But first, one year ago today... Apparently Hot and Cold turned one year old today! How wacky is that? It feels like a whole lot older than that, but I have a screenshot from 12-18-2006 of me being all clueless about how to do it -- I successfully dug up that chest and got all of one item! I had forgotten that it used to be just one single thing in the chests, too. It's so much nicer now.

So anyway, girls! The ugliest crafting mule on the server got her apron! I like her model, but her shades make her look so awful. :/ Oh well, now she can make reraise items for LS people! And once I get ~40K more GP, she'll have the keyitem to make them from scratch, then maybe I'll make some to sell.

Bored of Jugner, I chased Campaign around the world for a while today. (Then I saw how annoying and how much smaller reward you get while chasing, so went back there...) I ended up in Pashhow for an attack, and saw the gaggle of Dancer NPCs. How totally and amazingly silly is it to have these women running around on the battlefield? Yes, dear, you're fighting giant monsters who want to kill you, so why ever would you want to wear more than a bit of lace and frill? Armor? Ha! Metal to stop those big sharp weapons of theirs? Who needs it! You can stop them with the flower in your hair!

I mean seriously, their torsos are mostly bare! Not even the bit of frilly lace over them! You know, torsos, where your important organs are? Sheesh. The only reason I don't stab every Dancer I see is because with them around Bard is no longer the silliest job in the game.

If you're not going to wear armor, get off my battlefield! No bare skin! And no flailing around while fighting, either! *grumpy old man*

The funny part is that the Dancer class was actually playable in... 2 other FF games I can think of off the top of my head, Final Fantasy Tactics and I'm pretty sure they were in Final Fantasy 5 too. I don't recall if they were any good or not.

If you really want to stretch a bit, Mog the Moogle in FF6 had a Dance command as well, but his had a few nearly gamebreakingly powerful possible random effects depending on where you were.

I got a lot of mileage out of my dancer in Tactics. With Nameless Dance, all she'd have to do is sit in the corner out of reach while all the enemies are hit with random status conditions every turn. Then you can gather around that sleeping, slowed, silenced, blind, confused frog and level up your thieves with impunity.

I think all/most of our jobs come from the previous FFs. Some of them got renamed (Corsair is Gambler made PC) or adjusted to fit this game (morphers became blue mages, sort of). :)

Actually, blue mages became blue mages. Morphers were really something else entirely.

Oh, did pre-FFXI Blue Mages learn monster moves, too? *unwise in the way of non-FFXI FFs*

And here I thought you'd be all happy with girls showing lots of skin. ^_~

But yeah. Female character armor has always annoyed me. Squenix is apparently sure that if you're female, you will *never* be stabbed in the upper leg, so there's no need for armor there! And then there's the infamous DRG AF !pants. I'm just happy that my current (and maybe permanent endgame) armor covers my entire legs. ;p

Not to mention harnesses and subligar for *both* genders. (It's possibly sillier for females, though. Fight monsters! Show off your sports bra!)

Also, on a totally unrelated note, do you read Two Lumps? Because I can totally see IC-Thistle saying something like this.

I also like how they're called "Field Musician Guards."

Beastmen: "AHA! Victory is ours! Wait...oh SHIT! Musicians! Run away! Run awaaaay!"
Musicians: "Wow, that was easy. Somebody must have brought bagpipes or something."
