Books, RL, and FFXI

thistlechaserBooks: I just got my new copy of Ratha and Thistle-Chaser to replace my MIA one, and oh my god, is the cover art so sexy! Much much much better in person than on Amazon. I'm amazingly tempted to buy the other books so I can get the complete set of covers, the only thing that's stopping me is the quality of the paper inside. Thinner than you'd usually expect in a book and poorly printed (like the "a" being filled in with ink in the middle). But man, such a sexy cover.
RL: When I was a kid, TVs had no remote controls, so you'd think that the battery being dead in mine and me having no new batteries wouldn't be such a big deal, but it's annoying the heck out of me! I can't hit mute as needed! Can't turn the volume up and down! Grrr! Oddly, it's almost worth keeping the TV turned off just because keeping the volume at one level all the time is too annoying. (As a kid, I always laughed at my mother when she said stations made commercials louder than the show, but they do! Gah!)
FFXI: It would have been a productive day if it hadn't been spread over two days. Starting yesterday and ending today:
* Did the Halloween event and got the new item I needed. Last year it took six days, 8-10 hours a day to get the item, this year it took me only two hours. Color me happy.

Oh, but the pain to get that! It was the three minigames one. Went 1/1 on the first one. "This isn't so bad!" I thought. Went 1/2 on the second one. "Annoying, but whatever. Just one left!" Went 1/8 on the fricking running one. >< That adds up to twelve hours spent on that damned quest. That's one thing that bugs me about FFXI, it can so easily require so much time like that.
Thank god the running minigame seems to be nerfed after attempt #7, otherwise I'd still be doing it now. Even on attempt #7 I wasn't even close to winning, I felt like I'd never get it. Then #8 was a totally different game, they ran slower and more "reasonable". (Static folks: don't panic. I doubt any of you will have as hard of a time as me. I think the issue is that I'm a non-gamer, so my fingers aren't trained for stuff like that.)
On the plus side, the rank up quest for SM was the most homoerotic thing I've ever seen on the game? (And that includes the Wolfgang/Monberaux CSs!) Nice crotchshot there, Abquhbah...
In other news, General Ragamuffin does not like it when adventurers attack him:
We were charmed, attacked him, he Holy'ed us. Most people died, I lived with 100-something HP.
And lastly, more flying, floating, flipping kitties! One doing /wave! And two LS DRGs making theirs do loops at the same time. So very amusing!

The time I won? DRK in full armor/weapon. I guess that shows that BRDs aren't scary, especially when naked!
