Bored, and even random images are failing me. (RL, FFXI)

When all else fails, when I need to kill a couple minutes or a couple hours, I love my random LJ image sites. Unfortunately, like so much on the Internet, spam is killing it. Some Russian porn sites have discovered the free advertising that comes with it and set up LJ after LJ and spam it with nothing but porn site advertisement pictures.

You'd think porn would be entertaining enough, but this not only is the most vanilla, boring stuff, it's the same boring stuff over and over (if I see one more dazed-looking 90 pound woman with a giant guy in her mouth, or one more ultra close up of held-open woman-bits...).

I'm all for porn, yay porn!, but how about something a little more exciting? A little different? Sheesh.

In FFXI land... nothing! For lack of anything else, I was going to make some ammo to sell (so very poor right now), but I'm out of the fletchings I need and none are up at the AH. So: Nothing.

I did get that vent thing working for our 44 attempt next week! It was so embarrassing to talk on it though. :P I was nervous so I kept talking too fast. (And I have no idea if I was too loud or anything, I couldn't hear what I sounded like.)

However! In addition to hearing what everyone sounds like :D the whole thing was worth it for one part: There's nothing like one guy saying to another "Come over here, I wanna buff you.". Heeheehee. Thanks for the great mental images, guys. :D

No clue what I'm going to do tomorrow... or Sunday... I keep getting the itch to level PLD, but leveling any job would mean I have to do the AF, and I refuse to deal with keys and coffers ever again. (Not to mention, PLD AF is useful. Not to mention, it has some of the very worst coffer locations. GC? EN? Castle Z-whatever? Blech!) Maybe I'll level BST instead. I know its AF is useful as well, but I'm BST 25 now and so it would take me about 84798175401301 years to get to AF levels.

You'd be surprised at how fast you can level BST. It's not just the absence of waiting for parties, but rather I tend to play for longer stretches on BST. I've given my 30 minute warning to parties and ended exping for the night because I was hungry, whereas on BST, I can pause any time I want and go smoke, eat, drink, and be merry and then jump right back into it.

Vent and FFXI, wow the times sure have changed. :)

I present to you now the amazing Vent normalization technique that we have sticked at the top of our forums in our Warcraft guild:

(Vent Normalization makes every bodies voice the exact same volume. In essence, you won't blow your ear's out or have difficulty hearing people.)

- Go to Setup

- Enable Direct Sound

- Select the SFX Button

- Select Compressor and click Add.

- Under Compressor Properties use the following settings

- Gain = Adjust for how loud you want people to be. (I use 15)

- Attack = 0.01

- Release = Around 500

- Threshold = Around -30

- Ratio = 100

- Pre delay = 4.0

Gain
How much volume you feed into the compressor. Not really relevant unless everyone is too quiet, then you can turn this up a little; turning it up too much will sound EXTREMELY *%*%ty.

Attack
How fast volume change will happen. example: setting this to 500 means that any-
thing coming in will only be dropped in volume after a half a second. for vent this should
be set as low as possible.

Release
how fast the compressor stops changing things. not really that relevant with vent, setting it around 500 is good for voice material.

Threshold
This sets the point where we actually start changing what's coming in. Whereas 0 is the absolute loudest you can have for an input, -60 is super quiet. Average users will probably come in somewhere around -25 to -15, with the occaisional few being really quiet, which is why I have this set so low.

Ratio
How much any sound below the set threshold gets compressed and/or modified in the volume department.
If you still want to hear SOME volume variation then set this lower (2-4)... the higher you set it the closer in volume everyone will be.

Pre delay
Mostly just deals with processing; with computer and digital processors they can look ahead a few milliseconds to see what needs to be dropped in volume or changed before it actually comes through the speakers. Highest is ideal.

Oh, and protip:
Once you click the setup button, vent does not broadcast anything you say even if you click the speak button.

Me: "Do this, this, this, go here etc." (exits setup)

Friend on Vent: "You stopped saying anything after you said click on setup"

Ya you don't have to worry about being too load or too soft since we can edit the volume that we hear you at using vent. I don't do it nearly as in depth as lokyst posted above me though. I just slide the Volume adjustment around until it sounds right to me. But then again I'm lazy.
