I've not written about FFXI in ages, and I have RL stuff I'll one day post about but will continue to avoid for the moment, so what's that leave? All this 'LJ is evil' stuff!

As many folks know, LJ tried to secretly remove the option to make plain old basic accounts; your options now are either a paid account or a "basic plus" (account with ads). But there's more going on than that: LJ is "editing" the list of most popular LJ interests.

"Jesus"? Okay!
"God"? Alright!

Sex, porn, hardcore, yaoi, bondage, bisexuality? OMG no! We'll hear none of those words, thank you very much! None of our users have an interest in any of those bad, bad things!

Oddly also edited out of interests: Guys, girls, boys, depression, fanfiction (WTF?), pain, and... faeries!

I really don't get it. Is this more of the typical 'sticking your head in the sand' type thing? If we don't see the word 'sex' we won't have any? (Rocking argument for keeping sex ed out of schools, too!)

Very strange...

I've developed a sudden interest for depressed bondage faerie fan fiction.

Ha ha! How about bisexual faery girl/depressed boy hardcore fanfics?

And just what the hell is wrong with having an interest in fanfiction?

It is full of gay people, of course! O noes, what are we going to do?!

You forgot the pedophiles. All the underaged fictional characters, ya know.

Yes, thus not only should 'boy' and 'girl' be banned, but 'children' and 'kids' as well!

Heck, maybe we should just submit each and every one of our posts for approval before they can be posted, so that we're sure we're not using words they don't approve of! Ha ha. :P

Luckily we all know that I am not gay! *smooches you~!*

There are sometimes bisexual/depressed people looking for pain through bondage in fanfic? This is good for a laugh if nothing else!

Gay men = faeries, I guess? Who knows with homophobic(?) people!

If they're homophobic, why ban 'bisexuality' but not 'gay'? So very odd...

I have this sudden urge to draw my FFVII boys in bondage gear with fairy wings. Sexy yaoi bondage fairies! Maybe add in Vincent for the "depression" part and one of the girls too, for good measure.

I started a backup journal on IJ just in case...I'm ani_mama there too.

*rolls* You could cover all the banned words in one picture! :D

And yeah, I saw your post about IJ. While I don't like IJ at all, it's probably a good idea to back stuff up there. With LJ's anti-'fanfiction' ways, perhaps they'll go after more fanish stuff next. :/

I also don't want to lose track of my friends who migrate over to IJ...one of my favorite artists got banned from LJ last time and she has an IJ account now.

Yeah, I know the feeling. If I were still into the HP fandom, I'd have exactly that issue. (A bunch of people got banned, and more moved to IJ and left LJ forever.)

There are so many different blog services out there, I wish there was a way to "friend" across servers. I have a bunch of bookmarks for blogs I follow on blogspot.com, but bookmarks aren't as handy as having the newest posts show up on one page.

Heck, I'd probably pay for a service about that, especially if it came with something that would publish your posts to all sites, too (assuming you had an account there).

I'd pay for a service like that too! Somebody's bound to come up with it sooner or later.

Huh. And as usual, Google wins.

http://www.google.com/reader

Does just what I said I wanted!

Edit: Strike that. The source site still needs to set up a feed, which if it has you can make it into a comm on LJ and see it on your friends list there. Oh well.

Yeah, I saw that post at fandom_wank a few days ago. It's...meh. I mean, I get that it's a bad thing, but when I'm just barely at LJ because of my friends, I don't think I can be moved to care much. Either things will self-destruct and LJ goes the way of the dodo or things get better and I'll care again. Who knows?

I have to be contrary on just one point just because I can! ;D <3 I don't think you're being fair with the whole comparison/complaint of using jesus, since they didn't ban buddha, muhammad, or anyone else religious like that (banning gay and leaving straight would be a much more accurate comparison :3), but I do thoroughly completely and utterly agree that banning interests is stupid.

Sexual themes (bondage/porn/hardcore) I can kind of maybe wrap my brain around the logic of if they're trying to 'clean up' the site for younger users or something, but... boys/girls and fanfiction? Blatantly banning pretty much anything that relates to homosexuality? Come -on-. >_< I'm straight and not a huge fan of that lifestyle IRL and even I think that's crossing the line. Seriously not happy with these idiots, but LJ alternatives... don't have my friends there. ._. Meh.

The answer to that of course is for us ALL to find a substitute that is not so assinine and move en masse. :)

From: [identity profile] naikitty.livejournal.com
The likelyhood of that happening? Pretty low. ;3 I wouldn't be against it, though, LJ is seriously pissing me off by being so narrow.

And when a Christian calls you narrow, there's something seriously wrong! ;D

Another issue is that I'm paid at LJ for life. (Silly me bought a permanent account long before all this happened.) :/ That wouldn't keep me here if they broke the last straw, but for now? Yeah...

I don't think you're being fair with the whole comparison/complaint of using jesus, since they didn't ban buddha, muhammad, or anyone else religious...

The whole thing makes no sense. If they had some sort of an agenda, why would they ban 'bisexual' but not 'gay'? It's either very sloppy filtering or it just makes no sense...

Sexual themes (bondage/porn/hardcore) I can kind of maybe wrap my brain around the logic of if they're trying to 'clean up' the site for younger users or something

Disagreed. If they wanted to do that, they should remove all interests, or call the page "Edited top 100 interests on LJ" or something. It's the dishonesty that bothers me. And, on another point, what place does LJ have to "clean up" the site in such an underhanded way? It's their site, but if they want no one to write about sex, it should be in the TOS.

Blatantly banning pretty much anything that relates to homosexuality? Come -on-. >_< I'm straight and not a huge fan of that lifestyle IRL and even I think that's crossing the line.

It's just so odd. Why bondage and not other kinks? Why bisexual and not gay/lesbian? It feels like they're banning based on that, but they didn't do a good job of it...

Seriously not happy with these idiots, but LJ alternatives... don't have my friends there. ._. Meh.

Unfortunately half my friends have gone to five or six other blog sites. There's no way to keep up with people when they spread to the four winds like that...
