Thanks to a link to a site that helps you locate TV shows online from [livejournal.com profile] elo_sf, I found a link to the first two seasons of Dexter online! It looks like they're all full eps!

How in the world are they getting away with that? Well, watch them fast before the site is shut down!

And OMG, the opening to the second ep of the first season? The filmmakers of that series are amazing, masters. How in the world did they make cooking breakfast look so stomach-turning disgusting? I kept thinking "Why are they showing clips of cutting dead bodies mixed in with making break-- no, wait, that's just ham..." and things like that.

Eee! :D

I was curious about how they're getting away with this as well, so I read the FAQ and found an interesting tidbit.

From the FAQ: SideReel indexes links to video. We do not host the actual videos. Videos are hosted by different sites, which SideReel does not control. If you are within the U.S., you should be able to watch videos from sites like ABC, NBC, CBS, Hulu and others.

It seems as if they're using the same reasoning as torrent sites and figure that since they're not hosting it, they can't be nailed for copyright infringement. Eh, I guess whatever works for them.

Still, you'd think that Showtime or whoever would go after those third party sites... Oh well! As long as they keep working, I'll keep watching!

But those sites won't be around forever, so lots of people will still buy the DVDs so they can re-watch a good series like Dexter whenever they want, myself included. I watched both seasons for free* on TMN On Demand, and still S1 on DVD. Which I promptly lent out to family that I won't see for another year, so I'll be buying it again.

Showtime knows that they have a winner. They made their first bundle of money off of advertising when the eps were first released, now the only money they'll be making off of the first two seasons come from DVD sales. Online here-today-gone-tomorrow sites like that are nothing more than free advertising from Showtime's perspective. They won't spend money to go after someone who is in effect providing them with a service.

*I pay a monthly fee for TMN, but TMN has lots of content. I can't see Showtime's cut of that being more than a few cents.

Dexter is both highly disturbing and yet fascinating to watch. We watched the first episode last night and I think we'll be watching more.

It took -forever- but I downloaded season2 in high quality 720p from a torrent. I was even more impressed and grossed out by the opening with the extremely greater detail!

Ha ha, gah, I bet! I fast forward through the opening now, otherwise things like OJ will be ruined for me. :P

I hadn't believed people when they told me it actually gets better after the first ep, but oh how it does! I just finished ep 8 (season 1 still) and it's so god damned good! #6 (I think it was 6) was the best ep ever, but all of them are so good!

I'm glad to hear you two liked it. :D

Ep #10 is missing from that site (#10 is linked to #9), but I found it here: http://www.estrenox.com/category/series/dexter/series-dexter-t1

Sound and quality aren't that great, and there are Spanish subtitles, but better than missing it!

Oh! Thank you! We've only watched the first three episodes so far. I'll hang onto that link :)

Welcome! The last few eps of season 1 are all the Spanish subbed ones, but season 2 goes back to nice and clear quality/sound and no distracting subtitles.
