Blah. I'm in one of my not-sleeping periods. I hope this isn't a long one. I'm really tired, but my brain is wide awake and running a thousand miles a minute. Please don't let this be a months-long no sleeping period. zzzzz
Anyway, some links! Something to offend everyone!
This comic is simple but keeps making me giggle. Likely to offend: Religious people.
Yeah... You go on with your unbiased self. Irony at its finest, from Fox News. Likely to offend: Fox news fans?
Okay, I guess that's not everyone. If you weren't offended, you can line up for a refund or wait for more links tomorrow.
Ha ha, I reread the comic to try to judge if it would really offend anyone, and I giggled again. It's very silly and I'm very tired. :D Edit: I keep rereading it trying to judge because I don't want to really offend anyone, and the last panel just keeps catching me and making me giggle more. Both bits of dialog in it. Heehee. "Oh no!"

Date: 2008-07-23 08:18 am (UTC)I don't have strong feelings about any of the news sources cited. About the only thing they have in common is that all of them are better than Fox News. Then again, I don't think that's saying very much.

Date: 2008-07-24 04:35 pm (UTC)information and comparing it between multiple news sources (including
Fox) is usually the best way to get a full picture, though~
Yep, very true.

Date: 2008-07-23 03:57 pm (UTC)So... if one network is biased to the right.. and a majority of the remainder are biased to the left... why does only Fox news get abused so much?

Date: 2008-07-23 06:15 pm (UTC)Not to say it isn't justified. Political bias aside, I can't tolerate the sheer quantity of bad reporting, particularly on technology (computers are magic boxes! with porn!), from all major media outlets.

Date: 2008-07-23 07:45 pm (UTC)That's pretty much exactly who I was referring to.. as a fan of FoxNews, I simply like having news stories presented to me in a way that jives with my particular viewpoints. I think that's kind of why the liberals/progressives don't really notice bias in the mainstream media. All of it is being presented in a manner that is preferential to their viewpoints.
You are definitely right about the bad reporting though. News in general today is just done so horribly with so little objectivity... Most nightly news shows really should be called nightly opinion shows now...

Date: 2008-07-23 08:52 pm (UTC)For instance, I prefer the Fox Sports web site over the ESPN one, because I feel that it is slightly better. However, in the absence of a comparative product, I would *never* say that the Fox Sports web site is good, or even above average. Because it's not. (The editing is poor, some bad writers, etc.)
I feel exactly the same way about the Fox network. I love House, M.D. and I still think 24 is pretty good. However, I don't think much of the network as a whole.
If you have a brand name that stands for "decidedly mediocre," you're going to attract a fair amount of ridicule. It may not be fair; that's just how it is.

That makes sense to me. When people say NPR is biased, I scratch my head and go 'Buh?'. Yet from what I hear from those on the other side, NPR is the most liberal of the news choices?

Date: 2008-07-23 04:34 pm (UTC)Wasn't sure you knew that there are hearings being held in Washington to re-evaluate the military's "don't ask don't tell" policy, today actually. Thought that would be something you would like to know that doesn't seem to be getting much media attn... from anyone, biased or nt ;)
