesive at points (Which is probably why it was cancelled.) But, if you like the whole supernatural save the world from demons type of show, it's not a bad time waster. I still have to hand it to BBC America for brinning some interesting shows to US audiences. I think Robin Hood is incredible and Coupling is one of my all time favorite TV shows ever.

Yeah, I want to see the new Robin Hood! I haven't heard of Coupling though. (That Footballer's Wife show looks horrible though.)

I enjoy shows about supernatural stuff, witches, undead critters, etc, so it's a good match for me. :)

Aww, it was canceled? Maybe I do have all the eps recorded then.

The problem with BRD (or RDM in my case) is you never get to enjoy anything because you're busy doing something else. You don't have time to enjoy watching the mob's HP going down because there's things to do. March, Madrigal, Ballad, emergency Curaga if you're /WHM, etc. The enjoyment in the support jobs (RDM, BRD, COR) seems to mostly come from being useful and oh-so wanted. It's a nice ego boost, but it's not as much fun IMO.

Whereas DD jobs like DRK are all about the killing. The simple glee of watching the monster die because of your damage. I remember when I started enjoying DRK when I leveled it as a sub, too; there was just something savagely satisfying about that punch in the face from the mob just because I hit it - no WS, no JAs, all I had to do to get hate was regularly hit the mob (and go go Mithra DEX and ACC gear for that!).

I think you're totally right. I started playing the game to help people (I wanted to be a WHM and run around and just cure people :P ), and I don't mind playing a support role, but it's just not as exciting.

Yes, totally. :D It shouldn't make you happy to get hate, but it just felt so good! 'I did that! I was strong enough to get hate just by hitting it'. Such a great feeling, so powerful.

Odd...I'm trying to grind DRK to 75 to merit elemental magic, and I'm finding it hellish; obscenely long pt wait times coupled with slow, boring exp at all times.

Then again, I always hit that "Christ I hate this job" spot in the 60s.

Oh yes, don't get me started about the wait times for parties on DRK. I swear, DRKs are behind even DRGs on the invite list. c.c (I leveled mine pre-PUP, so who knows if those are lower or not.)

Unfortunately I doubt DRKs are invited to the 'exciting' parties. :/ And they have to be happy to take whatever invite they can get.

But actually playing the job is fun to me. :)
