How popular is the Pit? (FFXI)

I logged on as soon as the servers came up. 81 people on, 20 of them were in the Pit. A quarter of the server's population! :P

(Woo, 12 minute wait for a match in Diablo!)

Edit: Wow, and somehow the champ already had 10 wins by the time I logged on. o.O
