I should have named it 'America'...
Jan. 31st, 2003 08:27 amHabari, my NationState, is doing very, very well. 40 million people, and our economy is "very strong". However, based on a decision I made yesterday or the day before, we're now preparing for war. What in the world will that do to our economy?
Today's issue is over allowing dogs to be eaten or not. Our national animal is the dog; I wonder if they use 'Allowing (national animal) to be eaten' as the issue point, or if it's always dog and so it's just chance that it's also my national animal...
Options:
1) "We have to do something about them anyway, so why not market them as tasty snacks? We could have dog kebabs, dog pies, dog-on-a-sticks--the possibilities are endless! Let's not pass up this golden opportunity to provide a feast, if you will, for our economy."
2) "I agree that something needs to be done about dog over-population," says random passer-by Colin Washington, "but eating them? That's kind of gross. Let's just shoot the ones we have to and shovel their bodies into ditches like normal."
3) "I am shocked and appalled!" declared SPCA President Jennifer Fellow. "If anyone needs to be culled, it's us humans. The dogs were here first, remember? We need to take this as a sign to get our industry--agriculture in particular--to back off. The dog is part of what makes Habari a great nation!"
Now, if this was an independent issue, I'd pick #3 hands down. But recall the economy issue? *Could* #1 really help? #2 just makes me sick. The other thing to keep in mind: I've played this from the beginning as Habari is ruled by bikers. The problem is, seems like more often than not what they'd do isn't what I'd do... So #3 has to be out. #2 seems like the most likely option a generic/typical/stereotypical biker would choose... But would a forward thinking one maybe try #1? But it is our national animal, so eating it should really be wrong...
So I guess it's #2? I love this game, not just because it's fun to see the results of your actions, but it really makes you think and wonder (especially with the extra twist I added to mine).

Date: 2003-01-31 03:58 pm (UTC)Vote #1! Hey, it makes sense to me. Economy, overpopulation, easy way to solve both problems. Besides... it's the national animal, right? Now you've got even more backing for it to be so! It's providing for the country! It's an honor thing! ... I think.
Ignore me. This was extremely random...

Date: 2003-01-31 05:35 pm (UTC)I'm no animal rights activist, but South Korea ain't earning much with a dog meat trade. It's only applicable to that country itself (no other country eats dog, that I know of, anyway), and it's extremely hard to promote as a tourist attraction (who the hell wants to eat a dog?).
Economy? More like indulgence.
