The good, the bad, and the ugly (FFXI)
Oct. 7th, 2008 09:02 pmGood: Alchemy 89. I think I need to work on some subs before he levels further. Blah. I kind of picked alchemy because I was sick of subs and thought I could get away with not doing them... (But maybe he'll be better at HQing bullets than Thistle does.)
The bad: Dynamis - Xarcabard. After seeing so many reports and screenshots of people getting 20+ drops, of treasure pools with multiple AF2s in it, man we had a sucky night. Five total drops, but three of them were in the first half hour, then the other two in the last half hour. Long long stretch with zero drops. And, unsurprisingly, none of them were COR. That's getting really old.
The Ugly: I'm doing guild turn-ins on three characters at the same time. c.c I decided that since Catsoup can make anima, that Chaser (gold) and Fishingbot (wood) might as well be able to make RR earrings and warp clubs, since I'll have no problem getting the anima to make them. Each key item costs 40K GP. I may just finally have gone insane.

You scare me sometimes...I could barely survive turning in enough GP to get my woodworking hands and I haven't even managed to go back and touch the craft yet (soooo broke)! Sheez! :P

Date: 2008-10-08 06:43 pm (UTC)However, the update increased the drop rate, it didn't say a minimum of relic pieces must drop each time. Have you heard of someone going 1/30 on an NM while someone else goes 1/1? It's just luck. So you got shafted in Xarc once in the past two months you've been doing Dynamis. Don't go around sounding like you've been getting the short end since 2004.
Sorry, as one of the officers in my shell I absolutely hate it when people whine about drops. We kill the mobs, we get the TH on, and now SE upped the drop-rates. Everything else is a roll of the dice.
Anyways, my first comment was mainly in response to your "it's getting old" comment. Like you said you've had run after run of 20+ pieces (never mind that city zones have higher droprates) and one run with 5. That's not old, it's just (very) crappy luck.

Date: 2008-10-08 11:24 am (UTC)I waited a good year to see a melee crown drop. Then I didn't wait two weeks and got the melee crown -1. Never actually expected to get that. XD
And eww at guild turn ins. D= I'm 38K on the path to my wood gloves, then I'm switching to leather guild to get tanning, then to bonecrafting guild to get the thing to make arrowheads, then back to wood. D=

Date: 2008-10-08 07:45 pm (UTC)Alchemy is very, very odd. I was seriously thinking about not getting my apron because of just those reasons. (Especially at as high of level as we are, perhaps it might have helped at lower level, but nothing that advanced support couldn't have gotten around.)
I do wish I could skill up just a bit further so I could finally use some of the pile of philosopher's stones I have built up.
If you ever want to sell them, poke me. ;)
But then...I hate taking a loss on synths (3k loss per icarus wing? unthinkable!) 1 more reason why Thistle is a better crafter than me.
I'd call it 'different' (or perhaps 'crazier'), not 'better'. I took gold to 95 on Chaser, which some people would consider makes me a good crafter. However, I spent millions upon millions of gil on a single level, let alone the whole run of leveling her, and that's money I'll never ever make back. Does that make me better? Or more stupid? Or maybe it's both. Maybe you have to be stupid to level as many crafts as I do. I don't know. :}
