What's next? (FFXI)

RDM is @500 to 74 and should be 75 by the weekend. kamalloy teasingly asked me what I would do next; as RDM merits won't take long, that's a darned good question.

I broke down the jobs list to try to find something I could work on after RDM. Least liked are lowest, not counting the ones that are done:

Meh: Beastmaster, Paladin

Don't hate but can't be bothered to level: Blue Mage, Dragoon, Monk, Ninja, Ranger, Samurai, Summoner, Thief, Warrior, White Mage

Zero interst in: Black Mage

Won't ever touch: Dancer, Puppetmaster, Scholar

(Done/can't do: Bard, Corsair, Dark Knight, Red Mage)

The most level-through-Campaign friendly on the list are probably WHM and PLD, maybe BLU (and probably PUP, but never). I don't want to ever deal with coffer/keys for AF again, which is another nudge towards BLU (though I could also wait until 75 to do AF, though PLD (and WHM?) AF is sort of useful).

Since I did RDM 64-75 through Campaign, it might be an interesting challenge to try to take something lower than 64 to 75 through Campaign only. PLD would be the likely choice for that (it's 20-something now, I think), but the problem is that leveling a job like PLD through Campaign-only would be silly. Well okay, leveling almost any non-DD job through only Campaign is kind of silly. skillz, can i has sum? (Darned lolcats, "can I has" doesn't even ping as wrong in my head anymore.)

I thought maybe 500K AN could be a goal, but I'm at 463K now and I'll hit 500K sometime in the middle of RDM merits, so that's out the window.

I'll sit and watch my moogle spin before I deal with random parties, so leveling something the traditional way isn't an option. Meh soloing though, it's slow and I'd tend to die too much.

So, friends and neighbors, what do I work on next? Every job I can work on is level 38 or below, so on that they're all about even. Maybe DNC would be the most Campaign-friendly one, but I can't put into words how much I hate seeing everyone flailing around as /DNC -- I don't know if I could stand doing it myself. And I will never, ever, ever, ever wear DNC AF. Ever.

What's your beef against SCH? (just curious)

Lastly: PLD looks like it'd be decent. I've wanted to level it for a while, but that partly because I like to play both sides of the good/evil coin on occasion :)

Easy! RDM can use pointy things and en-spells! More damage! And I'm so in love with RDM tanking! WHM just cures people. Oh no! If you get me mad I might... um... Dia you!

That being said, WHM is kinda high on my 'level next' list.

Samurai, of course, is my vote. I'm a SAM main.

Of course, then Thistle and I will have 3 of the same jobs (BRD, SAM, DRK) to 75 and there will have to be a Highlander-style fight to the death. THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE!

Yeah, MNK would be kind of cool, only problem is it's 7 or 8, so I'd have to do a lot of catchup work to get it into range of Campaign.

SAM I need to still get to subjob levels (it's 28 or 29 now), I was thinking of SAM/WHM to slowly bring it to 37 through Campaign...

/DNC it really is useful in Campaign, though I acknowledge the utter absurdity of seeing people in full plate armor jumping up in the air to dance. It may be worth taking to 37 just for the sake of sub completeness.

Given the coffer key hatred, BLU would be a good choice. Personally, I've avoided it like the plague due to the pain in the ass of learning all the damn spells and having to choose which spells of those you want to actually use. I'd rather hunt down some coffer keys, and it's not as if they're than hard to get.

And yes, if you do WHM or PLD, you're going to want the AF since (some of) it actually is useful.

I don't really find it odd that you are interested in WHM given that you've leveled 3 other support jobs. WHM is the ultimate support job, MP use or not.

It would, however, be an interesting change for you to go with a pure DD job that cannot use magic like SAM or MNK.

Yeah. It's the second most useful to /WHM (since it has no reraise), it's just the idea of it is so darned silly!

Adventurer #1: "Oh no! Monsters are coming! They want to kill us! Stab us with their weapons! Rip us apart with their teeth and claws! What should we do?!"
Adventure #2, "We shall dance!"

I understand it's a fantasy world, I'm not looking for a copy of the real world, but dancing on the battlefield is just more than I can accept.

Yeah. I flail about not wanting to do support on a regular basis, but I level (and tend to enjoy) those jobs. WHM has semi-moved to the top of my list...

I may be mixing you up with someone else, but weren't you playing RNG a while ago and having a fair amount of fun with it? If not, just ignore this comment. ;p

Also, yeah. I really wish Campaign battles worked for lower jobs. I've been dragging my feet on taking MNK from 27 to 30 because waiting to get a DD spot in a random Jungle party is painful. I need to go solo or something.

I think it was probably not me? I didn't hate soloing RNG on worms, but I didn't overly like it either.

My SAM is 28 or so, but I'm thinking it might work in Campaign. Go (SAM or MNK)/WHM and spam bar spells, protect NPCs, cure, avoid mobs... it'd be slow, but still better than random partying.

Actually, just skip those pieces of AF. Hands are beaten by Hume RSE, body is totally useless, and legs are overrated.
