The bad:

FFXI: Got the Halloween event done, at least as much as I'll be doing it. The new elements weren't too annoying, even though they took longer than I would have liked them to. Got the NQ and HQ cloaks. They're cool, but I'll likely never wear them. I should be wearing my aketon when not in armor, but mostly I wear my Tidal Talisman. Either way, no room for the event cloak.

I was missing the pitchfork (I thought I was just missing the HQ, but I didn't have the NQ in storage so I guess I dropped it). No one on my LS needed it, so I picked up a random through shout. Oh my god, I should have just shot myself in the head instead. I do not understand how people so stupid can function in life. This person could not follow directions. Short sentences. Small words. "Come to me." "Trade cookie to this NPC." "Do not zone." Those were way too complex for her. (And sadly, she was NA, her English AOL-speak was perfectly fine. "lol u said i trad 2 it 4 now?????? lol".) God help me. Hour and a half of attempting to lead her by the hand through the event, only to find a bug was going to keep me from ever getting the HQ. I gave up. I don't need the pitchforks that badly.

I got really lucky with trading treats to the wandering NPCs. Got my (whichever) staff, the 10/10 warp one, on the second trade!

Out of curiosity, what was this "bug" that is preventing you from getting the +1?

You have to get the HQ from a city you didn't get the NQ in. You can't get the NQ from a city you got a NQ in. Apparently I got a NQ in Sandy last year, dropped it, then got a NQ in Windy and dropped it (I don't recall doing this, but I can't get a new NQ in either of those two cities). So that means I'd have to get a NQ in Bastok, but since you can't get the HQ in the city you got the NQ in... that leaves no city for the HQ. :/

Ouch, that sucks. That'll teach you to throw things you can just give to the event storer NPC at least! *nod nod*

Yeah, but it takes months for new event items to be storeable. :/ I was leveling COR at the time, which is a real inventory-killer. A bunch of different cards (loose and cases), various types of ammo (loose and pouched), etc. :/

What does the cloak do? I tend to avoid the Halloween quests because it takes forever to get all the useless items just to get the one or two semi-useful ones.

The HQ one has a refresh effect! ...only at night and only when your level is a multiple of 13. For serious. (But they do look amazingly cool though!)
