A non-WTF picture! And FFXI.
Jun. 11th, 2008 01:05 pmHow about a nice picture to make up for all the scary ones last week? This one is safe and won't shock anyone! Honest! Such a great idea! This made me happier than it should have. :D :D
PS: I'm drinking a Diet Coke, my first one in months. It's sooooooo good. I keep saying 'one more sip, then I'll throw it out! I shouldn't be having this!' but it's cold and bubbly! Too bad the taste is so blechy (hi2u chemical taste), not the least bit yummy at all.

I thought about Nyzul Isle assault more after I logged off. I want to like it, I really really do. It's nice and fast (half-hour per run, tops!), so it's not bogged down like Dynamis. The 'kill everything' floors were sort of fun. However, my biggest problems are:
1) I hate playing BRD. They want me on BRD.
2) Death is not going to be uncommon. Dying is my second least favorite thing in the whole game. Some people accept dying, some people seem to court death, but to me dying = failing.
3) If I have to play BRD, I'd like to do it right. Nyzul makes it impossible, unless I'm missing something. (To me, "right" means keeping two songs on people as close to 100% as possible. Most melees spent most of the night with one song, and the BLU generally had only one Ballad.)
I wish I could go as a DD. Even though the event would still involve my #1 least favorite thing in the game (sneaking/invisibling/dodging/not getting aggro), I could handle it in small doses.
On, and on playing BRD right, I always tell people my BRD armor sucks (since I totally feel it does), so I was amazed to see some of the crap some BRDs wear. Two BRD 75s at Dynamis were wearing all/most of their AF, one of those two wore half AF/half RSE (the level 30 stuff). One Taru BRD wore a crapton of attack/STR stuff, totally useless to anything other than soloing/campaigning. I've put next to no effort into my BRD stuff, and yet still I was the second or best dressed one there. Very very very sad.

Date: 2008-06-11 09:43 pm (UTC)however, that doesn't stop people from doing it.
And I'm in no way advocating it. Guess you're just gonna find alot of people who will halfass their way through something given the opportunity.
I just as much blame those who perpetuate that mentality by allowing it just as much as I do the people who do it because they're allowed to. Chicken and the egg I suppose.

Date: 2008-06-11 10:56 pm (UTC)In my group we split up on kill all floors, xmage meleex2, brd meleex2, but whether we are split up or together BRD is an excellent scouter/puller so I am never in the same group as the THF, the other puller. Many times the main healer won't(or at least shouldn't) need ballads on large lower floors so you can play melee songs and then be away from the group. Also most of the time keeping songs on 100% won't help as much as having a fresh mob ready for your DDs at all times, or keeping the whole group from running down a dead end. Turn on fillmode 1 and turn up your drawdistance if it's low. With this it is much easier to find your way around, and you can save your group a lot of time by finding enemy leaders, lamps, and going back to the rune while they are finishing the target mob.

Date: 2008-06-12 01:02 am (UTC)The situations that made this more clear to me is Dynamis. In dynamis, you see the human instinct play it's hand at best (both trying not to die, and then blaming someone else for ones own actions!). Sometimes you just have to die to keep things going smoothly, for example if I pull a train of mobs, or if somone gets aggro, they need to scoot the hell away and let the rest of the people keep on truckin' - or if I need to call a wipe, die asap where I tell you to + accept whatever raise you get.
I too haven't partied in forever, even on my own timezone there's LS parties which I just don't join because it's so bleh.
Also in regards to bard perfection, perfection sometimes means not confining yourself to a certain situation ;) People don't need 2 songs forever ! You have more potential than many of the members in Nyzul. Anyway I don't see why they don't want your corsair, I've done nyzul runs where we had a COR instead of brd, but for boss floors a bard is delicious.
Re: omgoz
Date: 2008-06-12 08:06 pm (UTC)It is something I'd like to get over, but seeing how I've had this mindset for four or so years now, I'm not too certain it'll change. It would make my RL easier if it would though, so I hope so! (Don't need stress from a game, thank you very much.)
or if I need to call a wipe, die asap where I tell you to + accept whatever raise you get.
That'd be a (fun) challenge. Even when it looks like a wipe will happen in Dynamis, I still hold hope that somehow I'll escape it. And amazingly, I have had good luck succeeding in that. More than 50% of the time everyone dies, I'm still standing*. (That's without running far off, too -- don't want to make it hard to find me to raise.) It'd be really fun/interesting to be told to die...
(* I think it comes from the way COR is played. Rolls last lots longer than songs, so unless I shoot or do some other action, I could very well be on no hate lists at the time everyone's falling over dead. I'm almost always /RNG or /NIN there, so I can't heal or whatever. I always joke that it's a Corsair's Luck that lets me survive these things, which makes everyone beat me. :P )

Exactly. Even when I need XP, I really, really hate doing it. XPing is about the most redundant thing in the game (and that's from someone who regularly spends 12+ hours a day crafting ammo and stuff to sell), and add into the mix that you have to deal with the average lol playerbase? No thanks.

Hmm, you have a point there about the songs. It's kind of funny, but I always boggle whenever melees want something other than the "usual" songs. I just kind of sit there and blink at the screen and go 'Are you /sure/?'. Heh.
And I suspect the leader might not know too much about COR. It's amazing how many people don't. Two weeks ago a BRD walked up to me and asked me if it was common for a COR to use a gun. o.O
