California ban on same-sex marriage struck down by the California Supreme Court!

As I've always said: if you don't like same-sex marriage, don't marry someone of the same gender!

That's a great ruling! The last bit by the defense seemed a little narrow minded to me:

"The government should promote and encourage strong families," said Glen Lavy of the Alliance Defense Fund. "The voters realize that defining marriage as one man and one woman is important because the government should not, by design, deny a child both a mother and father."

The implication being:
1) Same sex marriage is intrinsically not a strong family
2) That it is abhorrent to deny a child a mother and father, but it is perfectly fine to deny a child two of either.

I'm very much of the opinion that people should marry whomever they love and want to be with. kelen was mad enough to marry me, and you know what, if we were the same gender I'm pretty sure we'd still be together.

Never really understood what the big deal about this same sex marriage was...as long as they leave me out of it I don't care what goes on behind closed doors.

I personally don't think a court should be able to overturn a legitimate decision, by the people. There were enough people in the state of California to bring the ban to vote. There were enough people who considered it important enough to vote in favor of the ban. Is it really a victory when the will of the people is suppressed in favor of the desires of the few?

So if the majority of people were against mix-race marriages, would that be okay? At one point in time, the majority of people thought the world was flat. At one point in time, people didn't believe in evolution, thought the bumps on peoples' heads meant something, thought black people were (fill in the blank), etc. There are times when the majority is wrong, and at times like that it's good to have more level-headed, further-seeing people step in. (I'd use Bush as an example of the majority being wrong, except he did not win the majority vote, yet became president anyway. Works both ways...)
