Who wants my SS#! (RL, FFXI)

RL is annoying. I got a snailmail letter today from Disney. Usually that'd be a cool thing, right? In this case, it was not. I own Disney stock, and of course their company keeps all sorts of info on me. They store that info on data tapes. They hired some company to move boxes of those tapes. The company lost the boxes. >< My SS#, full name, address, banking info, mother's maiden name, all that crap is floating out there in the world somewhere.

The letter was amusing. After saying that the boxes were lost, it says "we have no indication of misuse of your information". Um, hello? You lost the boxes back in February, you do not know where they are, how do you know if there's any misuse going on? Let alone, it took you four months to contact me??

Bah. They offered everyone involved in this two years in some "credit monitoring" service. After checking out that this whole thing is legit, I signed up. (At first I was worried this might be some kind of scam, since the sign up process asked me all sorts of info, but there are news stories about the loss out there, so it seems real.)

But seriously, this is four months late! I really hope no one has gotten hold of my info in that time. :(

FFXI: We tried our first tier of ZNMs, but it didn't go overly well. We made a couple attempts at Vulpangue (not great screenshot, sorry), but wiped. Our tactic got better at the end, but still failed. (We ran out of time, never got to try Chamros the Colibri.)

The day still counts as a success though! I bought nothing for my MH! Ha ha, take that AH!

I'm getting closer to being able to make the ToAU 44 fight happen. I need just one more heavy DD (assuming we can do this without a BLM, otherwise the last slot needs to be filled by one). I'm excited to give that a try again, and I'm dying to hear that fight music again. I swear I had it downloaded on both my work and home machine, but I can't find it on either...

Actually, I was gonna post some stuff on the boards about ToAU missions, so hang on a bit and I'll go do that. You might have to take on ToAU 42 on your own (or take lead on a group), though, because I'm pretty sure I'm not going to get through that soon enough for Thistle's group. ^^;

Hrm, never mind. It looks like the plan I was thinking of isn't going to work soon enough for you if you're planning on joining Thistle's group. I want to help folks, but I also don't want to hold them up while trying to get stuff together.

But I'll still post anyway, since enough people are talking about ToAU missions that it's probably a good time to restart planning.

Edit: Made a post in my Assault static's forum, since we'd been talking about it the other night and a lot of the people involved are in it. Can you post to that forum, or is it only limited to the people in the static? I think most forums have general posting access; people just tend not to check in there.

With the credit monitoring and using one of your free credit reports once every four months, I think you'll be okay. A lot of companies are really cracking down on things anyway. I applied for a credit card offer last week that I'd received in the mail, and when applying, used the address for our house, seeing how we're going to be living there in a few days. I got a letter today from the credit card company warning me that there had been possibly fraudulent activity using my name. On the one hand, annoying to have to call to clear this up (I hate calling). On the other hand...seems like they're trying to be careful of identity theft, which speaks pretty well for the company.

Just make sure to go to annualcreditreport.com! There are a bunch of sites out there using the word free or whatnot, the most sensible URLs, that aren't actually the free ones that we have the right to get.

As for Alexander, I don't think you actually need a BLM. I think there's one guy in my shell that needs it, but I think he might be on the fight before it, which would be bad for you. D= If I remember I'll ask him. ; ; I forgot to ask my LS when you asked me earlier about it.

By the way, did you see the newest FFXI CD (the piano one) is around to be BTed? I grabbed a copy last night (even though I have a purchased copy coming eventually). It's on BG, advanced, first page. The title had '$19.99 for a MH item' or something like that in it.

I think we were probably in the top 20 groups to win it (on midgar) cause we didn't win the first night but I think we were one of the first groups to actually fight it were we not? Cause I remember we were on our 3rd attempt by the time someone beat it and was running around whitegate showing off and they beat it on their first shot or something like that.

No, we won the BLU/Soulflayer fight the first night. It was me, you, and Ulti on the first attempt. After that utter defeat, we picked up 3 people right outside the entrance to the assault and won it that time.

It was Alexander we didn't beat the first night. =x

I was doing a pretty good job at keeping people caught up, but then 35 took longer than we expected and I started Project O-Hat and shelved things for a bit. But hey, many people have hats and more job levels and merits, so I think it shall work out. ^^
